Oct 30 2010 7 Night Western (PART 2)

Hi folks, new here at DIS -- discovered this place while looking for info on our upcoming cruise :).

We are:

Me (Emily), DH (Keiri), DD (Raina, 6), and DS (Kasen, 1)

This will be our first Disney cruise, but DH and I (and DD when she was an infant), took a Princess Cruise in 2004.

After spending some time reading the DISboards, I'm amazed by the community and wealth of information here :worship:!!

I see we've missed some deadlines, such as to order lanyards, but we'll likely sign up for the DIS TOT. Oh shoot, gotta remember to PM someone for the roll call!

Cheers,
emz325 (Emily)

I did some more reading and found that some CM's say it can be used as a tracking device and other CM's say no, it only tells them if a child is IN the club or Out. So who knows. Check out the photo of the bracelet I posted on the previous page, originally posted by another Diser to show the details of it. I think it's not so bad at all, and you can always have a child wear it around their ankle. I'll give DS7 the choice of wrist or ankle.

As for Door signs....Hmmmm, I've been busy making them for others, I haven't time to make some yet for myself! Better get working on that!

I have started to gather graphics for my signs but got as far as a countdown for my office and have not had anytime.:surfweb:

Thanks for the picture! The bracelet is.... bulky.....but I like the idea of "decorating" it! :goodvibes

There seems to be alot of disent as to what these bracelets actually do... so I guess we will just find out when we get there!

PUDO, sorry to hear of your experience with the clubs/bracelet on your previous cruise. On the one hand, she is 2 years older, and at an age where they can more often be reasoned with. Hopefully if explained what the bracelet is for, and also letting her know she can take it off when she leaves the club, that will help. Also, if not done before, go through the navigator with her, naming the choices of activities and having her choose a few that she is interested in. I hope to this time take my son only during those activities he chooses.
Your daughter has a very good memory, but hopefully she'll understand that what was then, can be different this time around.
My DS7 loved the cruise last year, but has for some reason developed recently a fear of boats and even though he doesn't REALLY know about this trip, but again today, while watching the last of Phil and Emma's cruise video, DS says again, "I'm Never go on that boat again". I don't understand why, and when I suggest that if we go on a family vacation next year on the NEW ship, he'll come to, and he says "Well I'm NOT going". When I tell him he'll HAVE to because he certainly isn't staying home alone, he says "No, I'll stay with Nana". And then when I mentioned that maybe Nana will come on the boat with us, he says "Well I'm STILL NOT GOING". Is this a real fear or is it simply a power struggle? I'm not sure, but hoping I won't have to carry him kicking and screaming onto the Ship! LOL (we would be escorted off like they would if he did this on a plane, would they? :rotfl:)

Welcome! :welcome:
Glad to have you on "board"!!!

I totally agree with what you are saying, but my 6 year old will not wear the bracelet. After the last incident with the regular bracelets on our 15 day repo two years ago I'll be lucky to get her near the kid's club. Wearing that bracelet is not happening.

Unfortunately, this is a very sore subject, our 15 day cruise was completely turned upside-down when the CMs at the kid's club wouldn't relent putting the bracelet on her wrist and then on her ankle. The only offered to put a sticker on her back (which she wouldn’t wear anyway) after the damage was done and they had scared the heck out of her.

When Sarah left the club on the first day she refused to walk anywhere near the place. We had to cancel all our adult activities, it is something two years later that she still remembers, talks about, and saddens me that she has that memory.

Sorry for the vent

Hey it's good to vent, I know reasoning with young ones are tough:headache:
but, maybe if you sit and talk to her about the new bracelets, that now they can scan you in and out make it like it is a new experience for her. Let her know some kids like her, did not like the old bracelets for the same reason she didn't and Disney made new ones even better. Get some Disney stickers for her to decorate it.

You never know until you bring it up and make it like Disney made sure what happened to her on your previous cruise, they want to let her help them out by decorating it and tell her the CM can immediately call you faster if she needs you.

Well I hope you can get this worked out, it is so hard for us parents to see our kids missing fun things when they are afraid. Good Luck and see you on the cruise!!!!:dance3:

We just went to a water park on Saturday. that required paper wrist bands. The only way should would wear it was to make the bracelet large enough to slip on and off when she wanted. Thanks, but I don't think much has changed in two years. Perhaps, if she makes a friend on the ship that might help.

:welcome: !! So glad you found the DIS, and this Meets board!! This is going to be a Fabulous vacation I think for ALL!

School starts for us here in two weeks from today. Trying to figure out when to tell the teachers, or at least give them the heads up! My plan is to give them the heads up and then two weeks before, send a note or make phone call, reminding them and giving exact dates and a request for work to be done on our way there and back. This reminds, me, that DS13's school has teachers there this week, and I've been waiting all summer to talk with someone about his English Mark!! Wish me luck there! :)

Here's a Konk Kooler for you ;) they are delish :thumbsup2

That's the only way I'll put them on and I'm a grown adult! I feel trapped (can't explain it) and I NEED to take it off as soon as possible, so with the kids I make sure theirs can slip off also. Having it on my wrist too tight sets off panic alarms in my head. The last time we were at MVMCP the CMs looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I needed it VERY loose!

