Will the Oceaneer Lab beep us when DS10.5 arrives at the Lab? And when he's leaving? We may give him signout priviledges (if we have a choice) but would like to know where he is.

If he doesn't have sign in/out privileges, then you will have to take him to the Lab to sign in, so there would be no need to beep you. Your beeper/pager would be mainly for asking you to pick him up, etc.

If he has sign in/out privileges then you can request a page--these are text so it would say "I'm at club" or "I'm leaving the lab for the room now" He has to request this be done--they do not page automatically if they have sign out privileges. You may want to consider getting 2 way radios to keep in touch. It didn't work too well for us, but might for you.

We were on the 4/14 Wonder. My DS turned 11 the day we boarded. When registering him in the Lab I was told he would have sign in/sign out privileges no matter what. I insisted on being given one of the text beepers so he could notify me if he was leaving. I made sure the counselors would send the messages for him and I included these instructions on his registration form. He was extremely responsible, never had any problems with getting the messages sent, and was always where he said he would be when I checked on him. I personally believe 10-12 is too young for free run of the ship so I adapted their procedures to meet my family's needs.

On our May '01 MAGIC-al cruise our DD (then 12) was in the kids club (Common Grounds) and we decided not to give her sign in/out priveledges. This was much to her dismay I might add. We signed her in and she had us beeped (often a text message stating where to pick her up) in order to leave. When she was out of the club, we let her roam the ship with a group of DIS daughters and sons we had made friends with. We used the 2-way radios (Cobra brand) and kept in almost constant touch that way. We also gave her a curfew to follow. She had all meals with us as a family.

Our DS (then 7) was in the Oceaneer's Lab but often got "bored." He beeped us often and hung out with us when there wasn't an interesting activity (like making flubber) in the club.

I hope this is of some help to you. Enjoy your cruise!!

Howard
