October 19, 2008 4 day Bahama - anyone else?

Indy and Elasta:

Looks like we have the makings of an intercouncil Scout pack. I have a Bear and Webelo II. We too are knee deep in popcorn.

I'm expecting my docs today and can't wait to start packing.

Hi All:goodvibes just checking in ... I think I went overboard:rotfl2: with my supplies??? tylenolpm, tums, immodium, drammamine, seabands, waterproof bandaids, sunlotion, aloe, tide stain stick, moleskin for blisters, chapstick and so on and so on:sick: elastagirl, I think I'll do the same and let the mickey ears be the costumes, the stuff we need for WDW seems different than the stuff for the cruise(more dress up stuff) packing is already a challenge:confused3 :rotfl: Wow! indystargazer! that is some day with the scouts, I really admire anyone who gives their time like that, the kids must love you!
I think the disney gift cards at WDW work well for the kids and they are rechargable if you want to add more $$
the Disney store here has alot of T-shirts on sale for $5 so I picked up a few for the kids for souveniers
another tip I read was for on the ship if you have an excursion order room service on the ship and bring it with you for snacks/lunch:thumbsup2
Happy Monday:dance3:

Maybe we should all trade some regional scouting patches as part of the fish extender exchange??

I'll read & post more later...Monday morning work beckons...must pay for trip before I can enjoy it, right?

I hadn't planned on doing the fish extender, but now I think I want to--at least for the boys. Is it too late to sign-up?

None here yet either. :sad1: Checked online & it was delivered to AAA this afternoon, but haven't heard from them so I assume they will just mail them out. Wish they would have called, since Tuesday is my day off & I could have picked them up.

Doing the doc dance here! :dance3: The UPS guy and I had a long chat about cruises when he dropped them off, LOL!

Although, I have to admit, they were a little disappointing. No glossy brochures or pictures to get us excited. I'll be going online to check in tonight or tomorrow.

I think that's a great idea! Count us in. DW has been looking at fish extenders on eBay...any recommendations?

BTW, last night was our doc dance!
:woohoo: :woohoo:  :woohoo: :woohoo:
I brought home a little bubbly, both the adult and kiddy varieties to celebrate! DW thinks I'm crazy...well, nothing new there. I have to agree with you guys though, the packet was a little underwhelming. Did anyone actually read that contract!?! Wow. I think they're not liable for anything unless they actually throw you overboard, and even then only if it was an accident!

I don't know about that, but I have a lot of fun with them! DW and I have decided the only thing that would make scouting better is if no parents were involved. ;)

Oh, as promised: parade pics!

Here is the traditional group shot. DS (8) is the one with the gigantic yellow foam Cub Scout sign! We had so many scouts in the parade we added a second truck just for WEBELOS!

Here is my baby in the parade, all decorated and crawling with Cubs! Is DT (Dear Truck) allowed as an abreviation?

Finally, here is the DS riding in the truck. He decided he wanted to show samples of the candy he was throwing to the crowd! :rotfl:

LOL about the contract...no kidding! Love the parade pics! I want a foam sign like that :thumbsup2 DH picked up a handful of Columbia Gorge patches when he went to the scout store yesterday. My Mom made our fish extender, I think any of them on ebay are fine, that's what I was going to do until my Mom offered her (awesome) sewing services. Ask my DH about too many parents and summer camp and you'll get an earful. WAY too many parents who were total know-it-alls and major camp buzz kills. One Dad was so awful and mean to his son in front of everyone I just wanted to cry.

great pics!!:thumbsup2

ds is showing the candy he's throwing to the crowd.

one for the crowd, one for me.
one for the crowd, two for me.

DT (dis truck):rotfl2:

I've seen that happen before, too, and I hate it. My dad actually told a guy if he wanted to crush his kid's spirit to do it on his own time but don't do it around us (his kids) cause he didn't want us learning that garbage. I've never been brave like that. Course my dad is 6'3" so I think that helps. :cutie:

How many scouts, cubs or otherwise in our group?

SCOUT TALLY:
Elasta-girl: 2
IndyStarGazer: 2
PrincessJasmine: 2
Disneyholic: 1

Seven so far. If anybody else has a scout participating in the fish extender exchange, please reply to this and add yourself to the list so we can get more scout patches to trade. And there have to be several electives the cub scouts can check off while on the cruise...I'll have to review those sections of the manuals before we go :thumbsup2

That's awesome that he said that - so true about crushing their spirit. I wish I were that brave! I have a friend who has a knack for wording things in such a way that she comes off as sounding helpful, not confrontational. I could use those skills, I just end up being shy. If I'm comfortable with somebody, I usually have no problem being blunt, though! Just ask my DH! :lmao:

You can get those at the Scout Shop, or try scoutshop.org. We had a bit of an issue at our first Pack meeting this year with high spirits and chatting -- the kids were noisy too. :) DW had bought the foam thing as a joke, but I used it at the parade to get their attention. It worked like a charm, until DS started using it to make giant bunny ears behind my head. :sad2:

I'm afraid that is much closer to the truth than you think...sigh.

Exactly the sort of thing I was talking about! Good for your dad, it's not an easy thing to do but sometimes necessary.

Take situations like that, add in all the communications issues, what we call the MCC (Milk and Cookie Crowd...there's a story behind it but basically it's the ones who call us as soon as a cloud appears in the sky to see if an event will be cancelled) and the helicopter moms (always hovering over their kids!) and you can see why I enjoy events where the parents aren't around! Having said that, I've made a lot of great adult friends through scouting so I shouldn't complain too much.

Thanks for starting the list, Elasta-Girl. It'll be fun to see all the other scouters on the cruise!

Which patches are we trading? Our council patch or is there another that I should be looking for at the scout shop?

PJ

It's totally optional - don't feel you have to! DH got our District patch to pass out, which is a small round one with a pretty picture of a bridge on the Columbia River Gorge. Anything will work!
