Oct. 16-23, 2010 - Bring Back the Magic

Aulani is opening August 29th, 2011. Frank & I have been talking about Sept or Oct 2012. I think Mary & Mark were also talking about that timeframe and I know that Mimi and Mack were interested as well.

We should get in contact with them and let them know we are all talking the idea. What do you think Kathy? I know it's early.

Hey!

Thanks for the info! :) Now I just need to convince the hubby to buy more points! LOL! I so want to go to Hawaii when it opens! We bought our points we have now resale. I would definitely do it again!

Sorry for the late response! Went out of town & couldn't get online. We have bought all of our additional points resale. They are much less expensive and that's the way to get your same home resort after DVC has sold out of it.

Wow, this thread sure has been busy while I wasn't looking - had a lot of reading up to do! Work is so busy at the moment, I can hardly wait to be on the ship!

But it is getting real close now, with less than eight weeks to go ... My Disney Cruise Line 2010 PassPorter book has finally arrived, and I am busy reading whenever I have the time. It is a good feeling though to find out that I have got so much of the planning covered already!

We'll be at BCV after the cruise too - we'll have to have a post cruise meet!!

We will be staying at BCV as well ... a post-cruise meet would be nice!

I'm wondering of they might not let us board a little early, since they don't have passengers disembarking from a previous cruise popcorn::

Along the same line, I am wondering whether the staterooms might not even already be ready when we board - after all, there hasn't been anybody sleeping in them the night before so there should not be so much last-minute cleaning going on, right?

 WOW ... another week has flown by! :goodvibes

We have . . ..

FRIDAY's until we sail :boat:

I think we'll just "single digit dance" our way to our sail date! ;)

Yayyy! :cheer2: I can almost believe this is really happening and not just some wild dream I have been dreaming for the last year and a half ;)

Do we have any tastings we want to do this year?? Beer, wine, tequila?

We have never been at a tasting but would love to try both the beer and the wine tastings. What do you have to do to participate - book some time in advance, or do you just show up at the time listed in the Navigator?

You book them at guest services, I believe the beer & wine are 15.00 a piece. We will have to get a time to do them together. They are fun in a group.

Yes absolutely, we would love that!

By the way, today has brought great news for me: In four weeks' time, DH and I are going to Papenburg to visit the Dream!
It is a three hours drive to the shipyard from where we live (and that is only if there is not too much of the usual traffic congestion, otherwise it's more ...) so we were never really quite decided on whether we wanted to go or not.
But then today I read here on the boards that the Dream will leave the shipyard on October 30, so our last chance to see her there is before our cruise.

So everything went really quickly from there: Phoned DH to speak about it,
did a bit of online research,
booked a hotel room in Papenburg for one night
and booked the shipyard tour for the two of us.

That way, we will have another short trip to look forward to even before our cruise, and we will see the Dream and the Disney exhibit at the shipyard! :dance3:

Well I am PO'd at DCL/DVC. We cannot pay off our Alaska cruise with points. Their allotted number of cabins for our sailing is full. She would not tell me how many rooms were allotted, it changes by sailing. They are so full of S*&^. They just want to make more money. We bought in specifically for cruising and now we can't use our points. I am sorry I ever recommended DVC to any one.

The Dream is being floated out of the drydock on the 30th.Shell be tied to the pier just outside the bldg for a few weeks doing somethings they cant do in the bldg like putting her antennae towers and radar towers on, as well as the black radio spirals that are on top of the funnels.Theyll also be doing some calibration and testing.Shell transit the Ems sometime mid Nov. and then shell do a few days to weeks of testing, come back to the other MW port on the ccost for final provisioning and officially signed over to Disney, then come home starting around Christmas.Shes due here the first week or so in Jan.

Typical Disney.Ive noticed that a lot lately about them. They are becoming more bottom lined then guest service and quality. The CFO all but said it in a interview with one of the local papers here in Orl.

:sad2: Sorry to hear that. Maybe if enough (DVC) people get upset, they might consider changing back :confused3

Without knowing how DVC works,(We live 30 minutes from the parks so it never really interested us other than seeing it in the parks) a thought just occured to me. Promotions has a big say on the ships, ticket prices and a few other things.Im wondering if they are up to something that hasnt been announced yet, but would certainly go hand in hand with my general opinion that Disney as a whole is not the same quality and guest experince company it was 10 or 15 years ago.

If nothing else, it would explain the number of rooms available for different things like the KSF,DVC members points, and special offers in general.

And speaking of special offers, the Florida resdients rates are out until Sept 30th now.

I just sent a rather nasty email to DVC. I think the more complaints they recieve the more likely they will change their policy. We still have time so lets just bombard them and that may help.;)

There is actually a whole thread where people are discussing this issue. I don't think promotions has anything to do with this. DVC is a different company than DCL. DVC pays DCL for the cabins it's members book. I think it's more likely that it was a change in policy on the DVC side, especially since the new ship is coming online next year. I'm guessing they don't make as much money when people use their DVC points for DCL, although it certainly does cost a lot of DVC points to pay for a cruise.

Also, DVC points are normally used at DVC resorts (BCV, BLT, AKV, BWV VWL, OKW, SSR, THV), so they don't enter into the available rooms picture; they book their own inventory. Not that you can't book a room at a non-DVC resort, it's just a lot more expensive, so most people don't. Also, DVC allows their rooms to be sold to regular guests, but only if they aren't sold out with DVC members.

This is going to get interesting... popcorn::

I think when we cruise in Oct there is going to be a few people going to the DVC meeting expressing there feelings. The way it sounds DVC and DCL are at odds. If there are new people on the cruise that want to become DVC members this problem will not help there sales pitch when they get wind of what is going on.

You are right. We will see what we can do to. I do not think they thought this through very well.

It has to happen before April and payment is due.
