I booked my airfare a couple of days ago...couldn't find anything for a good price out of my town, so we are driving 3 hrs to get better fares!

kerickson Where at in Northern California are you? We are in Eureka.

Hi, Everyone!

I hope you are all well. Dcannon, I wish you the best with selling the house. How's the market where you are? It's not horrible everywhere, I know that. Nothing, within a certain range, stays on the market around here for long. Rentals are the same way.

Welcome Marci. I hope these next 7 and a half months fly by or not. I like the summer time. We can slow down for summer, right? Are you traveling with a group or just with your sister? My friend's husband survived a very bad cycling accident (wearing a helmet) with head injuries. I'm sorry to hear this happened to your sister.

Shannon, I am a scrapbookphobic. Lots of my lady friends scrap. I tried it a couple times and practically had panic attacks. More power to you. A weekend of doing what you love and having fellowship time sounds good to me, though. Once a year, I go to Harrisburg, PA for the big homeschool curriculum conference. We make a weekend of it. Besides the shopping, there are workshops and speakers, I get to see my homeschooling friends from four different states, and we go out to dinner. I'll miss it this year. Money's too tight. :(

Doberlady, did you get a good deal on the airfare?

Pete, I understand now. Poor thing. I don't remember if you told us how young your children are. Ours are past that stage. No Dawn Patrol here. Our oldest is a full-fledge teen who would rather sleep in. His brother, 11, wakes early but has piles of books and magazines hoarded on his bunk. He'd rather read until he's forced out of bed. Our youngest, who will be 8 on Sunday, used to come in our room in the morning but now has chickens to take care of before breakfast and wants to get the paper so she can read the comics and the weather before anyone else.

Just to let you know. I'm praying for a miracle concerning this cruise. Money's tight here and I think the most sensible thing to do is cancel the cruise. Dh wants to hold out as long as possible.

We are in Granite Bay near Sacramento/Roseville. A friend of mine used to anchor the news in Eureka (about 10yrs ago?) so I've been up there a few times. Beautiful up there on the coast.

yazee1, sending some prayers and pixie dust for your situation pixiedust: , hoping things start looking better (for the country as a whole too) by Oct...

Yazee- I am also sending you some pixie dust!

I got airfare for $168 r/t of course today it's $5 cheaper LOL. Airfares are so funny. Never can tell what will happen. I usually just buy when it's below $200. I have not paid less then $158 in years and years.

Hi!! My husband and I just booked this cruise for ourselves. We are going to get my parents to stay with the kids since it is during the school year. We will be celebrating our 10th anniversary!!

Daisy

Hi Daisy, welcome. I just joined this cruise this week also....

We are really looking forward to this cruise, we have never sailed in the fall before, we are hoping weather is good.

Welcome Daisy! We'll be celebrating our 9th anniversary (but with kids in tow, hoping we can steal away for an afternoon or night while the kids are in the club)

Now for the important stuff, what are you all going to wear? :scared: I've been reading that they recommend dresses/skirts for every dinner and long dresses for the formal/semi formal nights. What's the typical attire for meals during the week? I figure I need to start building a cruise wardrobe now or I'll be frantic at the last minute. Men, please provide your thoughts as well as I'll have to provide directions to my DH...

Thank you so much for the welcome!!

I did not think that we were going to cruise for another year, so I have a lot of planning and details to figure out. When you get the info on attire please pass it along.

Please don't stress about what to wear to dinner or break the bank buying a "cruise wardrobe". The way people dress for dinner on the ship is no different than how people dress to go out to dinner on a date or for a special occasion. Think about a Saturday night at the Bonefish Grille or a fashionable (but not snooty) downtown restaurant where you live and that's a measure of how to dress most nights.

For formal night, some families pull out all the stops and get out the gowns and tuxedos but most looked just as dressed up as if they were going to a Bar Mitzvah or a wedding. The families who are really gussied up are likely to be the ones who are having professional pictures taken before or after dinner.

You might want to check out the pictures people post on their trip reports -either here or on other boards.

Great, that's what I was hoping. I haven't been out much since the birth of my 2 kids ;) so this might be a good excuse to buy a few fun items.

