Ocean View Disney Cruise or Balcony NCL?

Overall I love NCL (Getaway & Breakaway so much better for older kids than DCL). I also would never go DCL on a port-intensive cruise - kind of waste of money IMO. And having cruised Alaska twice - love a balcony. (I so enjoyed seeing whales early in the morning from my balcony.) And of course Glacier Bay beats Tracy Arm. For those reasons NCL should be a slam dunk. But....in this case I would recommend DCL because your kids are at a great Disney age (even for the shows) and the NCL port times are really terrible! I wouldn't be impressed with either the Wonder or an older, smaller NCL ship (sorry I missed which ship?). If it was just you and husband, hands-down, NCL. But keeping the kids happy always makes for a better vacation....and I think they'd enjoy DCL more.

I have to say I love the Disney Wonder! It is a beautiful and classic ship. One of our friends' kid exclaimed, upon boarding the boat and entering the atrium "this must be just like heaven."

We are going to go with Disney! Our plan is to fly into Seattle on Saturday morning and watch the Angles/Mariners game that day/night. We'll stay the night and then take an EARLY train on Sunday to Vancouver and enjoy the rest of the day there. Monday will be departure day and we'll return home late afternoon the following Monday.

We've never taken a vacation longer than 6 days so this will be quite the vacation for us! We don't usually have the time off to do it so I'm super excited for this and I know the boys will be overjoyed with the Disney aspect of the cruise.

Thank you everyone for the input!

DCL is just so much a different and better cruise. The Wonder has the style and lines of the classic liners of the 30,40 and 50.With a art devour designed interior with just enough of the Disney touches!
The CM are excellent and well trained both in service and safety. The food great (but being honest food is so subjective). The entertainment great and the kids club are et up to give the kids a great. time. So often we hear of parent having trouble getting the kids out of the clubs the are enjoying them so. add the characters and the over al Disney Magic and Pixie dust DCL cannot be beat.

The adult areas are well set apart and the clubs fun, however they do close around 2400 to 0200 so if your a late partier that is not a plus.

As to the balony, we found our selves on deck most of the time, so if the balaney is important to you that is of course something you and your Hubby will have to decide.

What ever you decide , enjoy your cruise!.........bring binoculars and of course a good camera with distance lens. Also if you have sound recording and if your lucky record the sound of the ice breaking up. Its amazing.
