Obama 'to reverse stem cell ban'

God wrote the bible through people. So obviously he knew what fetuses were because after all he created us.

I'm not judging. I'm stating a fact.

And God doesn't want Christians to be arguing about religion. That's why all my statements are passive.

If it involves killing embroys, I'm against it. We are not worthy enough to kill a life for a life.

They were going to be discarded anyway. As sad as it is, what would become of the fetus was not wanted. There's no way you could change the mother's mind because she didn't want it. It doesn't matter if it was a life or if it was a fetus - it was going to die because it couldn't grow outside the womb.

It doesn't matter if you're against killing an embryo, it's going to be dead anyway. Why not prolong the death to create something beneficial for others?

the embryos are already dead.

how can they be dead if you don't consider them to be alive?

i don't consider them to be a human life.
but i do consider any mass of replicating cells (and thats what an embryo is) to be alive. just as a carrot is alive, the cells of an embryo are alive. and just as picking a carrot terminates its cellular replication, removing an embryo from the womb terminates its cellular replication.

Flame me, but I agree. I'd rather focus on curing things for people who are already alive, than bringing a new life into an already over-populated world. It's we either let an embryo "die" (if I'm not mistaken, an embryo isn't even a life until something like 21 days after conception) or thousands of people die because there was no cure for their disease and treatment failed.

juvenial diabetes may be cured by this.

obviously those that don't support it have never been touched by a disease that is CURRENTLY incurable.

i have no tolerance for those that will fight for the "life" of a fetus, but won't fight for the life of tens of thousands of people who are sick and will be sick for the rest of their lives.

could not agree with you two more
and everyone else who has said that they are happy.
i'm GLAD to see that embryos that are already "dead"/not wanted/not going to be a child anyway...are being put to good use!!
i'm thrilled that those cells can be used in medical research than can potentially cure currently incurable diseases.
maybe then children who are alive, and breathing, and thinking, and trying to experience life can have a chance when faced with a terrible disease.

using these "dead" embryos (IMHO) is somewhat like organ donations...if i were to die, and my organs were harvest-able i'd want them to go to good use and to be able to save another persons life if possible.
and obviously a fetus can't think that way (because a fetus can't think...) but it's in that same vein, that if i can't live, i'd want my usable cells to be used to save others.

::yes::
Unfortunately I've had to put quite a bit of thought into that stuff just incase, but I have it all planned out. I'm going to donate my body to science and have my organs donated. If anything in my body can benefit science, take it. I'm not going to be able to use it anyway, y'know?

Im against it because it involves killing a human life.

Even tho we are a puddle of 'goo', were still human, and a life.

It's not fair for that potential baby.

So, you'd rather have people with diabetes live and struggle with it? You'd rather run the risk of people dying from cancer, to save an unborn life that would be thrown away otherwise?

Where's the logic?

Cause honestly, disagreeing with this research is KILLING lives, the lives of people touched by these diseases. Ever think about that? Unwanted cells going to save exsisting peoples' lives. Wow. -.-

And a fetus, it's not going to feel much. And even if it does, it's for a very very brief period of time.
A person who is alive, and has been for several years, suffers with pain every single day of their life, wondering if today will be the day the pain stops and they eventually stop. A person who wonders how to console their family. A person who wonders why no one has a cure yet.

A fetus is a fetus. Not yet a human in my mind. Whenever I think of that it reminds me of the episode of House where he keeps saying 'it's not a baby, it's a FETUS!'

Stem cell research does exist in other forms of cells, but I believe Shelby has told me that the ones from a fetus are most likely to have a good success rate.
Why not go further with science? Why not try to save the world? What if by taking that one fetus, we can save all the other would be babies from dying or suffering of a disease?
In the long run, one or two dead fetuses, or a million?

more like: feel nothing.

Yeah I wasn't sure.
I'm don't know much about this subject, but I do know that stem cell research pros outweigh the cons :)

Sadly, not to some. Although I'd love to see their reasonings beyond, "Christianity frowns upon it." Because really, when did Christianity become the government? :confused3

I meant technically not morally lol.
Yeah I know what you mean. It's annoying. But it's hard to avoid, a lot of people are religious, and they run our country so their beliefs get mixed in with what should and shouldn't be. People should separate their religion from their work in those cases, simply for the sake of others.
I'm very cynical towards religion. I find it is what's wrong with a lot of the world. Not elaborating on that tho.

the ends justify the means.

embryoes don't have brains, hearts, or nerves. hence, they cannot feel.

i don't understand how things without the essential parts of a human can be considered a human just because, one day it will be if everything goes correctly? a caterpillar is not a butterfly. its a caterpillar.

first, when the bible you're living your life by was written, the authors didn't know what a fetus WAS.

secondly,
i'm a christian, and an embryo is not a human life. don't think that you get the right to say who lives by the word of god and who doesn't. you're no one to judge.

and third,
if you cannot back up your arguement with anything more than passive aggressive comments, perhaps that reveals the holes in your holier than thou position.

and fourth,
who are you to deny anyone anything that could possibly cure a painful, deadly disease that they have? that is not your decision to make.

::yes::

For not arguing, you seem very argumentative... :confused3
So with your "we are not worthy enough to kill a life for a life" thing, I really hope you are against the war and the death penalty...
And I love how you're totally ignoring the fact that THESE EMBRYOS WERE GOING TO BE THROWN OUT. They would not have lived.

::yes:: separation of Church and State, anyone?

But we're worthy enough to effectively kill thousands because we sit around and hope a cure for cancer will pop up?

And what do you mean you're stating a fact? God knew what fetuses were is a fact? A f-a-c-t? Evidence please.

as long as the embryos have no cahance of ever becoming a baby, i think its a good thing. just throwing them out is a waste of resources (even if the word 'resources' sounds a bit harsh). we may as well use them to find cures. how else are we going to do that?

if it was embryos that were potentially going to be implanted then yes, i would have a huge problem with that. but they aren't.

And what do you mean you're stating a fact? God knew what fetuses were is a fact? A f-a-c-t? Evidence please.

i think it is a fact. definately. i believe that God created everything. including embryos, fetuses, etc. if you make something, you know what it is.

Even if God knew what fetuses were, the people living didn't. The Bible doesn't talk about each freaking stage of a pregnancy.

Even if you think it's a fact, it doesn't mean that it necessarily is. You need to have solid evidence to state that something is a fact. People used to believe that the sun, stars, and planets revolved around the earth. They thought that was a fact.

I believe in God, but I don't call it a fact. Faith is believing (in) something without evidence or proof. That's what religion is.
And the Bible was not written by God or Jesus himself- it was interpreted by humans- and humans make mistakes. Especially when translated, the Bible must have had thousands of errors at least. I'm not saying that the morals it teaches are wrong. I'm saying that some of the details may be wrong. They accept slavery in the Bible because when it was written, slavery was just an accepted part of society. Doesn't mean it's acceptable today. (I'm really tempted to get into gay marriage here, but it's not the place and I think some people's heads might explode. Including mine.)
^And I'm sorry if some of that doesn't make sense or is off topic... sometimes I get carried away when I'm passionate about arguing for/against something... hehe

Not when it comes to the bible.

Not when it comes to the bible.

In which case, I could call you a liar because my Bible says I can. If it's in my Bible, it's fact, right? If you can believe in yours so strongly that you can call it fact without solid evidence, I can call you a liar without proof to back that up and it would still be true.

Note: I'm not calling you a liar, it's just a convenient way to get my point across.

And, if what's in your Bible is fact, cold hard fact, then women shouldn't be doing anything a man can do, because men are superior to us.
