October/1st Anniversary Trip Report! - Updated! 12/18/2010

:wave2:
I just found your trip report and am joining in.

We are staying at Pop for the first time this May. We stayed at POR last trip and loved it. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the resorts.

Great start. One of these days we are going to go over to POP and take a walk around the resort (we've been there once to drop someone off but never got out of the car).

I can see why the resort is so popular for families - I think adults and kids can both easily get exciting by certain aspects of the theming.

:welcome: I absolutely fell in love with POR while we were there. I really want to try to stay in as many resorts as I can, but I can see us revisiting this one.

I'm here finally! :goodvibes I'm loving your report - I can't wait for the next update! popcorn::

:welcome: Hey! I'm going to try and get another update in later today. I want to get as much done as possible in the next month, since I'm moving and have finals the week before Thanksgiving.

Daisy Duck, my how you've changed!

After we spoke to the person from the Disney Research team, we decided to kill some time by wandering around the resort and exploring the different themed areas.

I'm a huge Beatles fan, so I had to get a picture of this:

As we were walking along this side of the resort, we caught a glimpse through the trees of the abandoned "Legendary Years" section. For some reason I completely neglected to take any pictures of it, but it was kind of fun seeing something that I knew about because of the boards.

After we walked through the 50s and 60s sections, I was started to get pretty overheated. I'd packed a pair of capri's in my carry on bag, so we headed back towards the main building so I could change in the bathroom. As soon as I got back to Mr. Arb, I noticed I had a text message - our room was ready!

After a quick stop back to Everything POP to get two Vinylmation figures, we went to find our room. We had one of the easiest room numbers ever to remember - 2222. It was in the 50s section, in the building with the jukebox. We gathered our things and went back in that direction.

I also took the time to open up my Vinylmation boxes to see what I got. One I loved, and the other...not so much.

IMG_0294.jpg

I wasn't too discouraged about getting a Vinylmation that I didn't care for. I'd heard that recently you could go to the resorts and Downtown Disney and engage in some Vinylmation trading, so I was excited to have an opportunity to do so! I'll go into more detail about the trading later.

About 15 minutes after we got to the room, our luggage was delivered to us. I was pretty shocked at how short our wait was, and excited that I could start to get on sunscreen and get ready to visit the parks. Mr. Arb and I both got ready and hopped on a bus to go to Hollywood Studios.

The 3:00 parade was about to get started as we were walking in the park, so we quickly moved to the sidewalk and made our way towards Tower of Terror. I think the wait was around 40 minutes, so we decided to get a Fastpass and come back before we left the park.

Once we had our Fastpasses, we decided to go to The Magic of Disney Animation.

IMG_0300.jpg

I think I did an old version of this as a kid, but Mr. Arb had never gone, and it was something he specifically requested we try to do on our trip. After the short video with Mushu, we got in line for the Animation Academy. We were the last two people let into the room, and sat up in the front row with the drawing pad on our laps. Today we were drawing Daisy Duck. About halfway through the drawing, I decided to sneak a peek at Mr. Arb's artwork. Oh my. I was doing my best to hold my laughter inward and definitely failing.

What was so funny, you ask? Behold:

IMG_0302.jpg

Let's take a closer look at that, shall we?

:rotfl: I kept hoping that later on in the trip I could get a picture of Mr. Arb and Daisy, but it never worked out.

Here is my much less entertaining drawing:

Once we were finished, we decided to make our way over to Toy Story Midway Mania to see what the wait time was:

IMG_0307.jpg

110 minutes? I don't think so. I knew since we'd gotten to the park late there wouldn't be a chance of getting Fast Passes, so I figured I would just do it later in the week.

Before I go too much farther, I want to interject a quick note here for those of you who did not see my Pre-Trip Report. Going into this vacation there were two rides at Disney that I had never been on and was determined to make it to on this trip: Space Mountain and Toy Story Midway Mania. I really didn't care if I was unable to get anything else on my Must Do list done, I just really wanted to go on these rides.

