October 11, 2014 7-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise on Disney Magic (San Juan)

This cruise is gonna be like old home days! It's funny to see how many people already know each other or who have cruised together before!

Were in! Cheapest stateroom possible but will join y'all.

Just upgraded to the 2nd cheapest room 11B. We're going on the Med cruise this summer and I don't think my husband will ever get over the sticker shock.

Wow, this thread is already huge! :) I'd love to join in. My husband & I will be on this cruise. It will be my 7th DCL cruise and his 2nd. I've been wanting to go to Grenada since I read the book, An Embarrassment of Mangoes, and I'm so excited that Disney is going there.
I guess I'd better go read the whole thread now. :)

We are from Manlius. We really liked Princess, but it's not the same as Disney and Disney is always my first choice. We were not a fan of RCCL. I felt we had to work too hard to have fun. They relied heavily on casino for entertainment. We have a cruse booked on Holland American, so no experience yet.

We say one of the Disney ships when we were in Alaska, Broke my heart to not be on it.
The one comment I would have is that Princess does Alaska all the time for many years, so they have experience in what a re the good excursions and good places to cruise. But that said...If we go again, it will be with Disney. Disney knows how to entertain you, and how to make you feel good.

We felt the same way with our two RCCL sailings. Both ships were nice but the entertainment just had something missing. The restaraunts were nice and same for the servers and stateroom people. Anyway, we will give Princess a serious consideration if we do Alaska based on what you said about their experience there.
The DCL ship you saw was the Wonder. Dis only does a one week sailing, and that is a round trip sailing. That's one reason we are not considering DCL for Alaska. We want to be able to spend time there and see as much as possible, thus we will do Alaska for 12-14 days. I may pick your experience with Alaska as time goes on.

We are from about thirty miles NW of NYC, but I can relate to what you're saying. My wife's cousin is from Rochester and gets that all the time. Growing up on LI, we used to think about where we lived now was "upstate" :rotfl2:

My wife and I both went to school upstate, she to Oneonta and me to Binghamton. Two of our kids stayed in state too Cornell and Fredonia.

In the early 60's my father took an assignment with the FAA at JFK and we lived in Valley Stream for a year before moving upstate to Oneida. In Valley Stream I attended Andrew Jackson High School.
Gotta say we loved going to see the Yamkees play at Yamkee Stadium a number of times. Also use to ride our bikes to JFK just to watch the planes come and go. Ah, to be young again.
By the way, where in the Rochester area is your wife's cousin or is her cousin in Rochester proper?

Hey everyone, it was posted earlier that over on Facebook we are taking nominations for a cruise name. If your on Facebook page make sure you add your idea, if your not add you idea here and I will make sure its included in the vote we will be having. At some point in time (not now) I will want to make a list of those who are not on Facebook so we can include you in the vote. So get your imagination going and come up with a keeper.

If you do have a Facebook account and haven't joined us there, the link to the site is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/168396449974835/ This is a closed group only available to members of this thread. I have read that some do not have any interest in Facebook and that is being respected. I as will others from time to time will write a synopsis of what's being chatted about. I will try to do that later today, heading to work now in the snow and -14 temps.

Hello everyone! We are on this cruise as well! It will be myself, DH, DD (6 yrs), DD (4 yrs), and our baby (TBD as he/she is still cooking right now) :).

This will be our 7th DCL cruise. We were originally booked for spring break on the Fantasy in 2014, but as soon as they announced these, we decided to switch over. The cost ended up being $300 cheaper and we went from a category 8 to a 4! Plus you can't beat these ports!

My oldest daughter will be on fall break during this week, so she will just miss a day or two for travel time. We will also be cruising with some friends and their two kids. This will be our 3rd cruise with them.

We will be going to San Juan on the Fantasy in April this year, so I am super excited to know that we get to go back again.

Since we are gold, we did book on opening day, and I just forgot to check the boards for a meet until now. I can't believe how many pages it already is! I am so excited at what a lively bunch we have and tons of repeat cruisers!

Gometros, It seems we circulate around the same areas. 2of my kids went to Bing and Cornell.

We just both have very good taste.

I suspect this is going to be a very busy meet thread. Could we potentially see hitting the 250 page limit one day?

Hi,

We just booked this cruise, and it will be our 4th Disney unless we go on another one before 2014.

Our first Disney cruise experience was Christmas 2010 in southern caribbean, so we are very excited to be going back there again.

see you on Facebook!

Hi everyone!

I posted this over on the facebook page, but figured I'd post over here as well for the 7 people that don't have facebook accts :lmao:

I was thinking of setting up a Beer Geek Meet while on board. You'd bring a couple bottles of a beer you like (homebrewers can bring their own if they like...I hope to bring some beer that I've brewed by that time), and we'd set up a time/place to share beer. If anyone is interested, feel free to PM me and I'll add your name to the list we're creating over in facebookland.

I don't think I have seen a board this busy on DIS! I am hoping to book this cruise while we are on board the Magic in May. Looks like a lively group will be on board.
