DH, DS and I are going on the 4 day Bahama Cruise leaving on October 19, 2008. Just checked the links and no link for this date. I'm sure we won't be the only people on this cruise, but right now it looks like we may be the only Dis'ers, unless the rest of you are still lurking out there.

DH and I are pairing this cruise with one night before at AKL and two nights after at BWV (our home resort). We're taking in the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot while we're there.

This will be our 5th DCL cruise.

We are driving down, leaving Friday night, to get down to the dock by Sunday morning. After the cruise (the 1st for all of us) we will be staying at BC or BCV for 3 nights and also going to the Wine & Food Festival for the 3rd time (1st time for DS).

We will be joining you all on the cruise. This will be our celebration for being married 20 years. This is our first cruise without the kids.

Now there are 3. Hope to hear from more before we go. It would be nice to meet and put faces to the sign in names.

I know Dis members have had little get togethers on previous cruises but we have never participated. It might be fun.

Hi,
I've read the boards forever, but haven't posted before. We just booked and are very excited!!! I've been on a Disney Cruise before but DH and DS(who will be 14 months) haven't. We were also looking in to staying at BWV for a couple of days after the cruise, but have to wait to book because SSR is our home resort. Didn't even realize that the Food and Wine Festival will be going on while we are there. DH will be happy to hear that.

Congratulations on your 1st post! Watch it....it's addictive once you start.

The F&W festival is a lot of fun. We eat our way around the World. One of the things we do is share the things we get, then if there is something in particular we like we go back and get more. This way we don't fill up too much before we get to try everything.

Hi everyone! We signed up for this cruise today. We are VERY excited. It's going to be Myself and my brother (13 at time of sail) and my sister (11 at time of sail) I just wanted to drop around and say hello.

And how old are you? Is it just the 3 of you going? DS is going to be 21.

I'm a little old to be a companion for your DS I'm afraid. LOL At 35 they would put me in Mickey jail! :rotfl2: However I might maybe be taking my 24 year old sister with us. Her schedule is just too crazy for her to commit right now. I'll keep ya posted!

You're actually only a year older than his sister.:lmao: They get along fine for the most part.

Hopefully there will be more people his age that he can hang with. He is concerned because he doesn't see that on the video. He sees kids in the Stack, where he won't be able to go and "old fogies" like Mom & Dad in the other "adult" areas.

Tell him not to worry too much. I saw a little heard of about seven boys that looked about that age the last time I was on the ship. I would rather have a little heard of 21 year old boys than the little heard of 17 year old girls that was also on the ship. Pairs Hilton has done nothing for that age group except show them how to be loud and obnoxious in public. Or as my DH like remarked to me "Everybody really should wear underwear on the Magic. This is Disney, you know." I almost spit Coke straight out of my mouth! The boys I saw were hanging around the adult pool. They participated in the silly little games in the afternoon and such. Mostly they were reading and Ipoding. And you never know, my sister might yet still come. Mentally she's about 21! LOL Plus, even I'll admit she's super cute.

Let me know if I missed someone.

For those taking DCL for the first time, or cruising for the first time, the Disney Wonder is going to be a fabulous experience. One hint: the best deal for your next cruise is to book while onboard. You can always change the dates of your chosen cruise, while still retaining the onboard ship credit that usually goes along with the bookings.

Disneyholic-- you said you're driving down. Have you thought about taking the Amtrak auto train one-way from Lorton, VA to the Orlando area? It would keep you out of the 95 south traffic for at least one-way. Also, I see that you've stayed at AKL concierge. We're going to try to see if we can get a reservation there for pre-cruise using our DVC points. I'd love to hear about your experience.

Epcot Food & Wine Festival: our experience last fall will definately influence how we go about it this fall. We decided to splurge and do the Party for the Senses one night. It was okay... but I don't know that it was worth the money it costs. However, we did enjoy the free wine seminars/tastings during the day over at the old Wonders of Life pavilion. (Don't know if they'll use this space again for 2008.) Also, Thursday (post cruise) would be the best day for the F&W festival.. the weekends (incl. Friday evening) get really crowded.

Cheers!

Epcot Food & Wine Festival:

We took the regular Amtrak train from Philly to Orlando riding coach in 2000. In 2002 we took the Auto-Train Deluxe Sleeper car both ways and in 2003 we took the Auto-Train Deluxe Sleeper car coming home. We enjoy the drive. We leave after work and drive till late into the night then get a hotel room and finish the drive the next morning. We will be leaving Friday after we all finish work for the week and will get down to Florida by Sunday morning with hotel stops along the way. I have been considering taking the Auto-Train home depending on our schedules and how the money holds out. The time we took it to come home I was able to schedule it 2 days before we left to come home and got a Deluxe Sleeper car for the price of coach because they had some available, but they would have had to add a coach car to the train to get us on in coach. It was cheaper for them to just put us in a sleeper. May not always luck out like that, but it was a chance we were willing to take.

AKL concierge was really nice. We had a King room on the 5th floor with a Savanah view. It wasn't on the concierge floor and was a little bit of a walk to the elevator (across the bridge over the lobby) to go up to the concierge lounge, but it was a beautiful unhindered view of the Savanah. We didn't mind the walk thru the hotel, though, because the hotel is soooooo beautiful. We also took the Sunset Safari. It was a lot of fun and very informative.

F&W - We are planning on Thursday, too and early Friday, just for the fact that it gets crazy at EPCOT late Friday and on the weekend. We found last year that the morning and early afternoon aren't too bad on Friday, so we just leave when it starts to get too busy.

Thanks for starting a roll-call.
Bev

Glad to see more Dis'ers on the cruise. We are definately looking forward to this one. We do have some guilt about not taking the kids on this one. Well you only have 1 20th wedding anniversary.

No guilt allowed! Getting away together helps keep a marriage strong, and that's what your kids really want. :goodvibes

Any my sister is coming! I can't decide whether to be excited or terrified. :rotfl: Because we've never been raised in the same house, we have more of an extended family dynamic rather than sisters. We basically see each other for major holidays. But she's coming and that's something.

So I would like to add DSis 24 Jacquie to my list, please.

Glad to hear that your sister has decided to come. My DS has been asking if there were any new posts. He'll be happy to hear that there will be at least 1 person over 21 close to his age onboard. I keep telling him that just because they haven't posted here doesn't mean they won't be on the ship. A lot of people who go on the cruises have never heard of the DIS.
Maybe we can remedy that while we are onboard. I have business size cards that I printed up with the DIS and 2 other unofficial sites that I give to customers and friends when they show an interest in Disney. I'll throw a few in my purse for the trip.:thumbsup2

I heard the statistic that usually around ten percent of the ship is Dis. Which is not a lot and yet is a lot depending on your point of view. ;) Your DS is going to love it. Any day on a Disney ship is a better day than any other day after all!

Lauren, your DSis Jacquie has been added.

Right now we're so focused on our upcoming Alaska cruise/trip (May 14-28) that I haven't had a chance to really work on this cruise in the fall. However, I do have our ressies for pre and post cruise at WDW-- and I will be making our dinner ressie for Jiko in a couple of weeks.
