Man have I been busy and looks like I need to catch up. I'm LOVING the Ghost Ship name.....I think that's absolutly wonderful. I can honestly say that I'm having a hard time waiting for this trip. I need a vacation NOW especially with a stuffy head in Rainy South Louisiana.....where is sunshine? Warm weather? realxing beach? nice man with my drink that has an umbrella?

What are these things called warm weather and sunshine?:lmao:

The only thing that gets me through the winter is planning our next vacation, even if it is months off. And it looks like it is going to be a looooong winter.

We are so looking forward to trip! We are the Newman Family from Pearisburg, VA. The following are the ages as of the 2010 cruise:) :

Me (Amanda) 32
DH (Scott) 34
DD (Sydney) 13
DD (Abigail) 9
DS (Travis) 7
DS (Trevor) 7

The children can not wait and will be so excited!

Welcome Newman Family!!! Our daughters will be the same age at cruise time - 9..... :scared1: Wow..... what a thought!

Anyway, welcome to the board!!! It is going to be a great cruise!:cool1:

Hello everyone. I am trying to convince Dh to book this cruise when we are onboard.

We are taking our first DCL cruise on the Wonder in a few weeks.

We haven't even left and the kids are already begging for another DCL trip.
I printed out some navigators and they were excited by what they saw.

DH would love to be in Key West on Halloween for FRIGHT NIGHT.

Wait until DH sees Castaway Cay. He'll be rebooking then.:beach: Mine was resistant until we were sitting at Serenity Bay. That's when he told me to book again. Have a wonderful time. Please let us know all about it when you get back.

I'm glad you like the ghost ship name (maybe a picture of a ghost with Mickey ears as a mascot????). It's sleet and freezing rain here in PA. today.:cold: I wish I were sitting on deck with a Mahito in hand right now.:drinking1

HE is talking on the phone to our friends right now trying to convince them to come with us. He said that wee will book on board:cool1:

They went on a cruise with us last Jan. and had a great time. They wanted to go with us on the Wonder but, they are going to WDW for 12 nights in May.

Our original plan was to see if DCL was worth the extra $$. But, he is very interested in going to fulfill his bucket list fo Fright Night.

I love cruising with friends. We did that last time. This time it looks like we're soloing. Can you giving some details bout Key West Fright Night? I've never heard of it.:confused3

I wanted to add that we usually travel with a group. This is are first" just us cruise" in a 8 years. DH and I went on HAL when I was preg. with DD.

DH is on the phone now with another friend.

Hi, this is BlueMarlin when I am not the Designated Hitter. I heard the question is what is Fright Night Fantasy Fest and I was just reminded this is a family site. The short answer is that it is one of the best people watching opportunities ever, but put the kids on the boat before dark.

Fantasy Fest is one of the top crazy parties of the world, perhaps mentioned in the same sentence as Mardi Gras or Carnivale. Key West downtown is jammed with people ala Bourbon Street and the costumes (or lack there-of) are insane. There is a parade one of the days and in 2010 they are extending it for 10 days with the finale on Halloween night, the day we are in port.

The crazy part is in the costumes. People dress in mature costumes like you might see at Trashy Lingerie. :cheer2: They also dress in fairly sophisticated decked out costumes :pirate: , or silly ones . The more risque crowd is also there and they must have forgotten their costume :laundy: as many of them are made of body paint and minimal cloth or none at all. The police try to enforce the smallest modicum of modesty, but that is it. For reference see the sports illustrated swimsuit issue of years past for painted bikinis. The Fantasy Fest website does not really show the minimalist costumes. I will say that some of the exotic painting is VERY well done and in cool themes.

I'll have DH tell you about it.

Question?
What benefits do we get if we book on board?

By booking on board (like we did for this cruise!:thumbsup2 ) you get a 10% discount, as well as if you're booking far enough in advance, the lowest prices on top of that. So this cruise in Oct will be right after they have released the new prices for 2012- I'm hoping to book on one of the new ships!

And FWIW, if it's Fantasy Fest in Key West when we are there, my kids will not be getting off the boat. It's a VERY adult party- and I don't mean Palo adult, I mean xxx adult.

Oh- stsomewhere? Once you are on the cruise, it will be easy to get DH to rebook- you'll LOVE DCL, and you can only get the discount while you're onboard- you can also tell him you can always cancel it later at no penalty, as long as you do it before the final payments are due. My DH went for it, and we had no intention of rebooking when we went on our first cruise this past Nov! Good luck!

Do most of the fright night activities happen at night? The magic leaves port at about 7:30 pm in Key west-

darn, I forgot about that. Yeah, it departs at 7:00pm. And here after you guys all got my hopes up :rotfl2:

Dh pulled up pictures of FAntasty fest/fright night. There are daylight pictures

I think that most of the crazy stuff and people will be gone since 31st is the last night of the 10 day event. People will have to go back to work.

Dh is talking about booking and is very interested.
I read on Disboard about 10% off and $200 OBC for booking on board.

We thought that we would take advantage of kids free on a 3 night to see if DCL is worth it.(Plus, we haven't cruise in 12 months)

We had a 7 night boooked for Aug.
We canceled it and transfered the deposit to the 3 night.

The kids really want to go and visit my Dad in Texas in August since we haven't been there in a few years. So, this will work out great.

Thanks for all of the info about Fright Night. Wow! I'd never heard of it. I can see why it might be on BlueMarlin's bucket list. ;)

Another thing that was offered when we booked on board is 50% off the deposit. We also got to pick our cabin (lots to choose from that far ahead).:thumbsup2

Yea- we had the 50% off deposit and room credit, too!:thumbsup2 I was sooooooooooooooooo happy he said yes!!

And I still will not bring my kids off the boat, even if it is the last day. Both times I have been in Key West, many, MANY people in town have asked if we were at fantasy fest (both times have been 1st week of november), and they ALWAYS say don't bring the kids- they say it's a blast, but not appropriate for children (people have sex all over the place). People get crazy!

50% off deposit. That is a great bonus, too.

Yes- it would have been nuts to pass it up, because all of us were in heaven on that ship, so hopefully you'll have the same experience and DH will be all for it!! I have to say- of the Dissers on our cruise, 3 families rebooked for this week- but many, many more families booked for other weeks (I am especially envious of the ones who booked the northern capitals cruise, THAT looks incredible!:worship: ). Good luck!!

please don't forget the golden rule -

anyone caught calling our vessel a "boat" as opposed to a "ship" has to buy drinks for anyone that notices

and the count shall begin now . . .
:thumbsup2
