What cracked me up is that there are Tums in the background of a beer cooler! I didn't even notice the "paperclip."

my god, if someone gets bitten by a shark, in the ocean, at castaway cay and sues disney, they need someone to just smack them over the head. who are all the people off the east coast who have be bitten recently suing?

It sucks but most of the people who got bitten off the east coast know they aren't going to be suing a multi-billion dollar company that doesn't want a PR fiasco. Every time someone gets hurt or dies on Disney property the lawsuits come out not matter whose fault it was. I would think you wouldn't win a lawsuit if your child drowns because you weren't watching them at a pool with a sign that says swim at your own risk, lifeguards not on duty but Disney has settled enough of those lawsuits over the years.

A good lawyer could make a case that Disney failed to take appropiate measure to keep the beach safer. He could argue that Disney should have installed a fence across the opening at Serenity Bay to keep out sharks. Even if it cost $100,000 to build a fence since it is a very wide opening, a lawyer will point to the the net worth of Disney being 100 billion dollars (guessing) and $100,000 is the profit from just one cruise.

My guess is Disney has evaluated the risk of a lawsuit verses the cost of buildinng and maintaining a fence and concluded the risk of a shark attack was minimal. And even if someone were bitten, they settle out of court for $100,000. I know I would. If a shark bit my leg at Serentiy Bay I'd settle for $100,000.....but only if they threw in a couple of those awesome beer coolers too.

With the species of shark that are most likely to swim in the Serenity Bay area, if someone gets bit I would bet they put their hand in the shark's mouth.

i think we should spin this thread off to discuss litigation...i LOVE how things steer in different directions.

we used to call them milk sharks....probably still do up here, I reckon. Anyhow, they are pretty darn safe. I wouldn't tempt them with a cheeseburger or anything.....

Sharks. I will be totally paranoid now. I NEVER get in the water, but really wanted to see if I could go out to the "sand bar" area off Serenity Bay. They say you can walk/swim? Anyway, this ONE time I get in the water... I'll get bit by a shark. I'm telling you, that's my luck.

I'll be sure to report it here first.

So.... does one just FREEZE when they see a shark? Just stop in the water if you can stand up??? Seriously. I don't know.

Flying into Orlando from Denver around 2 pm EST day before cruise and staying at Port Orleans Riverside and have private car to PC. Would like to make a stop at a liquor store prior to cruising. Any ideas on how easy this is? Or maybe we can sweet talk our driver into stopping the next morning! Though I don't know how much time we'll have.

"Private car" as in a towncar/limo? Many times such bookings will include a stop (liquor/grocery) if you want one. It may be easier to stop enroute to the port, although you can catch a boat over to DTD (not sure if there is a liquor store there, though). From DTD it's not a far walk off property to the shopping center where there is a grocery/liquor store.

I agree with you that DCL shouldn't be liable for shark attacks at Serenity Bay; however, my slip and fall attorney would jump at the chance to take the case.

I don't know if too many attorneys would take on a shark case, out of professional courtesy LOL

This is my shark story:
At Serenity Bay, I am on the beach, and DW is on a raft about 20 yards out. I start walking out to take her picture and all the little fish around me scatter. I start looking around and see a 2-3 foot Black Tip shark cruising through the water. Picture did not come out due to angle of sun and reflection off the water. My DW is splashing the water with her hands to move the raft, so I tell her to stop because I see a shark. So what does DW do, she jumps off the raft and makes a bigger splash. The shark turns towards her. I have to run and get between her and the shark.

It is originally from 2010 but has pictures of sharks and other sea life taken at CC. It also has my encounter with a Black Tip Shark at the CC-SB beach.

Yes...though I think town car/limo probably sounds nicer than what we'll end up in! LOL. We are going to eat that night in DTD and after traveling with granddaughters all day our group may like the walk off-site to the liquor store. We won't know what to do with all the extra Os though...may not need much alcohol. My daughter and I can also leave the girls with Eric and walk over so she can see what she wants too. We're celebrating...she's a year and a half cancer free! Thanks for the help.

At each port stop you can bring on more (same amount)

Thanks. Yes, I saw that. We're not huge drinkers but like a rum and coke etc. Oh, well wine and beer will have to suffice. Though since we'll be somewhere warm and sunny in Jan while it's snowy here I'm going for fruity and umbrellas! Counting the days and having fun preparing for the trip!
