I have always liked the Ocala area. My Mom grew up there and I spent many summers ther escaping the Great White North. Silver Springs Shores is a very nice area. I have an Aunt and Uncle living there now. The Schools Are good from what I understand but that was a few years ago. Same Aunt was a teacher/admin in the system for years. Gainville is only 30-45 min away. Ocala has really grown over the years it is pretty spread out. Hope that helps
Ocala is roughly 30 minutes from Gainesville via the interstate.
Ocala is also known by its nickname..Slocala because of all of the eldery people there.
It's nice enough I suppose. I know the superintendent of the schools and I think the schools are pretty decent...but then, I may be biased
Crime has been a problem of late....there was a report recently showing where it has risen...not sure what's up with that.
If you're interested in Gainesville, but just don't want to live there (understandable, the property taxes in Alachua County are the highest in the state) there are also nice places in the outlying areas to live
