Observations, things I saw and wish I didn't

I do admit that the dress and behavior and demeanor of the crowd at WDW was many notches above the crowd at our local Six Flags. When I go to Six Flags I always wonder where all these folks COME FROM. In any crowd you will see weird clothes and behavior. Makes life interesting. DD12 was exceedingly grossed out at Storm Along Bay by all the ladies "who still thought they had it" (in her words) - wearing tiny bikinis when they really really shoudln't have been.

I thought your post was wonderful Rileyroosmom!! I totally enjoyed it....There is another thread on this very topic-about people becoming more and more rude on the boards. People, including myself, are afraid to post because of the mean and nasty comments people say. :guilty: And some people are now turning away from the boards all together :confused3 ....this is absolutely absurd...why can't people just be respectful of each other, and there opinions? I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, but come on this getting wayyyyyy out of hand. I don't understand why people get offended so easily, I'm part Italian...and I thought Rileyroomom's post was hilarious :rotfl: .... I mean why even have the Dis boards if people don't feel free to post, with out getting totally flamed....I love this board, but I'm getting really sick of all this bickering back and forth from people. Pixie dust to all!! :wizard:

I though the post was hillarious. Thank you it was a really hard day at work and I needed a good laugh. :goodvibes

I know that their are different customs but really, common sense should be universal.

But see, there's the rub.

What you and I think of as "common sense" would seem like utter nonsense to people in other cultures. Europeans aren't as uptight about nudity as Americans are. Most Italian women do not wear swimsuit tops on Italian beaches (or, at least not when I was there 20 year ago), and most kids under 7 or 8 are completely naked. An Italian reading this thread would likely wonder what the fuss was about a woman taking her top off in a women's bathroom, and say the exact same thing.

For what it's worth, though, I personally would be pretty disgusted by anyone washing their body in a public sink, top on or off. Seems rather unhygienic to me.

But isn't it okay to share cultural differences? I'm sure that if I went to China or Vietnam or Nigeria I would see lots of things that would make my eyes pop out. Isn't it okay to write about that stuff on a message board? (The people in China or Vietnam or Nigeria would probably be writing about things they saw ME do on THEIR message boards.)

The OP's comments were WAY less rude than some I have read here. Her comments were not directed at anybody in particular while some of yours WERE directed at her. How dare you talk about somebody being rude? Have you looked in the mirror?

Although my signature doesn't show it, I have been around these boards since it's inception in the late 1990's. Back then, people were just so nice. Now, no one can make a comment without people getting so angry - Lighten up, everyone....it's just someone else's opinion...

Maybe you caught me on a bad day... maybe not, you be the judge, but your feelings about larger persons is just.. rude.

How is the OP being "rude" noone wants to see a person over 300 lbs. in a bikini :earseek: . I completely agree with the OP, noone wants to see any of that in WDW and the rudeness of the people who go to the parks these days is just outrageous :sad2:

:rotfl: My little boy just ask me why I was laughing at the computer.

Since when do you flame someone for what they saw? Maybe they weren't wearing thier rose colored glasses like others?

Okay, I admit it, I came back on the boards. Thanks for all the encouring posts and understanding I wasn't out to be offensive. I still think I will lay low for awhile on these boards they are becoming too hot for me!
BTW - I am Italian so I knew the woman in the bathroom was speaking Italian.
As for the Italian girls, no one knows better than me how loud a bunch of Italians can get (my dh was laughing saying he felt like he was at one of my family dinners). Cultural differences aside, the girls were being rude.

Thanks again for all who supported me :flower:

It's fine to share cultural differences, and even to laugh about them when we find them funny. What's not OK is to say or imply that someone lacks common sense or is rude, simply because they do things differently in their culture. The OP didn't do this, but Troy08 did with "common sense should be universal", as did other posters who called the girls on the monorail rude, due to their lack of need for personal space.

Edited to add: OK, I see now the OP did call the monorail girls rude in the post above mine. Rileyroosmom, you were there, I wasn't, I'll take your word for it. To me, "rude" implies intentional rudeness, but my take from your description was that they weren't being intentionally rude, they were just being Italians on public transportation, which, as someone else pointed out, is commonly exactly as you described. I know I'm new here - but I don't want anyone to leave over this either.

:)

All I can say is you are "right on the money"! Dang, I would have been mad if I seen someone clipping their toenails at WDW and NOT gotten a picture of it. :rotfl2:

Okay I was trying to be positive in my earlier post and here's why! I have been called too literal and touchy in other posts so I am trying to lighten up and be more positive. I personally got a kick out of the OP's comments and it brought back some now funny memories that were not so pleasant at the time! BTW, I mentioned earlier my DH clipped his nails once due to one nail cutting into his other toe and he is hot to tell you all he clipped in the men's room! Okay and one gross thing I did see was this woman washing out her little girl's underwear in a drinking fountain at Epcot! OMG I will not let my children drink out water fountains ever again! Meanwhile the kid is standing there with nothing on the bottom and she was maybe like 8 or 9. My daughter would rather die than stand bottomless at WDW (or anywhere else) at that age!

