Thanks, I do appreciate that. I just didn't want to get bombarded with PM's asking me questions when I wouldn't be able to answer people - I've had that happen before. Thanks again

I don't recall anyone who WAS bumped asking for more than they paid for.

For the last time - I did not say anyone DID ask that got bumped but there are MANY on this post that have said they would ask for above and beyond or thing about it. Why does it keep getting drudged up and I keep being the target? Can't I make an opinion at all on here??? Apparently NOT! My point was those that have made assumptions if it were them!!!!! THAT'S IT! PERIOD! END IT!

I not once said ANYONE made that comment specifically. But people have made comments about it. And what I was referring to was more than what I paid for my cruise, asking for more than a room that would be available, etc.!

Someone posted earlier that they would never stay in a Value Resort because it was beneath them. They made reference that they would not stay in one even if it was free and made some reference to their $7,000 cruise and so on. I think attitudes like that are the ones who appreciate nothing. Most of us have to work our butts off and save for a vacation.

I work my tail off year long, I save, and I penny pinch so that my son and I can take a vacation once a year. True we have to stay at off site hotels and yes we are in a Cat 11 room but my son has never been and will never be taught to be a snob. I work overtime and save my tax refunds so that we can afford a vacation. It is not handed to me on a silver platter...

It was me that posted I wouldn't stay in a value resort. I don't like them. They are uncomfrotable to me. So why would I stay in one? I'd rather stay HOME than stay someplace uncomfortable. To me, going on vacation is going someplace comfortable and relaxing, and I'd rather vacation less often in nicer accomodations.

I've worked hard to get to where I am in my life. I've had times when I had 35 cents to my name, and ten days until the next paycheck.

I worked hard at two jobs, one f/t and one p/t while carrying a f/t course load in college. I paid for my own education, and had the student loans to show for it. I had to go to college on the seven year plan, because I was so broke a few times that it was either take a semester off to work and save a little money and get caught up on bills, or live in a cardboard box. I drove a twelve year old rust bucket of a Chevette with a hunk of 2x4 propping up the broken front headlight that I bought for $50.

The year after we got married, DH tok a year off of work to go back to school for his masters. I worked two jobs to support us during that time. We had about $2000 in the bank. By the time he was done, we had nothing in the bank and credit card debt, plus student loans. We worked hard to pay it off. We also worked hard at our jobs, and finally have good jobs with good incomes that allow us to afford some perks. The student loans and credit cards are paid off. We have money in the bank and well funded retirement accounts.

And I STILL WORK TWO JOBS!!! I do so to have the extras like being able to cruise in a cat 3. And trust me, I work my butt off at that job. I also shop at sales, use coupons, and buy a lot of store brand groceries.

So if you think that prefering to stay in a comfortable hotel or stay at home makes me a snob, then I guess it does. I don't look at it that way. I look at living a lifestyle that I can afford to live. I recall in the "poor years" hoping that someday we'd be able to vacation to nice places. But I never thought of anyone who was able to do so as a snob. It was the way the luck fell, and it just made me work harder to achive more in life.

You took the post out of context anyhow--the person I was responding to seemed to feel that if they put everyone displaced from the Wonder up at the All-Stars and gave them LOS passes, they'd all be happy. People who had booked suite level accomodations onboard, people who already had annual passes. People who lived in Florida and were regular visitors to WDW weren't going to be happy with a solution like that. My point was that a generic solution like that wasn't going to make everyone happy, and in some cases it was only going to add salt to the wound.

If DCL had cancelled the public sailing sue to Norwalk, equipment problems, or something like that beyond their control, I'd be much more sympathetic. But they are displacing quite a few people for no reason other than greed. And that's simply shameful.

