Ok, I have another ? for you... LOL! DH and Kaj are ham radio fans, and were thinking about bringing their radio with them. I assume that you can't use it on board (can't you just picture an antenna hanging off the veranda! LOL!) but they were thinking it might be fun to use on the beach at one of the islands... anyone else out there into Ham radio, or know anything about being able to use one on the trip?

My parents used to be in to just CB radios, but we never got into ham. I have no idea what the rules and regulations are! It might be something you'll have to look into with Disney. I wonder if anyone else has ever asked?

Growing up we had a CB tower at the house and I remember one night, late, actually early morning? I had just got off of work from the pizza place, so it was like 3am, anyway, Dad was talking to a guy from Australia. It was just the perfect conditions that they could talk to each other. Pretty cool really!

And yet one MORE question... how many are doing to do tuxes and gowns for formal night rather than coat/tie and cocktail dress?

Thinking ahead on the need for shopping and weight loss! LOL!

Count us in for the suit coat with Dockers and a cocktail dress. No tuxes and gowns here!

I'm a ham....in more ways than 1!!! KD4WYB here. You have to have permission from the Captain to operate on board.

And the reciprocal agreement with the other countries is a must for operating from their soil. St. Thomas isn't an issue, and neither should Castaway Cay. I'm sure the US has agreements with the Dutch and French to operate on St. Martin...but should check and see.

Yeah, Kaj had his first contact last June at Kids day, spoke to someone in Quebec, and during the 3 hours the boys (5 boys and their amazing leader! LOL!) they spoke to people from Italy to Spain to California, even Venezuela. Way cool! Their radio is on its way to be cleaned up and refurbished to like new condition, and they can't wait to get back on the air.

I would only bring a handheld. You can't hang an antenna off your balcony. I got busted for having a GPS antenna on my balcony. I'm not sure how you would get permission before hand, because it must come from the Master of the Ship, or in this case, the Captain.

He is dreaming big here... LOL! We ARE at the back of the ship right next to the secret 7 deck, its a pretty decent sized veranda!

Not to mention they are trying to figure out a way to get to Dayton for Hamfest this year! We have friends who live nearby (the fellow who got them involved in the first place) so at least we would have a place to stay!

yes, this is vacation, and if this makes them happy, well, who am I to argue! So long as I get to have MY fun too...