I don't know why, but that comment has stuck my funny bone! I am sitting here trying so hard not to laugh out loud and then have to explain myself to my family sitting in the same room. That should become another of your tags!! :)

OP- I did not take any offense to your post. I thought it was quite humorous. My favorite thing to do at WDW is to people watch and look for funny things! :)

IMHO I thought the original post was HYSTERICAL. My only question is " I am 365lb man that rides in a ecv .. I was planning on wearing a bikini to the parks. What color should I wear so it doesnt clash with the ECV?" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not to sound as if I tooting my own horn, but especially when I'm at Disney I try to do a Random Act of Kindness, such as helping a someone take a stroller of a bus, telling a little girl all dressed up as Cinderella what a pretty princess she is, ect ect. I've always thought that the Disney Magic shouldnt be reserved just to the cast members.

ITA. Some times it does not take much either. One night we were waiting for the bus after the MK closed and a little girl was crying and carrying on for her mom. I just made conversation with her and it turned out she hurt her knee. I asked her if she wanted a barbie band aid and she was all smiles again. I think I will bring stickers too this trip. Kids usually dramatize the worst for their own parents but a kind word from a stranger about their magical day will stop the upset in minutes.

Tacky as it may be, I also took a picture to I suppose, prove that what I saw really went on. Keep in mind that I grew up in a very formal household and learned all I knew about the birds and bees from Encyclopedia Brittanica and National Geographic. This is my story and it's not a judgement but a cultural difference that shocked me. Two weeks after I got married on Martha's Vineyard I joined my Swedish husband in our new home in Stockholm, Sweden. On one of the first summer weekends, we headed out to the beach so that the family could spend some time together. There were to be many babies, grandma, grandpa and basically the entire family would meet up. As I slipped on my one-piece bathing suit, coverup etc., my husband traded his Jams for let's say more "european" style swim trunks. I could not believe my eyes. Certainly under the sheets I was not aware of equipment such as this. I said, "Absolutely, not!" If I knew that I was marrying a Speedo man, I would have changed my mind. My DH slipped into something less comfortable. We arrived to find about 16 people laying on blankets and sitting in beach chairs. Grandpa was in his bikini, SIL was nursing the 4 y/o and 1 y/o completely naked except for a tiny bikini just barely covering her pocketbook. All of the children under appx. 9 y/o were completely naked. Essentially the entire beach looked naked to me. When men came out of the ocean, apparently it is a tradition to change into dry swimsuits. The guys just took everything off right in front of you and got into their new trunks. Part of me was fascinated. My husband still can't believe it but I did duck behind a pine tree and took some panoramics to send to my family. I eventually did get used to the whole nudie thing but I never took to it myself. No one seemed disappointed by that decision. I can promise you that my family would NOT have believed it :goodvibes if they hadn't seen it(in a photo). Thanks for making me laugh, OP! Threehearts

Thank you all for telling these people to lighten up! Their have been way too many posts on this board lately that people are taking waaaaay too literally. I used the term "it was like a train wreck" the other day (speaking of when you can't look away) and was BLASTED! It's unreal, I would hope that we would be able to come on this board and be civil with each other, we all have a common interest, let's take that, embrace it and be kind to each other! Thank you and have a magical day!!!

You really don't want to get me started on -THAT- topic, but I do beg to differ with you. You are incorrect when you say "NoOne wants to see a person over 300 lbs in a bikini" There are people out there who DO want to see larger women in bikini's. There are entire sites dedicated to BBW Women who look ravishing, wether they are 150lbs or 450lbs. I guarntee you someone out there finds that attractive. Maybe they're not in the Norm, but they're certainly out there.

I understand the point the OP was trying to get aross, however there is no need to demean someone because of their size. So a larger person was wearing a bikini, they have every right, if it offends your sensibilities, do you stand and point? Do you make a public mockery of them? That is what I find rude, while it's done here in a public forum, what if that woman was reading? What if, when she put it on that morning, she thought, "you know, I look good" and then she reads this... she'd be humiliated.

As for the "Overweight Italian Woman" washing in the sink, while I can't condone the policy, mayhaps she was just trying to get cool. *shrug* I feel very sorry for the custodian CM who had to clean up all the water on the floor.

Toenail clippings, I read that as Humerous because I can see it.. I have seen it at other parks, and it's worse when you see them, not with clippers but using their teeth. *Wrinkles nose*

*shrug* To each his own. I stand by my thoughts that the op's post relating to size is rude.

Wow, that's quite a family you married! :rotfl: I can imagine your shock. I agree -- you needed a picture of that scene. :teeth:
