We booked last week and were told that the French Quarter and the Carib. Beach were sold out for 10/17-10/25. We settled for the Riverside. Has anyone else had problems with resorts being sold out? It just seems odd, since I figured that the resorts would be crowded the first week with the free dining expiring, and the last week with Halloween. We went last year 10/1-10/9 and had our pick of moderates.

Yes, I've had the same experience trying to book 10/19-10/24. I had booked the Poly but couldn't justify the $$$ with all I spent on F & W events (figure with all that wine, I'll be lucky to FIND the room :rotfl2: ). Wanted Coronado but only a king suite was available--that certainly wasn't a savings. Ended up at the French Quarter, and felt lucky to get it with the lack of availability. I'm kind of a deluxe snob ( :) ), but I'm sure it will be fine (remember that wine!)

Has F&W gotten THAT popular?

Thankyou, I do not feel so alone now. I am going back to my travel agent tomorrow to add the dining and am going to have her try to get us into the French Quarter. We stayed there last year and really loved it. I wonder if maybe Disney is blocking off availability due to all the events that month.

It's not F&W; there is a huge IT conference at the Swan and Dolphin/Yacht and Beach conference centers on the 16th-21st of October. I know that the Yacht and Beach are the first to get booked up for that (I got into the Yacht)....

What is an IT conference and should I be worried?

It's a conference of computer professionals (information technology). They usually hang more around the resort than in the parks.

The Funai Golf Classic is Oct 20 to 23, another factor for booked rooms.

Yup...and here's the company that's putting it on:

I can vouch for IT folks staying in / around the hotels. In 2002, I went to an IT conference at the Dolphin and out of the 5 days I stayed there, I only ventured into Epcot for a few hours one afternoon. Of course, this was before I started planning (and becoming obessed thanks to the disboards) our honeymoon to Disney. The conferences keep most people occupied all day, and in the evenings, they usually have parties or other events to keep people otherwise busy and happy. On one of the evenings, we were shipped off to Universal Studios for a private party (which actually wasn't very fun, imho, unfortunately....maybe it was just the people I was with)....

Historically speaking, October is a big month for conventions.

My inlaws just booked two rooms at the CBR for 10/22-10/29 on Saturday. I think they went through expedia.

And, you could always rent points from a DVC member - that's what we did and I think it's a great option.

The Fall nationals for Taekwondo are that week-on site. My dh would kill to be there but we booked for Sept before we knew about it-so his loss.

Oh no. Does this mean SAB will be packed if there is a convention there?

I would say, no---going by my experience with DH's convention in Orlando last year. We tagged along, but not all companies allow family to stay at company's expense. My sister is frequently there for conventions, and she rarely even goes into the parks for dinner. (I yell at her all the time for that! haha) The people at the actual convention will be involved in meetings, etc all day, and most likely making contacts in the evenings in the bars, restaurants, etc. When DH was out of his meetings, he spent the time with us in the parks.

Although, the actual people attending the Gartner conference don't tend to spend a lot of time at the parks, they often bring their families who do spend time in the parks. I used to work in IT and did the Gartner thing several times. I have a friend coming down in October for the conference and he is bringing his wife and two kids. We will all be going to the parks.

I'm just saying you may see a slight increase in crowds at the parks due to the conference.

Jpgirl;

Do you have info on the taekwondo? we'll be there than and my husband would love to look in on something like that. while i'm at the parks with the kids of course!

Keep in mind that a lot of the DVC resorts are also sold out ... member services said it's because of F&W. We are staying at OKW and SSR, but definitely could NOT get BCV, BWV or VWL. We're waitlisted for 4 nights at BCV, but not counting on it to happen. :sad2:

Reading this makes me glad that I didn't wait for those mythical Oct/Nov codes to come out for my late Oct trip. And this is exactly why I didn't want to wait...thank goodness I am a cynic :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yea all the conventions will be over in Oct when we arrive. There might be a day or 2 that might be affected, but it will be ok.

A DVC owner I know said that Oct is booked. I just called this morning and POFQ was booked up, so I'm trying POP for Oct 21-24. At least they had AAA discount available. Looks like Oct. is going to be busy!