OK gang!

Important information here!

First off a reminder that PAYMENT for LANYARDS is due absolutely no later than SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 5. That is just a little over 10 days away. If you have ordered lanyards and have not gotten a PM from me that says "Response Required" and has the info in it on how to pay, please get with me ASAP- post here, send me a PM, or email - nenner1 at yahoo dotcom.

I will be placing the order very soon! If I don't get your payment in time, it is possible your lanyards may not be ordered, so please, please touch base with me ASAP.

I will send out a last chance reminder via PM in a few days!!!

Also, I have had a few requests and seen some mentions from the newbies (welcome all, btw!)...so here is the deal, if you want lanyards and can pay me immediately via Pay Pal, then I may be able to accommodate you. Please post here, send me a message or PM right away, because once I make the order I won't be able to add anymore unless someone drops out.

This post-deadline-second-chance cutoff for add ons may come abruptly and before the payment deadline, because as soon as I clear payments and can make the order I will be, since we are encroaching on 200! and that is a whole lot of tags to make. So if you want them, please don't hesititate.

Thanks all for your understanding! :thumbsup2

Now, on to the Trick or Treatt!

Previously we had decided to not have a sign up deadline for this event. I am afraid with the amount of planning I have put into it, and how we decided to implement it, I am going to have to put a cut off on sign ups so I can ensure we have time to gather the needed materials, know how much candy and goodies to buy, make clues, etc.

So, with much aplomb I announce:

SIGN UPS FOR THE DIS TRICK-OR-TREAT WILL CLOSE ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 5, 2010!

If you have not signed up, please post here or send me a PM. Include the amount of children, their ages, and gender. Also please include your stateroom if you have it since I will be using that to check in your family.

And we still need about 3 or 4 more volunt"ears" to man the trick-or-treat stations. If you are interested, please let me know. And thank you to those who have already come forward to assist, we couldn't do it without you.

If you have previously signed up and want to verify that I have you down as participating, please post here in the thread or by PM to me. Reminders never hurt! :thumbsup2

OK, that's it. Go on and blow up my PM box. LOL!;)

Thanks, :) Jen

Wow! You hit the nail right on the head. As I explained in the main forum, Sarah goes to a Catholic school that requires a uniform. In the colder months they are suppose to wear a long-sleeved shirt. Sarah refuses because the cuffs at the end of the sleeve wrap around her wrist which she can't stand so she wears a short-sleeved shirt all year around.

I know that other parents at the school are probably saying to themselves, "What is wrong with Jeff and Missy"? Don't they know enough to dress their child for the cold weather? :goodvibes

Hi Jen,

I want to confirm here that we would like to order 4 lanyards.

I also want to confirm our participation in the DIS TOT.

I'm so glad I found this place/board, just in the nick of time!!

Being a newbie, with just 1 (2 including this one) under my belt, I won't be able to PM you, but will send you an email, right away, to deal with payment for the lanyards (I don't even know the cost details and such).

TIA,
Emily

I think I get it now :) I'm exactly like that with something around my neck. I can't wear Choker necklaces nor turtlenecks (thank goodness they are out of style now) A scarf is ok as long as it's loose!

Pudo, did you DD otherwise like the club, or perhaps that incident as you said, overshadowed any possibility of enjoyment. Explain to the CM's she has a sensitivity about things snugly around her wrist like some people do their necks and maybe they put it on loosely so it can slip off when she leaves like you mentioned at the water park. Do you think she'd be the same with it around her ankle? Take some stickers and tell her she can use those to decorate it her way, to make it her own. Perhaps talk with the CM's about it without her there at first and work something out with them. I'm sure other than the bracelet, she's at an age where she'd love some of the activities in the club. :)

The first day we were there for about an hour or so. She had some fun, but most of the time it was her struggling to pull the paper wrist band off. The persistency of the CMs to put it on her wrist or ankle became too much for her. I mean, this is suppose to be a fun kids club, and she had never been faced with this before.

On the 10th day of the cruise one of the managers from the club came up to visit and talk her into coming back to the club. It took her about an hour to get her to leave the stateroom and go down to deck 5.

Sarah stood outside the club like a child afraid to walk into a haunted house. She finally was talked inside and started to have some fun. They didn't put a wrist band or sticker or anything on her and everything was fine. Missy decided to get some air and a cup of tea, it had been 10 days and we had yet to have any time to do what we hoped to so I gave Missy a break, she left while I stayed behind, but out of sight.

About an hour into this all was going well, but when I and the manager weren't paying attention a CM who wasn't aware of the situation tried to put a wrist band on her. Well, needless to say that was the end of that and we were gone again, this time we weren't ever coming back.

All in all, we probably spent 2+ hours in the club during the 15 days.

I'm hoping that because of all the fun activities we've got planned that our kids will enjoy spending time with each other! Jeff, my two are the same age as Sarah so maybe we can coordinate some times when we get them together ..be it at a pool or the club. I completely understand what you are dealing with as one of my girls dealt with different sensory issues until quite recently.
