While on our cruise last October (our first one!) we paid a $200 deposit for a placeholder cruise. We plan on booking a cruise in late August or September 2017 when those dates come out. A couple of questions:

1. We made the deposit on October 3rd. I know we need to cruise within 24 months, but can we book a cruise that has us sailing on October 3rd? For example, a 7 day cruise that leaves on October 1st? Or must the cruise be complete by October 3rd?

2. Will we owe any more deposit when transferring to an actual cruise?

3. Will we need to call DCL to transfer the reservation to an actual cruise? Or can it be done on their website?

Thank you!

1. The future cruise must begin by Oct 2, 2017. Time was it had to be completed by the deadline, but that's changed.

2. You will whatever the difference is from your $200 placeholder deposit to the 10% deposit required for the onboard booking deposit.

3. Don't know if it can be done on the website, but I'd probably call to make sure it was done right.

We switched our onboard placeholder in January to a cruise for April 2017 and I had to call to do it.
It was a super fast I was done in less than 10 minutes.

Great to know. I do hope it is that fast and simple!

We are new to all of this. We've done DL and WDW more times than I can count but our 3 night Getaway cruise (from San Diego on the Wonder) last fall was our first cruise ever. We were hooked! Since we live in Northern CA, I really wish DCL offered more choices on the west coast. Maybe someday! :-)

The 10% deposit only applies to 7-night and longer cruises. If you book a shorter cruise, the deposit will be the normal 20%

Did you have to pay more when you called? The whole reason we booked the placeholder was because one of the perks was a lower deposit. What would be the benefit if you end up paying the same deposit as anyone else?

To get the 10% off the cruise fare, and the Onboard Credits.

So, when I call to book from placeholder, my price should be 10% less than what I see online, right? Also, please remind me, how much do we get in OBC?

Thanks!:listen:

I had to give them another $125 when I called, but it was still just 10% of the total cruise.
