October 13th, 2007~"Cruise-A-Palooza"

Welcome Jason,

I work in Nashville (live in Franklin). Where are you guys from. There may be another set of Nashvillians joining us. I was talking to a girl at work and she said friends/family of hers was going on a disney cruise during Fall Break for Metro. (Are you related/aquainted with Lauri Hoenig)

Robin

Well, I live in Nashville and work in Franklin! We must pass each other on the interstate in the mornings. I don't know Lauri, however. We live in the Crieve Hall area. If you know where the new(ish) Target is in Brentwood, we are about a mile north and east of that.

Our kids go to private school, but they are following the Metro fall break schedule, which is why we are going on this particular cruise. They are still missing the four days (The break is Friday and Monday - a pretty lame fall break, if you ask me!). I think I mentioned we were originally planning on the Thanksgiving cruise, so they would miss less school. But in the end they would have to miss three days for that (Friday, Monday and Tuesday.) One extra day won't make much difference...

We actually eyeballed the 14 day transatlantic cruise, and went as far as getting permission from the school to be out for two weeks. But we weren't sure if we could deal with our 5 year old on a plane for that long! :)

Jason.

Is anyone else out there watching prices on their website & bidding sites hoping to get a good deal on the Hyatt for the 12th? I have reservations at the Fairfield Inn (just in case), but I would love to get the Hyatt for <$120. We get in on Friday at 11pm. I've been watching Hotwire & Biddingfortravel, but I've never actually bid on a hotel stay before. Getting either of the nice 3 1/2* Marriott properties would be fine too, but not as convenient as the Hyatt especially since we will travel back to MCO for transfers. It seems to be common to get it for between $45-65 on a regular basis. Does anyone have experience doing this or planning to do the same? Thanks

Welcome Jason and Family!

d'Isigny thanks for the picture of the ship - awesome! It only adds to the excitement for a first time cruiser. Quick note to the Nashville members, I'm heading up to your wonderful city for the first time on business a month before we sail. I'll be staying downtown and have a tight schedule, but is there anything I should not miss?

Just a weather note for our friends in AZ - Houston is having the wettest summer I can recall. I would love to ship you all the rain if I could. We've now had 38 of 45 days with rain. I'm thinking I might sail an Ark to Florida in October!

Signing off from a soggy Texas!;)

Hi Everyone!

Hey Bev & Kevin, thanks for those great pictures. I have to admit I'm a big Mickey fan, always have been. I love all of the Disney greats, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, Daisy, Pluto, Chip & Dale, Huey, Dewey and Louie You guys know them all. But Mickey is my favorite.:cool1: :thumbsup2
That nighttime picture Kevin of the ship is simply beautiful. That would make a great desktop photo for the computer. Got any others??
Hey Bev, Emily is a big Princess fan and she got a big laugh at that picture of all of the Princesses you posted. I'm going to try and make her a t-shirt of that. She thought that was great. Emily goes this Monday and starts with the braces. Last Monday the dentist put in a spacer in the back on both sides top and bottom with rubber bands to get started. Her first appointment when we met her dentist, he explained what would go on. He said it might take about 16 months. Now he is saying 12 to 16 months. Emily is hoping for 12 months.:rotfl: :rotfl2:
Hey Bev, us first time cruisers can make our reservations and excursions on July the 30th. I hope we all get what we want and on the day we want. Man - o - man the cruise sure is coming up fast now.:sail: :donald: :tigger: :mickeyjum And, just to think only a few months ago it seemed like it would never get here.
Well, got to go and go out to mow the yard. This is one of my favorite things to do. It's right up there with root canals and pullin teeth!!!!:scared1: Everybody, have a great week-end.
P.S. Welcome to all of our new sailors and sailorettes joining us our our cruise. Welcome aboard, relax and let Disney show us a GREAT TIME!!!

thanks for the nod on the pictures...wish I could take credit for them - I did take them...RIGHT OF THE INTERNET - LOL!! I've gotten hooked on a thread on the general cruise board - 'picture of the day'. The DIS has some very talented photographers...makes me jealous. I love photography and wish I had the skills of some posting on these boards. From time to time...I'll share some on our thread....kinda to get everybody 'a little more excited'.

We won't turn down any rain - sent it our way. since we are currently in the monsoon season...we are getting some showers...this past week each night we gotten some rain. this has helped keep the tempatures down (a little), however...here comes the humidity....AUGH!!!!

OK...here comes another photo...this appears to be from 'the sail away buffet' - enjoy

Jason,

Williamson County also has a strange fall break. It is Friday, Monday and Tuesday. What is really nice is they have added a three day "family break" to be taken for family vacations and - etc as long as you child is up on their grades and not a discipiline problem. I think most will take their trips the week of fall break. I understand about private school and Metro. We made that decision a few years back - move to Williamson Co or do private school. DH took a job in Franklin and that helped us make that decision.

That's a great web site - video, photos and trip reports. Make sure you have plenty of time...you'll be there a while. I found this site a couple of years ago - was bummed to see Cass/Rob will be sailing the week after us - would have loved meeting them...and to thank them for sharing their wonderful talents.

Question...are many sticking around to watch the shuttle launch? I always wanted to see one and we may not get another opportunity to. During our 1995 WDW trip, one was scheduled - but canceled. Have heard the area all around the beach area is 'just a zoo' and traffic is backed up 2 hours post launch :scared1: (and I thought Phoenix traffic was bad). I am just starting to worry about making a 5pm flight out of MCO. Do any of you have any plans...suggestions....share same concerns...let’s tawk.

Holy cow...I didn't even THINK about traffic issues & flight problems because of the launch. Wowza...I'll have to ask Hubby if he wants to push our flight back later. Thanks for bringing that up!

Thanks so much for sharing all your pics!!! We'll try to keep the ship clean and ready for your trip:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :)

We did that, we now have a 6:00 Pm flight home so we can sit , have a leisurely lunch while watching the lift off and drive back to the airport.

Well, Hubby said we'll just keep flight plans the same. He's Executive Platinum with American Airlines (bla bla bla) so he says if something goes wrong & we miss the flight, they'll take care of us anyway. Guess there ARE some perks to having your husband travel over 5 million miles with the same airline for work! :)

Heather - you crack me up! :rotfl2: My DW is the same whenever I mention my status with Continental - she could care less. ;) Luckily for us, we'll be taking the Magical Express to CSR for a few days. Guess we'll just need to be patient with any traffic - at least I'm not driving!:scared1:

Who would have known I'd get busted on my picture find - too funny! Although I do feel know that I have about as good an idea as one can get for never being on the cruise. Counting down the next 7 days till us first timers can book reservations. I have a TA that says she'll book us but I'll probably be up anyway.

Cheers to all!

BTW - way side note - took the family to see "Hairspray" at the movies - highly recommend it!:thumbsup2
