Obesity epidemic and WDW??

More than 10 million Americans have been diagnosed with thyroid disease, and another 13 million people are estimated to have undiagnosed thyroid problems in the U.S. alone.

My dad is one of these people with a thyroid problem. He is in shape with help from medication. If it wasn't for his meds, he would gain weight very easily.

Another 6-10% have PCOS. Gluten intolerance can cause weight loss or gain (1 in 133 folks). Depression and other mental health issues can also affect weight (as can the medications for them), and that's not uncommon at all.

I am one of them as well. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after gaining 40 lbs in 3 months. During that time I was eating 1500 calories a day and working out 3 times a week.

Now, 2 years later, I have JUST found the right balance of medication to be able to lose weight and have lost 15lbs.

FOOD PORN????????? You have GOT to be kidding me. That is disgusting. Who would sit around on the internet looking at pictures of peoples food, and especially call it PORN?? Completely weird to me, this obsession with food.

Yes much better to be obessed with what other people are eating at buffets and how large they are

I have PCOS as well. Hypothyroidism and PCOS frequently go hand in hand and there are VERY few people that understand exactly what these disorders do. They attack physically, emotionally and mentally and can take years to get under control.

They are far more common than the OP will admit and it is people like the OP that encourage the thinking that "large" "pooh sized" "morbidly obese" people are simply lazy. That is the only disgusting thing in this thread.

Your right, there are many morbidly obese people at WDW, and i noticed many were not even walking! They were in wheelchairs. Sad.

I think it is sad that anyone has to use a wheelchair. But you have no way of knowing if that person is heavy because they have to use a wheelchair, or using the wheelchair because they are heavy. And it is really none of your concern either way. I can't imagine why you would spend your Disney vacation walking around making snap judgments about people, instead of enjoying your own vacation.

Whenever my sis takes her kids to WDW there is never a problem finding them something healthy to eat. Many stands sell fruit, and many places have salads on their menus. It is all about personal choice. Sometimes we let the kids eat a burger and fries, sometimes they have to have grapes and apple slices.

If I wanted to be force fed greens for a week I would head to a spa, not WDW.

And BTW metabolic disorders do account for some peoples obesity, but they are very rare. Mostly, these people just are completely sedentary and constantly eat.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe those people are obease because they are in a wheelchair, not the other way around? It is possible for someone to become paralyized or lose a leg and end up in a wheelchair..shocking, I know;)

Ya'll are so uppety. Relax and stop defending fat people. Every fat person at disney doesn't have a metabolic or thyroid problem. seriously.

:cheer2: Good for you!

"uppety" isn't what we are.

We are educated and aware that every person is responsible for their own actions.

We realize that there are NUMEROUS factors contributing to obesity in America and all over the world.

We think that judgmental, critical and flat out rude comments on observing "fat people" are not helpful.

Why do you find it necessary to harass all of the overwight people? Do you have any idea how hard it is to lose weight or how hard it is to be an overweight person in a soceity with people like you?!? Losing weight is very hard to do and can take a long time. Are there people out there not trying? Sure, but I still don't think it's right to attack them like you are. You never know if a person has a health problem or extra stress.

I still don't understand why you would spend your vacation looking at fat people and how they eat!! Your in WDW, the "happiest place on earth"!!! If you don't like it, then don't go to disney again!!!

MODERATORS:

May I request that this thread be closed? I'm guessing that many other posters will support my request. It seems that the OP is extremely closed-minded and will just continue to slander "fat people" as they have just stated above. This thread, in my opinion, has gone far past a constructive discussion.

I don't think it was constructive to start with:sad2:

"Uppety"? :lmao:
I did not say they did. My point was YOU don't know anything about the people you saw. But yet felt "qualified" to assume that you knew why they were "obese".

If YOU don't want dessert at Disney, don't order it. If YOU don't want a hamburger, don't order it. But remember unless the person is a client of yours, what they eat is not your business.

I would just like to add...

To all the people with smilies that are eating pocorn...

That popcorn is almost the size of your smiley head. It needs to be much smaller. And I hope that popcorn has no salt or butter on it.

Thank you.

popcorn:: But it's smart pop!

Ive asked three times, but no one will answer.. does anyone have an address i can write to in regards to nutrition info for disney or to talk to someone about healthier choices??

Yet you watched what others are eating while on vacation...or was that someone else who posted. I may be confusing you with another poster.

I wish that smilie would go away. It only tells me that someone is sitting back and hoping to see some fireworks. But, your comment was pretty funny!

How sad to feel this way. I can think of several people that I know of, personally, that need to be in a wheelchair or scooter due to health issues..not weight issues but some other bona fide issue. But, these people also tend to be heavier simply because they can not get out and move about.
My ds could be considered to be obese..if not actually obese, pretty close to it. BUT...according to his doctor, at his last physical, he is in incredible shape...b/p is just where it should be, heart rate very low, his numbers are all within normal parameters. Yes, he should lose weight but for he is still in great shape.

Uppity??? Are you serious??? No body is defending 'fat' people. I personally find that to be insulting and classless. We are offering reasons things are the way they are. You make it sound like everyone can drop 100 lbs just by eating more veggies...not so.

If WDW had smaller portions, some folks would complain about not getting their money's worth. It is up to each individual to monitor how much they eat. I usually end up losing a few lbs. on a WDW trip because of all of the walking.
