Planning our two to three night family getaway for late Aug 2012. Can anyone recommend a clean hotel on the boardwalk, close to the rides? It doesn't have to be fancy, but I do want it to be nice.

Thanks!

Courtyard Marriott. It's on 15th St. I recommed that you stay north of 10th St. There is a boardwalk tram that you can take down to the rides. The nicer hotels are further up the boardwalk. Plus there are no street performers up there that may keep you awake at night.

We stayed at the Hilton this past August. I am not sure how many Hiltons there are but it isn't on the boardwalk (like 3 or 4 blocks up).

My sister drove to the boardwalk one night & took a walk to it in the am & one am they rented bikes but we didn't.

My kids were content wtih swimming in the pool & going to the beach. We did mini golf across the street from us & the go karts. Our car never left the spot we put it in.

We are planning a trip next summer but not at the Hilton (my sister had points & some free rewards nights so I got to use them). We are looking at the Holiday Inn (dh has points). It looks just like the Hilton, same pool but opposite. Most of the reviews on Trip Advisor are good. I am mainly going there because it is free to stay, they have a pool that my kids already love & there is a kitchen & it's on the beach.

As someone else said, you want to stay north of about 15th-20th or north. Being on the boardwalk...even in late Aug you will pay. To stay close to the rides (JollyRodgers at the Pier and Trimpers) you are going to come into a few iffy places, unless you have stayed in them before and know about them. Also the area of the boardwalk that you are talking about can get noisey late at night. Now there is nice hotels that are north of 15th street that are Ocean Front. You also have Jolly Rodgers on 30th st. So you don't have to be on the boardwalk to do rides. Myself I like Trimpers Rides more then Jolly Rodgers. Most hotels/motels in OC are closing up right now and rates for 2012 will be released in late Dec or early Jan. I would say look at trip advisor and each hotels website to get an idea of where you would like to stay and see what the websites say and then when new rates are released look to see who is the cheapest you are willing to pay. And as someone also said we do have the tram on the boardwalk and there is a bus system in OC so you do not really have to drive.

Glad to see someone else from my corner of the world on Dis!!!

From the Hilton the boardwalk is 5 blocks south. Really the boardwalk is not that bad to walk. It is only 2 1/2 miles one way. I walk it sometimes when I get done with work.

To me that is the only way to stay at the Hilton here in OC...even this time of year the rooms are a few hundrad dollars a night. Summer they can be upward of 500.00 a night! And lets not even get into the pent house---that is like 10,000.00 for the week (based on 2 people, extra people is more and it will hold up to 18 people I think someone said!!)!!!

What Holiday Inn are you looking at??? Even with your points I would try to book it ASAP. I have a friend that has their timeshare club thing and when he tried to book a room for a few nights and he was like 3 months out they told him they were sold out for the time fram he was looking to come in and stay.

I will give ya a little tip about the reward points and OC. Most chain hotels have to take the reward nights, but try not to because say you book the room for July 4th weekend and the motel was ocean front. The rack rate is say 299.99 a night plus tax for two people and you stay for 3 nights, now because you have the points you don't pay, but when corp. send the motel the money for that room they do not give the hotel 899.97 plus tax, the hotel is lucky if they get about 400.00 for the room including tax. Not your fault or anything, but I know some hotels do anything not to take the reward nights if they can help it.

We have stayed at Comfort Inn 5th st. and Park Place 2/3rd St

Both are on the boardwalk. We weren't looking for anything fancy and had no problems with noise from the boardwalk. It was easier with small kids to be able to just walk the boardwalk at night and go back to the room/not worrying about the tram, etc.

We did not choose oceanfront at comfort inn- oceanside and oceanblock are just fine for us and cheaper. The prices drop later in Aug once kids are going back to school.

Have fun and enjoy the area!

That must be the Holiday Inn and Suites on 17th St. We have stayed there before and LOVED it!!!!

Thats where I was going to suggest, it would be tad cheaper than the Hilton but owned by the same people. Very well run hotels. :goodvibes

My DH and I stayed there our wedding night, even in October it was lovely!

:thumbsup2 We were booked there this past summer with another family but my friend was undergoing chemo so we had to cancel. Anyway, my friends go every year and LOVE it. I hope to go next summer with my friend as long as she is up to it.