We continued on to the Backlot Tour, which has always been a favorite of mine.

As our tram was riding around the area near Lights Motors Action! I noticed something very interesting that I had never seen before...

Next up: This Chapter is Open Seasonally

As you know from my TR, Mark and I did the Animation Studios for the first time this trip as well. We had Donald Duck. We'll put your Daisy and my Donald together and Mr. Arb's Daisy and my "Grumpy's" Donald together. I was :lmao::lmao::lmao: so loud that I almost broke the computer chair I am sitting on (which is very weak to begin with) when I saw Mr. Arb's photo of Daisy. Hey, at least he gave it a try. ;)

I am so hoping that you got to do TSM later in the trip.

And what an easy room number to remember. :thumbsup2

My had Daisy change is right. LOL. Your Daisy came out good. Can't wait to see what you did next and what you noticed.

I'm joining in on this fun trip! Loved your Daisy pic - your husbands'......well let's just say Daisy looks a little evil :lmao:

Whoa, two updates to comment on....

Let's see, Mr. Arb (the driver, mind you!) looks like the sleep-deprived one, which is scary.

Wow, that boy likes mustard.

How cool that you got to keep a trip journal. "You want to give me $25 for something I was going to do anyway? Um, okay."

I'm a huge Beatles fan too, Arb. :thumbsup2

Love Mr. Arb's Daisy, although you should probably get him to a therapist right away. If you asked Donald Duck, he'd probably say, "Yep, I've seen that side of her."

Your Daisy is a very nice rendering.

Good title for the next installment. I wonder what it means?

I cannot express just how much I was laughing when I saw his drawing. I half expected to log on here when we got home and see a thread about the two rude people who ruined someone's Animation Academy experience, haha.

Thanks! I typically have no artistic ability whatsoever, so I was really happy with how mine turned out!

You got some great pictures of Pop! :thumbsup2 It looks so bright and cheery!

 I love Mr. Arb's Daisy! Too funny! :lmao:

I think POP is one of those locations where it's hard to take a bad looking picture.

I think it was his interpretation of me as Daisy before I've had my coffee int he morning.

The only thing he likes more than mustard is wing sauce.

Woohoo Beatles! My earliest memories are in my parent's old house listening to the first record of the White Album. I didn't become a complete fanatic until I was 11 or 12 though.

Evil daisy :scared1: that is too funny!! TSM is one of those rides where it would pay off if we were rope drop people :rotfl: I do want to actually walk through the regular queue for that ride to see what it looks like, but not for 110 minutes!!

Aww, both of your Daisys are so cute! We've done the animation thing at Hollywood Studios, California Adventure, and Disney Quest, and we've drawn Goofy EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Yikes! That's a scary Daisy! Yours' was great though. My four year old LOVES that drawing class and requests DHS days just to do it again. Forget the rides. He wants to draw Pooh again! Silly kid..

Can't wait to see the next update!

Honestly, the queue was as much the reason I wanted to go on the ride as the ride itself.

DisneyQuest has an animation thing? We've never gone into it.

I'm here, count me in!

:lmao::rotfl2: That picture of Daisy Duck is priceless!!!!!

:welcome: It got a little bent up in my bag later on in the day, but I'm surprised Mr. Arb hasn't asked me when we're framing it yet.

Wow, I've never heard of anyone getting to draw Pooh there! That's pretty awesome. Though I'm afraid to see what Mr. Arb's rendition of any other character would look like...

Bahahahahaha - small update. We're hoping to move into a new place within the next month, and I was talking about getting rid of some of the posters and stuff that we have now since they don't really fit with the rest of our stuff. Then he said, "Can we get some frames and put our Daisy Duck pictures in them?" :lmao: He's completely serious too. :rotfl:

That is funny...but cute too. I'd tell him that yours gets a spot where it will be seen and is prominent. :)
