October 11, 2014 7-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise on Disney Magic (San Juan)

Apparently I am one of the suckers with a SPH room. ;) Actually two of them. I just told my TA to get me connecting Cat 10 rooms and that's what I got. I will have to see if the regular porthole rooms are cheaper. The big thing for us is the connecting rooms since we are a family of 5. At this point, I think it will to hard for us to get connecting.

We would love to be on this cruise, we have a courtesy hold, but still waiting to see if we can transfer our existing DCL reservations to this cruise. Hopefully it will all be sorted out on Monday. All of the ports will be new to us.

My husband is nervous about the port being in San Juan. I will have to do a bunch of research on flights and hotels and the port.

You can get started on your husband's hesitation with my posting 138 and 140 in which I briefly gave some background to another family. It's not the states for sure but a nice experience all in all. Another thing we found unlike being in the states is that you will not see the multitudes of eating places like you do stateside. But there are enough to get by. They may be a distance to get to depending on where you stay, if you intend to arrive ahead of the cruise or stay later. The resort dining is definitley more expensive option.
By the way, whereabouts in Wisconsin are you from? My wife is from Milwaukee (Greenfield) and people we usually cruise with are from just down the road from Lynn's haunts.

Where in Wisconsin are you? We are in Fitchburg (basically Madison). Last year on our cruise we met 2 other couples from here. One lives a mile from us, the other was in Stoughton. Just met them by chance - small world!

We live in Janesville but my husband is currently working construction at Epic in Verona.

Do you usually fly out of Chicago or out of Milwaukee? I have noticed that there are not many direct flights and the connecting flights take all day. Looks like we will have to fly in the day before and stay in San Juan. We have not cruised since our PC sailing in 2011. I am surprised my husband is onboard for this cruise because he barely made the last one. 14 nights on the boat was just to much for him, poor guy. Not me, I could have stayed another 14 nights without a problem.

Hi again! :thumbsup2

Please could we be added to the fish extender list.

It will be myself (Amy - 40 at time of cruise),DH Steve (41), DS Kai (10) & DS Lucas (7). We're in stateroom 5013.

Thank you!!:thumbsup2

We aren't too far from Epic. We fly out of Madison or Milwaukee - depends on price. Not sure what we will do for the flight to San Juan - I'll start thinking about that next year. I have to figure out how & when we are getting to Miami for our cruise this October. I want to do the PC cruise - that was what I actually had in mind for 2014, but then I saw these. I was also a little concerned about taking DD out of 5th grade for 2 weeks. I would LOVE a 14 day cruise!!

Funny this will be our fourth cruise out of four different ports, but classic cruises always seem to leave on the 11th of the given month.:confused3

I hadn't about it, but this will be our third different port, having sailed out of PC, NY and now San Juan.

My DD will be 15...she made some good friends on our last cruise. She will be excited to hear of other girls her age this sailing too!

Even though mine will be 16 - she will have just turned 16 3 weeks before this cruise!

Besides PC, this will be our third different port. Barcelona, Galveston and this one San Juan... all on the Magic.

Now I'm thinking....LA, PC, NY and San Juan all on the Magic.

Just PC for the Wonder, Dream and Fantasy.

This will be the third port for us PC, NY and now San Juan...but dh wants to do a dcl cruise out of Miami that includes Key West...so maybe 4 ports!!

Whereabouts from New York are you? When we say we are from New York people automatically think NYC. Lynn and I are 25 miles Northwest of Rochester. Just a couple miles from the Southern shore of Lake Ontario.

Chris

We are from Cortland. I went to Brockport!

That was a quick reply. We are in a small town called Hamlin which is 6 miles North of Brockport, straight up Route 19. One of my sisters attended Brockport State. Late 70's. I use to date a girl in college who was from Cortland. That also was many years ago, and no my wife Lynn is not that girl. LOL. I met Lynn when I was in the Navy and attending Navy schools at Great Lakes Navy Training Center. She lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We met in a bar to the music of CCR, Steppenwolf, Led Zeplin, etc. She played hard to get for several weeks before giving in to go out with me. The rest is history.

Has anyone looked for hotels in San Jaun for the night before the cruise?

And possibly a day after.

Depending on the flights.:confused3

Lynn and have yet to do this. We sailed RCCL out of San Juan almost 3 years ago. We arrived 2 days prior to the cruise and stayed 1-1/2 days after. No regrets other than we could have stayed a little longer to get some more sightseeing in. We did Priceline because the rates of the resorts/hotels were high. We ended up at the Intercontinental Resort for a fraction (about half) of their listed price. Nice resort that was on the beach (shoreline), as is many resorts. Some nice hotels are not on the shore but are of good star rating. We intend to do priceline, or other such option, to get a ressie at a resort.

Chris

Dizzi, another note on rersorts/hotels, We did a lot of research at the resort sights before we made our bids so that we had a good idea of what we would accept.

I wasn't planning on thinking about it until next year. Anyone have thoughts on how far in advance a pre hotel should be booked? I imagine that there will be alot of people flying in prior to the cruise.
