Penny: check this out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlander_(novel)

I have only read the first one and enjoyed it, but I know lots of people that have gotten so hooked they read all 6! Let's just say they are a little "steamy". ;) They are several years old, so you can probably find a cheap used copy on Amazon or at a second-hand book store. Enjoy!

I had asked Wendy in thread if she would bring me a Scottish boyfriend on the cruise since she there. We had a pretty good laugh over it. It's everything... The accent, the family tartan and pride, the kilts made from tartan... I could go on and on... Maybe she can research some websites of Scottish guys looking for American girls... I'm willing to travel!! LOL!

I think I need to research for myself first!! Like everywhere we have some lovely men - but some right pains too! Oh and I loved Monarch of the Glen too although I preferred Archie myself.

Wendy: are you and Mum adding some WDW time to your cruise? I think Nancy is staying several days afterward. We MAY be able to add one or two on either end.

We dont worry about our room either - as love as we are on the ship! Never read the Outlander series - on my list!
Definitely not warm enough for outdoor pools here yet, in fact it rarely is!

We are arriving in Orlando the week before and staying at our timeshare so it would be great to meet up! I promise to email in the next day or soon to catch up - this marking is taking over my life!! Cannot believe it is only 4 months till the cruise.

Thanks for the wiki link! maybe I will bring the first book as my cruise read! I usually do a Stuart Woods book, but did Jimmy Buffett's Swine Not last year. It was cute and an easy cruise read. Very light hearted. Fun to read about the adventures of a spoiled pet pig.:lmao:

I suppose that those people who live in the more northern parts of Europe go to more balmy and tropical locations for holiday.

I cannot remember where people said they were going to be staying the night before we leave... It would be lovely to have a "pre-meet" If anyone is staying at he same place. If I ask a question in this thread more than once, just slap me around virtually a bit, I'm a full time student and full time employee, so the remainder of my brain cells think about the cruise, but can't remember what I have asked!! Forgive me!:3dglasses

I'm really anxious to update my signature to include this cruise... I hope I'm not stepping on any toes! ;)

I made this graphic:

I thought the border added a little something and made it look like a vintage photo/postcard. What do guys think???

The same graphic - just a bit smaller:

Hey All!

Excellent touch on the graphics; I really like the border.

My kids get out of school the day after tomorrow...ohhh noooo, but figure when they head back in September we will be down to just over 30 days. Gotta have something to look forward to over the summer!

Regards,
Pete

Today was the last day of public school around here. I don't pay much attention to the school calendar since my kids don't go to public school, but something happened today that clued me in. While driving my sons to the library's teen program, a school bus passed by me from the opposite direction at a breakneck speed. I could see see kids up out of their seats, and a bunch of kids were screaming out the windows. That is highly unusual behavior in this neck of the woods for both the kids and the bus drivers. The former would be suspended from the bus and the latter would be reprimanded or fired. Then, further down the road, it happened again. Twice. That got me to wondering what's gotten into both the bus drivers and the students. Then I remembered it was the last day of school.

So, what's it like to have kids come home for summer break? Why do parents seem to grit their teeth at the thought of it?

Your visual of the school bus was so funny. School has been out for my DD7since May 15 and most public schools here finished the week before Memorial day. Of course they almost all go back to school between the beginning to Mid August. I think for DD7 she felt that she was missing something by not being in school. So her school had a summer "camp" school program the first 2 weeks of June and she begged to be in school, that we put her in the camp. Kind of nice when a kid begs to go into School. I hope she keeps it up.

On the topic of cruise reading. I'm thinking I'd like to read something humorous. There's still a few Terry Pratchett novels I haven't read. Also, I hear Amy Sedaris is funny. I flipped through " I like You" and that was a hoot. I hear Saki's a good one to read. Has anyone read any of his stories? I picked up one his books at a used book sale last week. I doubt I'll get around to reading it before October.

Thank goodness for interlibrary loan. Our local branch is small and poorly stocked unless you want a steady diet of romance or mystery.

I hope she does too. I think it must be a little girl thing to love school so much. I did. So does my daughter and she doesn't go to a school. She's the only one of my kids who gets right down to business when we start our school day. She's like a dog with a bone on every assignment.

My kids have been out of school since the Friday before Memorial Day. I truly miss them when they are away at school during the day, so I'm enjoying having them home all day, every day! I feel very fortunate that they get along so well and that they really enjoy hanging out with each other. My middle 4 were born within 4 years of each other, so they tend to have similar interests and are able to keep each other entertained. My youngest is the little Princess princess: that all of the 'big' kids just adore! She follows them around all day and they try to include her in nearly everything they do - and they even spend a large portion of their day playing preschool games with her! As far as my oldest (the child that is choosing not to cruise in October), she has been gone a lot this Summer. She just graduated in May and will be studying Pre-Med at the University of Kansas this Fall.

The first thing that comes to mind is Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen. It's a fun light read and begins with a husband who tries to get rid of his wife by throwing her off a cruise ship! (How appropriate) The wife, who was once a championship swimmer, survives and gets revenge in the darnest ways. My book club read it several years ago and we all loved it. I hear it is being made into a movie but we don't know who is in the cast yet. We're all betting George Clooney or Richard Gere for the detective and Cameron Diaz for the wife.
Have you ever used Amazon for their second-hand books? The shipping is always 3.99 but you can sometimes get the books for as low as one penny! (no auction, just straight pricing) I get all my books from there....saves me time and gas!

Now that sounds interesting. I found it online at our library and put it on reserve. I don't think I will let DH read it though :lmao:

That is too funny. I'm picturing a woman lying on a DCL deck chair so engrossed in "Skinny Dip" that she doesn't witness, just several feet away, a struggle between a woman and the man who is trying to pitch her overboard.

By the way, I have read Skinny Dip, too. It was entertaining. I liked Nature Girl even better. I also read one of his nonfiction books, Team Rodent, about Disney. Have you read that?

He wrote that? Oh my goodness, I think I read that 10 years ago! I didn't realize it was the same author since one is a novel and the other, an expose!
I haven't read Nature Girl, but someone else just recommended it to me. I think most of his stuff is light and fun.

Another author - Candy Calvert. She's written a series of murder mysteries that take place on a cruise. Has anyone read her books?
