Oct sold Out resorts

October has become to be known as "convention" month at WDW. Some years ago this was considered an "off peak" time...no longer the case. I remember speaking to a CM at CRO about 5 yrs ago and he told me that.

We are staying at the Swan around the is time and were told that rooms were very limited at the time I made the reservations. Now this makes sense as to why it is.

S/D are very popular convention resorts, especially in Sept & Oct but we still enjoy going at this time. I think the toughest experience was a few years back when YC/BC was having a convention party gathering on the beach with music and Pluto dancing around. Of course it was only for the convention guests, try explaining that to a 3 yr old walking by being told she couldn't go and see Pluto. (really shouldn't have been out in the open like that IMHO)-we were walking back to the Swan at the time.

F&W has definitely become more popular as well. EPCOT is probably at it's busiest at night during this time. We did find WDW to be a little busy this time of the year but still comfortable.

::MinnieMo :earsboy: Going to CS Oct 2 thru 10th :wizard:
Made reservations before the free meals promotions so I guess rooms were not so hard to come by and then switched over to the free meal plan and saved a bundle! Yeah! Can't wait to see Mickey and Minnie! :wizard: :wave2:

It's always busy at WDW. Maybe a little more than other times, but low crowds are a thing of the past!

I had to add a night to CBR, because of an excellent deal we got on airfare and I was able to get a room no problem for the night of the 22nd...it wasn't a preferred room. I have all that week in a preferred room, so we get to check in, sleep, check out and then re check in to our preferred room. I just made that call day before yesterday.

Everything is booked because of the conference. I know since my DH goes every year and that's exactly when it's being held. My DH had to make his room reservations in mid-April.

The Fall nationals for Taekwondo are that week-on site. My dh would kill to be there but we booked for Sept before we knew about it-so his loss.

When are those dates? The week before the 23rd? Or that week. We arrive late on the 22nd and the 23rd and 24th we are relaxing poolside with the exception of MNSSHP on the 23rd. DD12 is a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and it would be excellent if we could possibly pop over to where they are competing and watch some.

Just looked online and the Tae Kwon Do Fall Nationals will be at the Sports Complex from Oct 18th through the 22nd. DD12 just realized what I was typing and just asked me to change our travel dates :rotfl2: I THINK NOT! Looking forward to a "quieter" week (?)

Sometimes they close off some wings of certain hotels in off season. I guess saves money on electricity, etc... So just because a hotel says booked. It may really be only 1/2 booked. I found this out a few years ago when I stayed at Port Orleans.
Also depends on where you book from. I looked at travelocity and also expedia just to see what hotels were available in October when I'm going and most rooms that they are allowed to sell (from those websites) were all booked.

Ah ha, they close off parts of the resorts. Those sneaky Disney people. I asked my travel agent today to again look and see if French Quarter is available, but no joy. I only hope that we can get our room requests. Thanks to all who responded to my post. :goodvibes

Mid-October is a poplar Fall break for schools and attendance has been increasing over the years at this time because of Fall breaks.

Yes, I've had the same experience trying to book 10/19-10/24. I had booked the Poly but couldn't justify the $$$ with all I spent on F & W events (figure with all that wine, I'll be lucky to FIND the room :rotfl2: ).

We're staying at POR. We plan on going to several of the F and W events as well. If you end up on the Riverside side we'll redirect you to the FQ side. We may need the same (in reverse). :rotfl2:

There's also a major medical convention 10/23 - 10/27 at the Orange Co. Convention Center. By major, I mean thousands of physicians from all over the US, Canada and a few foreign countries. It's only held in Orlando every 3 or 4 years or so, and it's a big draw for docs AND their families. Guess where a lot of them want to stay?

We haven't missed this convention in Orlando in about 20 years. We're DVC so we already had it covered, but I still made ressies at 11 months out. With F&W and lots of other conventions, I knew it would be busy. Golf tee times are filling up fast, too. (Like THAT'S a big surprise, huh?)

This is the one Disney trip we can actually use for some tax write-off! Or part of it, at least.

I am staying at the Swan Oct. 9-16. I tried to add 1 more night at the end of my trip, but both the Swan and Dolphin are booked for the Gartner convention. In fact, all of the Epcot resorts, 3 of the moderates (not POFQ), and All-Star Sports house convention attendees. So...I'll be moving elsewhere my last night!

Often when a large convention is taking place at a hotel conference center, the hotel will block off and hold rooms open for the convention guests to call and reserve by a certain date. If rooms in the block are left over after that date, (usually 3-4 weeks before the conference), they will be released from the block and be available to the general public. It might help to check back closer to your dates...

My sister is going Oct. 5-12. So far, CR and GF are totally booked, and very little available at WL, AKL. They'll probably go to POR. :confused3

We've had this problem several times recently. However, don't give up. We kept calling back about once a week and have always gotten exactly what we wanted.

Boy life really sucks..The average Joe has to fight, scratch, and claw just to save up enough money to squeeze a Disney trip into the budget…while rich doctors get to go and use part of it as a tax write-off. (No offense DisFlan…I don’t have a problem with you, just the system…lol).

Huh?! What is “fall break”?! I thought T-giving break was supposed to be the fall break. It’s no wonder kids have to start school in mid-august these days…they get all these darn “breaks”. I know when I was growing up, we never had fall breaks, or spring breaks…It was T-giving, X-mas and the occasional 1 day holiday.

Trust me, not all doctors are rich (my husband works for the VA.) And we have to pay it out before we can get any of it back. He's required to attend a certain number of conferences every year. Every few years, we luck out and have the main convention in Orlando. For the most part, conferences are BO-ring - and expensive.

But this one IS in Orlando, and I'll take Disney however I can get it!

How many different conferences run in Oct? The one my husband is attending is for the computer field.
