October 13th, 2007~"Cruise-A-Palooza"

OK...I think I should add to my signature line the phrase "HUH?" I feel like I keep asking questions about stuff that I should know! :) I did get some mardi gras beads from my Mom's house this past weekend...

What is the tag game? I must have missed something way back before I found this group :)

Hi! We just booked Monday (July 30th) a Cat 12 GTY for October 13th-20th. Hoping for an upgrade! Got $150 OBC, $50 of that is because we used our Disney Visa. Anyway I thought that was good considering we got nothing on the first cruise (we didn't know). Our TA did give us a gift in our room though, but I would prefer the OBC.

We have done this itenarary before back January 2006. We really enjoyed it and couldn't wait to go back...so here we are. We went to Maegans Bay last time and really enjoyed our beach day. We are thinking of doing the Trunk Bay Snorkel Excursion and go to Orient Beach in St. Marten. I hope the weather is good.

What do you guys know about rebooking onboard. We should have done it last time, but didn't. Please explain this!!

ohhhh...glad you asked that question too, because we're waiting to book another cruise until we're on board. I hear there's a discount? Is it worth the discount (is there a long wait to meet with someone?)?

Well here are afew quotes from older posts that may help.

Is that a question as to whether you use the Alien Green Micky heads from Home Depot as a tag to signify you are a DISer? :confused3

Hi Bev,

Honestly....I was hoping to 'slide under the radar on this' - just for a little bit...LOL. Oh well...let’s just ‘test the waters’ and see what happens.

Our last sailing, we had a large DIS group – 30+ participating in the thread on a daily/weekly basis – close to 50 if you count the lurkers and those that contributed every now and then. To say we had fun...was an understatement...it was a blast!!! We had some; great sharing of information, persons that linked diner reservations together, a baseball rivalry and some that booked 3rd party excursions together (saving $$). Most importantly – we supported each other and it helped passing the time till we sailed.

Other than a couple of DIS-Meets, we wanted to hold an extra activity – called ‘DIS-Tag’. I am going to offer an explanation that Brenda gave in her post-cruise trip report (posted on our yahoo site – under files) – take it away B...

Well, basically we had a list of people who agreed to play tag on the ship and we had two very nice people who helped organize it: Paul, who set up a secure Yahoo database for the cruise, and Kevin who set up the rules and really pulled the game together.

The game starts out with everyone receiving a list of players and a magnet. The idea is to start with the person / cabin listed just below your name on this list - you tag them by leaving the magnet and a little tag gift (we tried to make it easy by suggesting that people leave something indicative of their hometowns / states). Then you have to wait for someone to tag you in the same manner before going on to tag the next person on your list - you keep going until you reach your name.

It was a blast! And people were very creative - Kevin made a vacation / party mix CD for everyone, Suzie left a diabetic coma-inducing bag of sweets to take to the movies, Wayne and his family left a bag o' stuff from England including some keychains and a recipe for yorkshire pudding (Yum!).

Our tag was a grab-bag of stuff that was supposed to play off the name we'd given our cruise thread - The Molar Express. A bunch of us suffered a rash of broken teeth through the year...so I found little toothbrush / teeth eraser sets, and watermelon flavored billy-bob candy teeth and put those in a bag with some other goofy stuff.

If you can get enough people to agree to play and get it organized it adds a whole extra dimension to the week. Jason and I had so much fun with it - we can only hope everyone else did to!

Ohhhhh....I'm all for fun games! I wanna play...

Ok now its all back to the drawing board. Eventually a list will be composed and passed to everyone who decides to play.

Bev,

Don't know if this helps you, but according to my reservation page there are Palo dinner slots open for parties of 3-4 for Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Not sure of the logistics, but maybe you could call them and reserve it for just the two of you?

Mike

I just checked on line again and they still reflect no openings for anything at Palos.

My current plan is to be at port by 10:00 AM and to throw aside anyone who gets between me and the Rockin' Bar D at boarding time.
:rotfl2:
Seriously though,I understand that some Palos reservations are held aside and are available at boarding time. We would like Monday the 15th because thats our anniversary date.

Howdy Y'all...

Glad to hear all our Minnesota friends are safe and sound. I checked in on my Minneapolis office today and everyone was safe there too.