You are not a snob. People have different values in life. It doesn't make a difference IMO if we stay at a value or a luxurious resort because I am a SAHM and we can still afford vacations but I can be the one who raises my son. We worked our tails off too to get "set up" so to speak and live in suburban NY with one income but we did it. I also worked 2 jobs back in the day (lol) to pay for college etc. So I guess everyone has different values to stuff in their life. Personally I need more time with my family that is why we set up our life to have one provider. But I digress....No one is either a snob or less then because of how they chose to vacation.

I think the wording of "beneath" them is what got the thread boiling. No matter how I chose to spend $$ I would never look down on others because of where they want to stay.

And just for the record I know you didn't imply that with your post about your vacation habits. You don't like the value resorts and I can understand totally.

Can anyone report what deal DCL gave them for the cancellation?

One person posted the got a really good deal in the negotiations for compensation. Anyone care to offer what theirs was?

Does anyone know the identity of the charter?

Thank you!

And for the record, I did not, have not, and would NEVER say that any hotel accomodations were "beneath" me. Well, OK, maybe this one place up near Catskill, NY--it's a bar that has a few cabins out back that rent for $12 a night with no housekeeping unless you pay extra!

There's a HUGE difference between not feeling comfortable with a particular type of accomodation, and feeling that those who stay there are "beneath" me.

It's no different than people who stay off-site saying that people who stay on-site are snobs.

It's a matter of personal choice and comfort levels.

Genie, check up on about page 3 or 4... my full details are posted. I'm in a unique situation in that I used DVC points to pay for the cruise, so I had to work with both DCL and DVC to get things straightened out. I don't know specifically what has been done for those who booked directly with DCL.

I apologize if my post upset you and you really did not need to explain yourself or justify yourself to me. I along with most others here are well aware of having to work 2 jobs while going to college.

If you can afford the nicer things in life then by all means enjoy them! But I did take offense to the post as it sounded like you were above what most of us can afford. If that was not your intent and I took your comments out of context then I apologize.

I do not see a vacation through my eyes and I really do not care what accommodations we have. The vacations we take are mainly for my son to enjoy and for me to get a break from work.... I am a single dad and have only one income to live off and plan vacations with. My son really does not care if it is a 5 star or a 3 star hotel. All I care about is that it is clean, comfortable and that I get to see the smile on his face!

I choose to skimp on my vacation hotel and cruise rooms and put that saved money into my sons college fund. Sure I could get a higher cat room on the cruise and I could even stay in a resort hotel if I cut back on his education fund. I am not willing to do that and like I said I have just the one income to use.....

Andy, I sure wasn't offended.

Just feeling bad about what you were feeling.

And again, I too feel very badly about those whose cruises are now all messed up. I hope it all works out to the best!

Thanks, and right back at ya!!! :flower3:

Does anyone agree with me that some peoples feelings are getting hurt within this thread? I love these boards and that is NOT what they are for. I have been sitting back reading each post.

I feel sorry for the people that have been inconvienced. All of us feel sorry for them. It was not a Disney thing to do.

Now, it is time to move on ::yes::

Have a good evening all!!

I agree with Hopelea. I thought I was on the debate board for a minute! And I'm afraid of the debate board:scared1: :scared1:

I just wanted to say I was sorry for the people who were disappointed and I hope everything turns out for the best for them. Here's some pixie dust for you. :sunny:

The posters here who did have their cruise cancelled are amazing. You guys handled it so well. I would have had a heart attack. Just schlepping all our family to vacations such as this is such an incredible amount of work. Arranging, checking, car rental, hotel, flights, bird sitter, neighbor notification, and on and on... And it really does take a huge amount of time, DCL isn't paying for that.

And certainly it has been said, what a really strange thing for ANY cruise line to do. It seems to me that travel insurance companies would not even want to insure DCL if they keep pulling stunts such as this one. Disney has made so many short-sighted changes recently. I wonder if it would have happened if there had not been a recent change in management. It boded well for California but stinks for DCL.

Probably it affects few of those who do not plan way ahead as do DISers (that is why we are all here, right?). But we are their best ambassadors, and free ones at that. I spend plenty of time helping the other families we know when they say they are going to Disney. Bad, bad DCL.

