For all the Ladies on this thread, will you be wearing floor length gowns for formal night, I have a couple cocktail dresses that I could wear for semi or for formal night but am wondering if I should buy a floor length one.

I am wearing floor length for formal night, as is my dd. We have shorter cocktail dresses for semi formal.

I'm not sure, I still need to buy one, but I'm leaning towards a shorter cocktail dress for formal night. My girls will be in long dresses. I hope I won't be under dressed!!!!

Hey guys, are you all wearing Jackets on formal night? I was just reading another formal night thread and they said a lot of men just do shirts and ties. What are you fella's doing? I told dh and ds they have to wear jackets...

I know we discussed this earlier. I'm torn about what to do. This is the first time we're flying down. When we drove, packing was not an issue and I had no problem bringing a tux or a suit. I'd really like to wear a tux, but I'm hesitant to order from the cruise line, cause even with the weight loss, I'm not an off the rack kind of guy and not having it fitted before hand makes me nervous. So, I may just do a suit this time. I can't not wear some kind of jacket for formal night.

I have a really pretty white dress that is shorter that I am going to wear for Formal night and maybe just a really nice pant suit and shirt for semi formal...Not sure on the semi formal night yet though but I do have my dress all picked out for formal :woohoo: I still have to think of outfits for my DS and DH, My DH can wear a suit with tie for Formal and just the shirt with slacks and possibly tie for semi formal (just minus the jacket). Now the hard part...Getting a 3 year old to dress up...maybe a suit for formal for him (he has a couple nice ones but no jacket...and just a nice shirt and slacks for semi formal. Im not much into dressing him up for regular cruise casual since I prefer him to be comfy than miserable. But I will do collared shirts for each night except pirate pirate:

I am bringing a floor length dress for the 1st time ever, but only because I had to buy one in May to go to the Phoenix Ball (a local event) and it seems very packable. I have always taken this black sleek sleeveless dress and on formal night I wore a sparkly jacket thing with it and on semi-formal just some dressy jewelry. It was mid-calf or a little lower and I wore heels. I noticed that no one wore 'stockings' much. I have taken black sheer ones and ended up not wearing them. Be sure you bring black undergarments, though, because from experience I can tell you that white ones may show through in pictures even if you didn't notice in your stateroom and can't see them in the dimness of the dining room. :rotfl:

You will see every level of dress from fully sequined to sundress and some people totally disregard the formal and semi-formal idea. I know we, as DIS'ers, want to set the bar high, though!;)

Last year DD refused to wear a dress so she wore nice black pinstripe pants and a white kinda casual jacket over a plain black tee. And I was happy to get her to dress to that level!!!

My DH and DS have taken suits or sport jackets and khakis and have fit right in. They wore ties. Last year they rented tuxes on board and they looked SHARP!:dancer: :dancer:

Make sure you try on the tux right away to ensure the fit is right! My DH rented one on our first cruise and "said" he tried it on. Come formal night, he puts on the pants and they were flood pants! He looked a bit like bozo the clown. In all our photos, I'm trying to pull his pants down and we are laughing out loud. Didn't make for the best photos but we sure had some big time yucks!:lmao:

Since then, I just drag his jacket and slacks along...

Relative to my previous post. Since you have experience with this, when is the tux delivered to your room and is there time to make adjustments if needed before or after we sail?

I would think cocktail dress is fine. Not that I noticed anyone other than my beautiful wife, but I don't honestly recall any floor length gowns, just mostly cocktail type dresses

****ATTENTION: CRUISE INFO****
I have the green mickey heads made for everyone on the list. I have not received list info from gouodux, or Disney Becky, so send me that info!!!!!! Maureen sent me an email and we do need to start "nailing" down some of these activities we have been talking about. We have been talking party at CI&S. At last check, they do not have a bar at the pool. So we will need to bring our own beverages. NO GLASS is generally the rule around pools. So if your beverage of choice is only available in glass....like Landshark, be sure you have a cup!!! I have music on an ipod, but I'm not sure what we will have to plug it up to at this point. Maybe Kristin could start an activities page on the website so we can keep up with these decisions we make. :confused3 It has been mentioned, but we need to try to decide when, where and how's of a group picture if everyone is so inclined. You know we will meet at sail-a way somewhere. We might have an outside location selected, and an inside location in case of rain. Would anyone like to volunteer to keep a list of these activities that could be updated and sent to Kristin for posting on the website?? (I think Pinkygirl has access to the website, yes???) Anyway.....food for thought. Off to a meeting, see you later!!
Allen

If nobody else steps forward, I'll be glad to help out. I've done it before and it will help fill the time until the cruise :goodvibes

Our cabin steward had the tux in the room when we arrived (about 1:30). I was busy unpacking and told DH to try everything on. I did check the fit for my DS but assumed DH checked his own! We were told that minor alterations can be made during the first afternoon/evening and they also have extra pieces onboard that you can get in exchange for ill-fitting pieces. If I had seen his pants, we would have done something right away!

Really, on the formal, semi-formal thing, I don't look at anyone else unless they are just way casual (I've seen jeans and shorts) or way dressy (and I just think wow, they look great!). If you're planning to have a picture made, think about that but don't worry too much and don't pack too much! It is fun to dress up but have fun and be comfortable because there will be others who ignore the theme. And make one dress go for both dinners and Palo and then you can buy an extra souvenir or do that spa treatment!

Just my two cents worth.

Jamie

Hey Gouodux...

Sorry to hear about your father. We certainly hope he improves. We live in North Hollywood, as you know right next to Van Nuys. Let us know if you need anything while you're in town, sounds like we are just minutes away...

Randy and Candy

Thank you for the offer and everyone's kind words.

The surgery isn't the problem. He had three vertebrae that had been damaged. (probably from his flying days and pulling all those G's in the X-15). This also was causing some nerve damage. The surgery was very successful.

The problem seems to be with the anesthesia, pain medication, and all the medication he is on for Parkinson's. Kind of a medicinal cocktail gone bad. He has been in ICU since post-op and his cognitive abilities are, well not good. He was an extremely intelligent and proud man, to see this is so disheartening - the last thing that he would ever want.

We did walk over to the Galleria last night to pick up dinner. Boy has that place changed since we were last there - but that was at least 10 years ago.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family:grouphug:

Thanks all for letting me know your dress ideas. I still haven't decided what I am going to do but do agree that I need to be aware of how much I pack.

hey Gina!!!!!! I think I will be bringing a floor lenght dress for formal and wearing black dress pants and a sequin top for semi formal......

Oh, yeah, that's right! He got in trouble for that with the mrs. ....but it was raining really hard and he couldn't get back to the meeting spot until the rain let up, now could he!:lmao: So the only choice was to sit under the umbrella at the bar:drinking1 What's a guy gonna do?:confused3

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I see nothing wrong with seeking shelter in such a time of chaos. Just having a combination of shelter AND sustinance would make you a hero! :lmao:
