Part 3
On to Costa Rica, and the banana plantations. Costa Rica has a 98% literacy rate and is, like Switzerland, officially neutral. They have no military. We docked in Puerto Limon and went ashore for a Limon city tour. We went everywhere but Limon. We went to a small town called Bananito (small banana). It was build by the Dole company for their employees. They are provided housing, electricity, water, schools and churches. Quaint little town and of coarse it had a small shopping area set up just for us. Cool little place and they had Café Britt, some of the best coffee on the planet. We could order it on the ship and have it shipped home. Done!! I ordered 20 bags, some to give away. Then we went to a Chiquita banana packing plant. Ok, maybe plant isn’t the proper term… maybe facility is better…maybe open air facility is even better. I’m sure the roof is there to protect the conveyor equipment. There were huge carts full of bananas and they were being packed into boxes and loaded onto a trailer. We saw a few monkeys, and a sloth along the way as well. Back to the ship for dinner & martini’s! (See a pattern here?)
Off to the Jamaica and the Mother Land!! We head back across the Caribbean Sea toward Jamaica. We need a sea day by now, because everyone has been going hard for the last 3 or 4 days and needs a break. We arrive in Jamaica and it’s time for our ATV trip. There are only 4 people on the ship to take the ATV adventure. We meet our guides and they “instruct” us on the proper operation of, and the safety equipment required to operate, the vehicle. One we have mounted our ride, we are given a go’round in a small arena to be sure we knew what we were doing. While walking to our rides, the guide pointed out a location high upon a hill about 5 miles or so, from where we were and about 600 or 700 feet above sea level. It took about 30 or 40 minutes to get there. Once there, we had a beautiful view of the beach. There was a poinsettia tree there, yep, a tree, and it had roots bigger than my arm!! After some pictures, and some small talk about Bob Marley, and the where and why’s Mary-Jane is legal in some parts of Jamaica and not others, we were off for a swim, or so we thought. Part of the excursion was a swim in a lagoon. We were told to wear long pants, closed toed shoes, and swimming gear under. What they didn’t tell us was, if we wanted to get in the water, we had to jump off a 15 foot cliff into 20 feet of water! Now I was hot and ready for some water, but I’m not one for heights. So needless to say, I didn’t get wet. So it was back to town for our trip to the Mother Land for lunch! We stopped at the Hard Rock first, then we headed to Margaritaville. We cleaned out the gift shop and then went in to eat lunch. I ordered a Cheeseburger in Paradise, and a Landshark. A couple of chugs into my Landshark, they played the Parrothead National Anthem, with the lost verse! It couldn’t have been much better!! After lunch, we shopped a little more, then headed back to the ship. Our last sea day was spent sunning, resting and packing.

And last but not least....

Part 4
We arrive back at Port Everglades around 6 am Sunday morning, along with 10 or 12 other ships!! We get off the shortly after 8 am and begin our trek home. It begins with an excursion to the Everglades and the Flamingo Gardens. We went for an airboat ride in the Everglades. It would hold 15 or 20 people and had two 600 hp Cadillac engines, and yes, it would fly!! We saw a couple of alligators, and several different birds. After the ride, we went to see the “alligator wrestler”. All I can say is, that guy is crazy. Onward to the Flamingo Gardens, a 60 acre Botanical Garden and wildlife sanctuary in Davie, Florida. We rode a tram through the gardens first. They had lots of flora and fauna, along with lots of wildlife. By now, since they forced us to get off the ship, we are ready to go home! To Miami International we go...... just to be dropped off at the wrong end and wrong level of the airport!! Luckily, we took advantage of a Princess program that allowed us, for a $15 fee, to check our bags at the ship terminal and not have to deal with them until we got home. That service is worth twice the price!!! They also checked us in for our flight and delivered our e-tickets to our stateroom the last night. All we had to do was find our terminal and go through security. The flight to Memphis was smooth and on time. By the time we got to Memphis, it was supper time. We ate at Jim Neely’s BBQ in the airport, the one on the Food Network. I have eaten my share of BBQ, and even make so good BBQ if I do say so myself. This was the best BBQ I have ever eaten…anywhere. It wasn’t long until we found out our flight to Nashville would be delayed by about 30 minutes. The plane coming in from Minneapolis was running late. The flight to Memphis took about 45 to 50 minutes. The flight back to Nashville took less than 35 minutes!! You could tell he was pushing to try to catch up. That’s ok, if we couldn’t be on the ship, we were glad to be home. The tour company had a Coach pick us up at the airport and bring us back to our cars in Lebanon. We loaded the car, and was home by 10pm. What was the first thing I did?? Turned on the laptop, and checked the Disboard!! You all had already gone to bed!! I really feel the Disney and Princess shouldn’t be compared to each other, because their demographics are completely different. I saw very few children, a few teens, and the majority of the rest were upper 50’s on up. Several couples on the ship have been married over 50 years. That having been said, Disney is still my favorite!! October is just around the corner!

Part 2
Aruba looked a lot like Antigua. We chose to stay on the ship in Aruba for two reasons. One, it was Sunday and most everything was closed. Some of the shops opened for a while for the ship, but mostly it was the flea market type shops. Two, we wanted to save our money for other later.
Next was Cartagena, Columbia. We took a tour to the La Popa Monastery high above the city. You could see most of the city from there. We rode through many parts of the city. The class divisions are very pronounced. After a stop at a local modern shopping complex, we went into Old Town, or the Walled City. The architecture of Old Town is spectacular. It is very old but very vibrant and busy. On the way back to the ship, We went by the Fortress for a photo stop. I’m glad I didn’t have to climb to the top! Back to the ship for dinner & martini’s!
Next is the Gatun Locks of the Panama Canal. We entered the channel to the canal around 6 am. It is 5 miles from the breakwater to the locks. It took almost an hour to reach the locks. I got what I think is one of the best pictures I have ever made going through the canal. It is a sunrise picture.
I will post it later. After traversing the locks, we pulled into anchorage in the lake and unloaded everyone who was going on excursions in Panama. We stayed and watched ships come in and out of the canal while we ate lunch. At about 1 pm, we began the process line to go back through the locks. After going back through the locks, we pull around to Colon and dock. There was a shopping area set up in the terminal building and we were encouraged not to leave the terminal. We were not going to bet there long anyway, and according to them, “it’s a port town, and there is nothing to see….” To make a long story short, Mary & I got our wires crossed up and she got off the ship while I was waiting for her in the lobby. By the time I figured out what was going on and got off, she was getting back on. She was telling me to go shop and see the dancers. I wasn’t hearing what she was saying because steam was coming from my ears. So I went into the terminal and looked around for a few minutes and figured out there wasn’t anything there I needed. What I missed however were the dancers…..the topless dancers!!! That’s what I get for being mad I guess…. Oh well, back onboard for diner and martini’s.

I love reading it so far. I can't wait to see the pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning all!

I haven't had a chance to read the trip report, but I am looking forward to it.

I wanted to see 30 Days of Night, was it decent??? Was it creepy? I love scary movies.

I did watch Lost last night. The hockey game ended at 9:30, and dh said we should go ahead and watch it (usually at 9:30 he's getting ready for bed since he gets up at 5:30). It was most interesting!!! But now we don't get any for 5 weeks!!! I need to rewatch a few minutes of last weeks to see what the Captain said about why Widmore wanted the island. And what the heck was up with Sayid turning Michael in???
