Obnoxious Question - Maybe?

We just did a tasting on the Fantasy and we were in Skyline. There are no extra seats there at all. If you want your wife to be with you just buy a ticket so she has a place to sit. Wait I take that back...there were some seats at the very entrance but they were not next to where the presentation was taking place so would defeat the purpose of her being next to you.

This was Mixology. Drinks were strong. We had 5 drinks in less than 45 minutes. They do not allow you behind the bar anymore but call up a few volunteers to muddle or pour some drinks.

No harm, no foul =)
I totally get not every couple works the way we do, no judgment there either - some folks are just happier doing things on their own, my mom was like that, I respect it. For us, it actually is a matter of everything we do being better when we're together. And some of it is we really don't want to separate on our vacation - this is our time to be together without work, and "alone" (I care for my elderly mother who moved in with us about 3 months ago) - so it might be that we are more protective of our time together for this trip - esp since the whole point is to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.

The only reason I brought up Gay vs Straight is that those I have talked to who don't get all this attached at the hip stuff tend to be straight couples who want their "girls night" or "boys night" out. And the couples I know who tend to be attached at the hip are of the same gender, so girl's night out doesn't exclude their spouse.

OMG, I did not mean to make that judgmental and I'm sorry if it sounds that way. It was just an observation as to what might be an issue. I certainly did not know you were a same-sex couple but that has nothing to do with my comments. I don't know either you or your wife so I would could not possibly say that is why your situation is that way. It's was just a thought as to why some may feel the need to be together 24/7. I've seen it in a few of our friends including couples who are no longer together. It wouldn't work for us but that does not mean it won't work for you.
Again, sorry if you took this personally. It was not meant to be. :flower3:

It's not that big a deal =)
IF she can't be there she'll go to the room and read and I'll do a tasting. This isn't if she can't be there I wont do it, this is more if she can't be there I'll only do the one and not the 2 possibly 3. That's the one thing I hate about posting online - it's so easy for your meaning to get misinterpreted.

Although I suspect a lot of that is my fault - I said something about being like newlyweds - and maybe that made this all seem more intense than it is. By newlyweds I meant more the "prefer to be together - get all goo goo eyed all the time - like each other better than EVERYONE else, happier when we're together - we actually fight over who's cuter BS." the kind of stuff most couples I know get over by year 2 or 3. In other words, we're just stupid in love and since together is better than apart, we do apart as little as possible.

I don't think she's a freak, but surely you've been on the odd end of our society's reaction to adults who don't drink? Seeing as how you yourself don't drink? I've lost track of the amount of **** we've gotten for drinking soda or water in a bar (The only place to see drag shows around here is a bar).
I don't drink. I just tell the bar tender or anyone else that I'm the designated driver. It's none of their business why I don't drink or if I have a drink. But no one can fault a person for being the designated driver.

Ask if she can sit there and see. Have other options if they say no.

Why on earth would I want to drink double?

I know plenty of people who would love to drink double. We don’t know your tolerance or wished-for experience.

but surely you've been on the odd end of our society's reaction to adults who don't drink

Nope. I even live in a drinking town and no one has ever questioned why someone doesn’t drink. I’ve gone through bouts of not drinking (I attend Adult Children of Alcoholics meetings, and it seems that most also attend AA meetings, so I like to make sure every so often that I don’t have a dependency, just like I leave coffee behind every so often) and no one has ever questioned it.

I do notice that sometimes people will think that offering a drink is pressure or judgment, when it’s just hospitality.

And of course if someone is already drunk, I’d never use their extra hospitality against them if they forget and offer again.

You felt the peer pressure before anyone even had a chance to apply it.

Exactly.

You make a good point, I forget my tolerance is much lower than most folks. If I were to do a double tasting I guarantee I would be well past tipsy.

Offering a drink is not pressure, being pushed for a reason as to why not once you refuse that drink is pressure, being asked if you're too good to drink with them, is pressure, being asked why you're even at the bar if you aren't going to drink, even after you try to say it's because you enjoy the show, that's pressure. I'm glad you've never experienced that pressure - I have, frequently.

Unfortunately there's no way to know if a bartender will let her attend or not until you go to the tasting. We've done tastings when they let others watch and tastings when they told the people they couldn't stay for it. I don't drink a lot, when I do, it's just one glass of wine or one mixed drink with dinner. First time we did mixology it was at 2:00. Had 5 full size drinks in less than an hour. I went to our cabin afterwards and took a 3 hour nap, lol! I was on crutches at the time, so just trying to make it to the cabin was quite comical. Whatever you do, eat something beforehand(I hadn't). Hope you have a great time!

Just as a point of reference, not drinking for a while means very little. I have a friend who is an alcoholic. He might not drink for a few years but it's when he does pick up a drink he can't stop. If he happens to buy a case of beer he has to drink it all at once even though he tells himself it will last for a month, that he will only have one now and then. If he brings home a 40 oz telling himself the same thing, only the occasional sip, once he has one drink he can't stop till its gone. Alcoholism can present different for everyone. Saying you stop to make sure there is no dependency may not be the proof in the pudding. I'm sure though that you know if you have any issues. I'm just saying stopping for a bit of time proves nothing.

Correct, they are held all over in different lounges. On the Fantasy earlier this month they held tastings in Skyline, Ooh La La, Meridien, Cove Café, etc. Some lounges may have extra seating, some may not. In general tastings are very popular and tend to sell out.
