But I wouldn't expect more than what I paid for nor would I ask for it. That was part of what I was getting to. And to me this is small stuff - even it would have happened to me. I'd be happy getting dollar for dollar back but I would feel bad asking for more than that.

Someone posted earlier that they would never stay in a Value Resort because it was beneath them. They made reference that they would not stay in one even if it was free and made some reference to their $7,000 cruise and so on. I think attitudes like that are the ones who appreciate nothing. Most of us have to work our butts off and save for a vacation.
I work my tail off year long, I save, and I penny pinch so that my son and I can take a vacation once a year. True we have to stay at off site hotels and yes we are in a Cat 11 room but my son has never been and will never be taught to be a snob. I work overtime and save my tax refunds so that we can afford a vacation. It is not handed to me on a silver platter...

You are not a snob. People have different values in life. It doesn't make a difference IMO if we stay at a value or a luxurious resort because I am a SAHM and we can still afford vacations but I can be the one who raises my son. We worked our tails off too to get "set up" so to speak and live in suburban NY with one income but we did it. I also worked 2 jobs back in the day (lol) to pay for college etc. So I guess everyone has different values to stuff in their life. Personally I need more time with my family that is why we set up our life to have one provider. But I digress....No one is either a snob or less then because of how they chose to vacation.
I think the wording of "beneath" them is what got the thread boiling. No matter how I chose to spend $$ I would never look down on others because of where they want to stay.
And just for the record I know you didn't imply that with your post about your vacation habits. You don't like the value resorts and I can understand totally.

It was me that posted I wouldn't stay in a value resort. I don't like them. They are uncomfrotable to me. So why would I stay in one? I'd rather stay HOME than stay someplace uncomfortable. To me, going on vacation is going someplace comfortable and relaxing, and I'd rather vacation less often in nicer accomodations.
I've worked hard to get to where I am in my life. I've had times when I had 35 cents to my name, and ten days until the next paycheck.
I worked hard at two jobs, one f/t and one p/t while carrying a f/t course load in college. I paid for my own education, and had the student loans to show for it. I had to go to college on the seven year plan, because I was so broke a few times that it was either take a semester off to work and save a little money and get caught up on bills, or live in a cardboard box. I drove a twelve year old rust bucket of a Chevette with a hunk of 2x4 propping up the broken front headlight that I bought for $50.
The year after we got married, DH tok a year off of work to go back to school for his masters. I worked two jobs to support us during that time. We had about $2000 in the bank. By the time he was done, we had nothing in the bank and credit card debt, plus student loans. We worked hard to pay it off. We also worked hard at our jobs, and finally have good jobs with good incomes that allow us to afford some perks. The student loans and credit cards are paid off. We have money in the bank and well funded retirement accounts.
And I STILL WORK TWO JOBS!!! I do so to have the extras like being able to cruise in a cat 3. And trust me, I work my butt off at that job. I also shop at sales, use coupons, and buy a lot of store brand groceries.
So if you think that prefering to stay in a comfortable hotel or stay at home makes me a snob, then I guess it does. I don't look at it that way. I look at living a lifestyle that I can afford to live. I recall in the "poor years" hoping that someday we'd be able to vacation to nice places. But I never thought of anyone who was able to do so as a snob. It was the way the luck fell, and it just made me work harder to achive more in life.
You took the post out of context anyhow--the person I was responding to seemed to feel that if they put everyone displaced from the Wonder up at the All-Stars and gave them LOS passes, they'd all be happy. People who had booked suite level accomodations onboard, people who already had annual passes. People who lived in Florida and were regular visitors to WDW weren't going to be happy with a solution like that. My point was that a generic solution like that wasn't going to make everyone happy, and in some cases it was only going to add salt to the wound.
If DCL had cancelled the public sailing sue to Norwalk, equipment problems, or something like that beyond their control, I'd be much more sympathetic. But they are displacing quite a few people for no reason other than greed. And that's simply shameful.

Andy, I sure wasn't offended.
Just feeling bad about what you were feeling.
And again, I too feel very badly about those whose cruises are now all messed up. I hope it all works out to the best!