This cruise will be my 3rd. I cruise every year as my treat to myself to get away from the stressful job I have. I have stayed with the same week and itenerary, but for 2010, I aim to ahke it up and do a different one. I could not imaging cruising with anyone but Disney!! I am hoping that the boyfriend will be my traveling companion. he is resistant to cruising (and vacations in general, as he is a true work-a-holic) :surfweb: , but I will not be defeated! :rotfl:

Thanks, Doberlady. My favorite threads are the photo threads and the trip reports that are mostly pictures with commentaries underneath. Like they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words".

Did anyone get snow today? I read the news on the internet tonight that it snowed like crazy down South and the snow's coming this way. I'll believe it when I see it.

Dh and I went to a "tropical" theme dinner last night hosted by our township to honor the volunteers of our town. I don't have any "tropical" clothes, so I wore the little dress and hair accessories I wore on our last Disney cruise. Of course, it was about 28 degrees out and I froze my butt off walking to and from the car. Even inside the hall, I kept my shawl on. I would have kept my shawl on anyway since I was the only woman in a summer dress. So embarrassing. :o

Speaking of snow that never came. Today is my daughter's 8th birthday. It's supposed to snow tonight just like it was supposed to snow the night after my daughter was born. The prediction was for 18-20 inches some time between that night and the second day I was in the hospital. The hospital made all kinds of preparations in case the staff would be snowed in. They even made arrangements for me to stay in the hospital with my daughter (who was in the NICU and wouldn't be leaving for a few more days) instead of having me released and possibly unable to get back to the hospital. Did you already guess the "big snow" never came? We did get a few flakes. I think we accumulated, at the most, three inches. I hope it does snow tomorrow. I love to shovel snow.

We'll also be celebrating our 10 years on the cruise, but we're bringing the kids. We figure w/ the kids club & a balcony, it'll give us some alone time still - a lot more than if we just took them to the parks. Ours is in Aug, but we're going now since the rates were better.

PrincessDuck- I hope we have a meet and someone will organize the meet and fish extender swap.

Has anyone had experience with either or is very detail oriented??

Yeah, lots of anniversaries! My husband's parents will celebrate their 50th anniversary on the cruise. The plan was for my in-laws and all three of their sons (and their wives and children) to go. Sadly, dh's younger brother and family can't make it.

This year is our 20th anniversary, but it's not until December 31st. Celebrating in October is a bit of a stretch. Besides, we want all the attention on my husband's parents' special milestone anniversary.

As for the FE, a few pages back, someone said they would do it or help do it. I can't remember who. DISboard pages load so slowly on my computer. I don't have the time right now to filter through and look.

Thanks for the prayers and pixie dust. It looks like we're getting help paying for the cruise, so now I can get excited again about FE's and making hotel and shuttle reservations and all that jazz. DD asked if we can make our trip count-down chain again. I told her we can make it on the 6 month mark. So now she wants to make a chain to count down to the 6-month mark. LOL.

To the newest members of our thread, I'll add your user name and any info you'd like to our list of Meet Members on page one. It might help to have this list once someone takes on the FE coordination or a meet. The past three cruises we did, we had a private Yahoo group. This allowed thread meet members to create a data base with names, room numbers and other info they wanted to share amongst the group but not post on the Dis Board. We also posted pictures there.

Question for those of you who have been on a Disney Cruise before. Have you ever been to Monique's Boutique in Cocoa Beach?

I love the Yahoo groups idea!! I belong to like 20 of them.

I am going to make hotel ressies at the Raddison tomorrow. I booked Tiffany Town Car yesterday for the R/T MCO/Port/MCO

Good evening all!

On the FE front...
I was "nominated" to be the fearless leader in this endeavor by my Dfil. However, Josh (aka ImagineerM) stepped up and said he would do and/or help with the organization. Josh, where are you?????:worship: Funny, I was just "nominated" at my job, yes the brand new job to be the committee chair for our winter meeting/party. Help us all :rotfl:

On the snow front...
Our last blast was a one day doozie a few weeks back. Once it melted, we've had nothing. I expect 1 more good snow, maybe 2-3" at the most, and then IT'S SPRING TIME BABY!!!!! Can't wait.

Yazee, I'm so glad everything has worked out for you, and that you'll be able to join us on the cruise. It's going to be such a special trip for your family. I'm thinking of stealing your idea of the countdown chain. It looks like alot of fun, and DS likes to be crafty. If we get moving on it, we can do it from 7 months. Did you catch the IF there? Maybe 6 months...
