October has become to be known as "convention" month at WDW. Some years ago this was considered an "off peak" time...no longer the case. I remember speaking to a CM at CRO about 5 yrs ago and he told me that.
We are staying at the Swan around the is time and were told that rooms were very limited at the time I made the reservations. Now this makes sense as to why it is.
S/D are very popular convention resorts, especially in Sept & Oct but we still enjoy going at this time. I think the toughest experience was a few years back when YC/BC was having a convention party gathering on the beach with music and Pluto dancing around. Of course it was only for the convention guests, try explaining that to a 3 yr old walking by being told she couldn't go and see Pluto. (really shouldn't have been out in the open like that IMHO)-we were walking back to the Swan at the time.
F&W has definitely become more popular as well. EPCOT is probably at it's busiest at night during this time. We did find WDW to be a little busy this time of the year but still comfortable.