Just got in from our "Sneak Preview" of Underdog! :thumbsup2 It was a cute movie, one of which I'm sure will be on the cruise. Radio Disney sponsored the event - the preview for "Enchanted" looks hilarious. If you haven't seen it, check it out on the Disney Movie site - should be a winner.

Just checked with the DW and we're in for Tag. I'm sure we've got something to represent the "Lone Star State" for gifts!;) Well, I'm all tuckered out so I'll sign off. TGIF! Only 71 days - Yee Haw!

My DW and I are glad to hear our friends from the DIS board from Minnesota are all fine. Our hearts and prayers go out to all in Minnesota.

We too are disappointed that we were unable to obtain reservatios at Palo's. We are going to keep trying too. Bev I hope you and your better half are able to get the ones you want. (Side note here - I call my wife my better half  :cutie: and she calls me, "That idiot that lives with me!!" -- Go Figure!!!) :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: Not sure just what she means, can anyone explain?!???!!! :confused3

Bev or Kevin can one of you explain the Tag game again. It sounds like fun, not sure what it's all about. And, about the gifts you were talking about, what can and can't be used?:confused3 I guess this is where that idiot thing comes into play my DW talks about. You know I always thought she was talking about the dog when she said that. Then one day I overheard her talking to Fido that she loves him more then that other idiot. It took me a couple of days but I finally put to and to...... I mean too and too......... no that ain't right either, I mean 2 and 2 together and figured she just might be talking about me!!!! ;) :rotfl2:

Hello October cruisers! I wish I could say I was cruising along with you, but I'll have to wait until next May to be back on the Magic! However, my little brother and his fiance will be onboard with you as part of their honeymoon vacation!! I'm going to help him sign up with a Dis account tomorrow, but I thought I'd ask first--

Have you guys planned any special activities or get togethers?
Are there other 20-somethings on the roll call?
Has anyone made plans with fish extenders?

We're making fish extenders for our repo cruise, but I wasn't sure if he could use them on this cruise too.

Not sure if anyone knew this, but ticket prices to the parks go up after today. I just called and checked - I'm attending a conference after the cruise at WDW and was told the conference rates hold until the end of year. However, if anyone is going before or after you might want to get those dialing fingers busy to save some cash just in case.

Here's the best explaination of DIS tag I have read so far:

I have some questions myself about this game.
Are we anonymous when we play tag or do we leave our name on the gift?
Kevin will have to explain more because this will be the first time I played.

Fish Extenders: I have never seen one only read about it, heres a link to the description. You use them for delivery of DIS tag gifts I think, or you can let your room steward know you are accepting deliveries if you don't want to use a extender. MAny people make these. I am not crafty so I doubt I will. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1506623&referrerid=&highlight=FIsh+Extenders

We do not have a DIS meet scheduled. Anyone want to volunteer to organize a time and place? I am a first time cruiser, I do not know where or when a good time is.

Forgot to mention, just booked our tix for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween!!!! Can't believe it cost so much on top of the day tix already.

Thinking of those in Minnesota.

Is the fish extender where you leave the Dis tag goodies? Why have so many pockets?

DisneyFamyTX-We went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (two years ago) before the crusie and had a BLAST! We were dressed as The Incredibles! Walking through the Beach Club lobby people stood up and clapped. The next day in Epcot a family recognized us, "Look honey , It's the Incredibles!" You will have a super time.

We chose to skip Mickey's Not So Scarry Halloween party last October at Disney, but had friends who went and said it was SOOOO worth the extra bucks! You'll be glad you did it...
:)

We went two years to Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween party, we were mimes......easy costume and had buckets of fun

I am clueless as to why so many pockets, but if 30 people play DIS tag I guess you need them....(30 divide by 6= 5 gift delivers per day). or else you would have to find a room steward to deliver them to the other players which could get time consuming. How fun to anticipate the deliveries!

Hope someone knows the answers I am just guessing.

We did this after our Oct 2005 Wonder cruise and last Oct while visiting WDW. It is just awesome and the kids love it. The crowds are way down so there is very little waiting in line. The weather is wonderful. Everyone is dressed up and MK is magically transformed into a Halloween Haunt. There is candy (really good stuff (a/k/a chocolate) stations throughout the park and they give the kids handfuls of it. The fireworks are just amazing with lots of purples, greens, oranges & etc. They surround the park in addition to above the castle.

If anyone is still around, I believe they have one of them scheduled after our cruise on Sunday, October 21st. It's worth every penny.
