October 17, 2009 Western

I called DCL about the fuel surcharge just two days ago. Here is the scoop that I got. If you booked during the last six months of 2008, a fuel surcharge was included in your total price. If you booked after or before that it was not. My trip was booked in October 2008, so a fuel surcharge WAS included. My options were A) to have the agent remove it, and if oil is over $70 per barrel on October 1st I will notified that I owe the surcharge ($112 for a party of two). Or B) leave the surcharge included, and if oil is below $70 per barrel I will receive the money back in the form of a shipboard credit. My room opted to remove the surcharge, and the two rooms I am traveling with decided to keep it in. Hope this helps answer some questions!

Here's our QOTD:

Do you have 'creative-type' hobbies in your family: Scrapbooking/Woodworking/sewing/handicrafts..? ..

Hi!
I recently started scrapbooking, I really like it, I just have to find time to do it!!! I am doing a book on my trip to Australia, maybe I can finish it before the cruise!!! Cause when I come back, I'll have the wedding AND the cruise to do!!

My soonDH (!!) studied photography, so I guess we make a good team, he takes pics, I scrapbook them! I also took a few classes of photography too, it makes a big difference after!

That's AWESOME AK :)!!

We had the fuel surcharge removed from one of our staterooms several months ago immediately upon learning that DCL was no longer adding the fuel surcharge. Our 2nd room, however, was booked on DVC points, so I can't make any changes to that ressie. Well, I actually could do so for a fee, but I decided that I'm going to wait it out and hope that fuel prices remain low. I'd rather take a gamble of getting a nice $168 shipboard credit than pay the $95 DVC fee to get a guaranteed $168 credit back... I'd only come out $73 ahead.

Got a response back from that travel agent and here is what she said...

"After speaking with several different cast members at Disney Cruise, the consensus was that you should be able to make the reservations for everybody on the same reservation at the 90 day mark. I guess the computer used to differentiate but now it is open for everybody in the same cabin."

Whew... Laura

That's great, Laura!!! :thumbsup2

In honor of AnKa's birthday today :) I have updated the spreadsheet and have reported to the Yahoo page.

Hi,
I have been reading the thread to catch up... only at page 18 of 68!!! So what is a fish extender (FE)???? And the gift exchange and all that?

AnKa - I could not find listing to a post on this, but I will try my best. FE is a term that started with DIS groups I believe, where you create a hanging bag or hanging gift holder and hang it outside of your Stateroom door on the fish clip that is there for CM to leave messages for you. Then how ever it is organized, gifts by DIS members that are participating will leave small items as surprises through out the cruise. I have never done it before and there are probably others on the list that know better than me.

You can do a google on DCL Fish Extenders or ebay search to see pictures of different FE that people make. You can also get instructions on how to make your own.

ideas for gifts that I have seen from other posts are something small that is from your hometown. Small Magnet for the stateroom door. Postcards, Pens, Candy, DISney Pin, etc

Right now we have a cut off of September 1 for signing up for FE. You can PM me or put a message on the yahoo groups. In a follow post I will give an update on who is participating in FE.

Laura

Update on the FE List. (Not much of a change)

Here are the DISer that have indicated they want to participate in FE exchange or mentioned they are create a FE in the group.
At this time the Cut Off for FE Signup will be September 1. (unless the group decides on a different date) This will give a month time for those participating to plan.

bourgie 3 travelers
doberlady (Debbie) 4 travelers
Jeanneg (Jeanne) 2 travelers
kerikson (Kim) 3 travelers
lucky1 (Laura) 3 travelers
missusem (Sue) 3 travelers
yazee1 (Monica) 5 travelers

7 DISer's with a total for 24 people.

If you are interested in participating send me a PM or post on the Yahoo group.

thanks for the answer. FE seems really cool! I don't have kids though, but I am the big kid anyway! I'll think about it!

Yeah, it was my bday today! I just turned 27! wouh! :cheer2:

I just went out for diner, was really good! It was an aboriginal bistro, so all food from aboriginal traditions...it was different, and the crème brûlée was AWESOME!!! All I kept talking about is the cruise!!! :rotfl:

I hope you guys had a good night! :)

So I had to look up aboriginal bistro as I had no idea of what it was and there was only one that popped up on Google. Sure it was the one you went too. Looks pretty interesting.

If you go to any of the Native American cafes here in the western USA. Blue Corn (Piki), Fry bread and Sheep (mutton) are often on the menu.

Sounds like a smart decision. With oil down below $60 again today, a lot of people could have some nice credits waiting for them.

From your signature, it looks like we'll be with you at BLT for the 2 nights before the cruise. We're very excited to stay there, but not as excited as we are about the cruise!

I just took a peek at the database and saw that an error has occured on my info. No biggie, just probably got switched by accident.

My traveling party and I are on late seating for dinner. We are not early seating. Thanks bunches!

I'll fix that Penny!!

99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer....Take one down, pass it around....

:rotfl: wonder if our friends in the UK and Canada had that drinking song.

Some Questions for our weekend :).

1. Will you be dressing up fancy for Formal Night?

2. Are you bringing your pirate gear for Pirate Night?

3. When will you be coming in to Cape Carneveral.. the morning of or the night before?

Some Questions for our weekend :).

1. Will you be dressing up fancy for Formal Night?
I will be dressed. :cool1:

2. Are you bringing your pirate gear for Pirate Night?
]

Very minimal stuff. DD7 will probably dress like a pirate princess. Not sure I want to go out for DH and myself, since don't want to spend the $. Maybe Just a eye patch pirate:

3. When will you be coming in to Cape Carneveral.. the morning of or the night before?

Current plan is to stay at the MCO hyatt the night before and then take the early bus to port in the morning. That could change based on flights. If we go to WDW before, we will probably then head to the port on Friday. My concern is I don't want to take a DCL bus from a Disney hotel as they all get the port after 1pm. I want to experience the excitement at the terminal before hand. :scared1:

Laura

1. Will you be dressing up fancy for Formal Night?
Yes, for both formal & semi-formal nights.
2. Are you bringing your pirate gear for Pirate Night?
I'll wear something pirate-y, but not a full costume.
3. When will you be coming in to Cape Carneveral.. the morning of or the night before?
The night before. My dad lives in Kissimmee, so we'll be staying there and driving over to Port Canaveral in the morning.

:rotfl: wonder if our friends in the UK and Canada had that drinking song.

yes we do have that song in canada, however we don't have the french version... we have other songs, which you probably wouldn't understand! :)

As for the questions:

Some Questions for our weekend .

1. Will you be dressing up fancy for Formal Night?

yes!!!! My soonDH will rent a tux from the company that does that on the boat... easier for him!

2. Are you bringing your pirate gear for Pirate Night?

Yes I am! My mom has soooo many halloween costume (she's a teacher and dresses up every year) and she has a bunch of pirate stuff!!!

3. When will you be coming in to Cape Carneveral.. the morning of or the night before?

We are flying from Ottawa, so we are staying at the hotel on friday night in Orlando, and rented a car to drive to Cape Canaveral in the morning. We had enough points on our visa travel card so both our tickets to orlando were "free", bought with the points...