Many Colorado schools have October breaks, we have cruised and visited WDW many times then for just that reason. Disney has gone to great lengths to lure people in in October, extending Food and Wine Fest and all the MNSSHP dates. This will make me EVEN MORE afraid of Disney in October, always wondering if our plans will be cancelled. Having been in the middle of a fall WDW vacation and having the hours unexpectedly cut and Early Entry go poof, all my careful scheduling out the window was unpleasant, made me "abitjaded". We were thinking of moving our January cruise to October, but now I don't trust them. Sheesh, Disney has no mercy on the obsessive October planner.

I have to agree with the last poster...kudos for the cancelled cruisers and the gracious way that they handled/accepted the lemons that were given to them and seemed to make lemonade.

While I don't think that the cruise should have been cancelled to anyone but those on the "charter" and I would have been upset if I were on that cruise, I have to applaud the gracious way that these cancelled cruisers handled their individual situations. Disney probably wishes more people were like you! However, I do have to agree with wdwguru..don't think that you should be charged higher points for the weekend since this was no fault of your own (I am also a DVC owner).

BTW, wdwguru...we are going to be in Park City, Utah for a week in August...could you pm or email me with any suggestions on what shouldn't be missed on this vacation since this will be our first time in Utah...spending one week in Colorado and one week in Utah. Thanks for any help you could give me!

How about just take a deep breath!!!! It is NOT the end of the world - it IS an inconvenience. Frankly, whether it be Give Kids the World or the Ford Motor Company who has chartered the ship is REALLY immaterial - it has happened - get ON with it!! Not at all necessary to beat a dead horse, to look for any and all compensation or to dig out the 'name' of the company who booked the ship in good faith. I certainly hope they don't receive hate mail as a result of this but I am sure they will. There is much overreaction. It happens!!!! Our budget did not support a DCL cruise this year, hopefully it will next. If problems occur, we WILL adjust. I will just be grateful to be able to go at all. We work, dream, save, and plan for just such a magical time, and if we stumble upon the way for WHATEVER reason - we will survive!!!!

I WILL SURVIVE
At first I was afraid I was petrified
Kept thinkin' I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights
Thinkin' how you did me wrong
And I grew strongv And so you're back from outer space
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed that stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I'd've known for just one second you'd back to bother me

Go on now, go walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
Did I crumble
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
Oh no, not I! I will survive
Oh as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live,
I've got all my love to give and I'll survive,
I will survive, hey, hey...
It took all the strength I had not to fall apart
Kept trying' hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart,
And I spent oh so many nights
Just feeling sorry for myself. I used to cry
But now I hold my head up high
And you see me somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person still in love with you,
And so you feel like droppin' in
And just expect me to be free,
Now I'm savin' all my lovin' for someone who's lovin' me
Go on now..

 :p

I WILL SURVIVE
At first I was afraid I was so confused
Kept thinkin' I could never live without my Wonder cruise
But then I spent so many nights
in substandard lodging among the throng
And I grew strong
And so you offer to appease my face
I get a call to tell me you've sold my space
I should have read the contract
I should not have signed the bottom line
If I knew for one second you'd call me back to hear me whine

Go on now, sail out the port
Just cast off now
'Cause I'm not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with your ruse
Did I grumble
Did you think I'd accept just any cruise
Oh no, not I! I will survive
Oh as long as I know how to cruise I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to cruise
I've got my vacation time to use and I'll survive
I Will survive, ahoy, ahoy
It took all the strength I had not to scream and yell
Kept trying' hard not to tell that poor CM to go to hell,
And I spent oh so many nights
Just feeling sorry for myself. I used to cry
But now I hold my head up high
And you see in me somebody new
I'm not that naive little guest still trusting you,
And so you want me back again
With reimbursement of my fee
Now I'm saving all my vacation for someone who cares for me
Go on now...
