Obama Supporters, A question?

I want a change. I want a president who kids will look up to. I remember days when I was a kid that there was a pic of the president in every classroom and little kids aspired to being the president when they grew up. I want to believe and I DO believe that it can happen in my lifetime. Look at the amount of young people standing up for Obama, they want to change the world and change the dirtiness of politics.
I get all that, and understand why you like Obama. But if it comes down to McCain vs Hillary, why McCain? Does McCain and his 25 years in Congress represent more of a "change" than Hillary? If you want morality, is McCain - who cheated on and then divorced his wife - morally superior to Clinton - whose kept her marriage together after her husband cheated on her?

Would you vote to put someone in office that you didn't feel was a good and trustworthy person?

I understand where you're coming from and I feel the same way. I really find the enthusiasm and excitement Obama brings to this race, to be unique in so many ways. I like him and he makes me proud of my country in what he's accomplishing. I see young people like our fellow DIS'er "New Jersey" (Tim) all over this country, getting out and getting involved. It's stuff like this that makes me proud of my country. I don't recall seeing this much emotion from the American people over a political candidate in my lifetime. This is a historic time in American history and I'm enjoying seeing it unfold. If you would have told me 8 years ago that I would be seriously considering voting for a young man like Obama, let alone a Democrat, I would have thought you lost your mind.:rotfl: Seriously, it can and could happen. Thank you GWB.:headache:

To me John McCain and Hillary Clinton are part of the past and I'm not going to get into their good and bad points because I think we all now them by now. I hope whoever gets into the Oval office this November will be good for our country and my fellow Americans. We deserve better than we got in the past and I really hope Obama can pull this off and run the table. I'm not a 100% sure if I'm even voting this year, but I'm more than willing to give Obama a shot, if he gets the nomination, and see what he could do. Plus seeing some conservatives who think Bush can do no wrong, crap a brick over an Obama Presidency, is making me smile as I type this.;)

There are many that don't agree with you on that point though. Me included. I live in the SF Bay Area, where GOP is a dirty word, and I can assure you I am not alone in my feelings. I'll just be sitting this one out if it comes down to HRC v. McCain.

I thank you for that as it's a reasonable attitude towards not voting for someones principles you don't like versus someone who's character you don't like. If you think they both stink, then by all means, stay home. It's a principled approach and doesn't require you selling your blue soul to the red devil just because Hillary said she doesn't stay bake cookies or that her husband was playing hide the cigar with an intern.

What I don't understand, is someone who claims to be a member of the Democratic party, doesn't like the character of their party's candidate, and is so short sighted that he/she votes for someone who's basic belief system flies in the face of everything their party stands for, setting the Judicial Branch of our government back 150 years in the process.

I seriously think unless Clinton/Obama are on the same ticket in November it will be an uphill battle for the Dems to win. There will be too many people voting for the other guy or just sitting the election out and that is a really scaring thought!

Honestly, I won't be pulling a level for that ticket either. I'm not going to get into a Hillary bash here, but I do feel I am very informed and correct in my feelings about her character.

Hillary was damned if she did and damned if she didn't.. She gets critisized for staying will Bill..Maybe her beliefs about her marriage vows are a part of that. I don't know.. If she had left him you would have people coming down on her for breaking her *til death do us part* vows..

I've had this conversation before with folks and I always ask... "Would you be so cavalier in simply giving up and leaving your own husband should that sad scenario happen to your own marriage, and if you did decide to stay and work things out with your husband, would you be be okay with so many people calling you out on your decision?

Hillary is "polarizing" mostly because right-wing-radio-types like to hate on her. Those same folks are going to attack Obama non-stop too. Heck, they are hating on McCain, and he's a Republican.

Agreed. If anyone's imagining that Obama being elected president is going to create a kumbaya moment in America and bygones will be bygones, you're living in lala land. Truth of the matter is, regardless of if it's Obama, Clinton, or McCain, the far-right slime machine (Coulter, Rush, Hannity, Beck, Swift Boat Inc., et al) is just getting ginned up to tear a new mudhole in whichever one of the 3 makes it to the White House. 4 years is short, and they'll want to get one of theirs back in the Oval Office as soon as they possibly can!

Obama and Hillary are pretty close on the issues. So yes, I will vote for her if she gets the nomination.

But today there was a good round table discussion on Meet the Press about how close the race is. That when all the primaries will be done, they will be in a complete tie. And based on the polls they were showing, it looks liek it would be a bad move to nominate Hillary. Polls show Obama winning an election vs. McCain in a landslide. Against Hillary, it's practically 50/50.

Even though I prefer Obama, I like both candidates and would not hesitate to vote for either one. I'm fortunate that I don't have to "hold my nose" and vote for someone I dislike (which I have done in the past) just because they become the party nominee.

Exactly, on all accounts!!:thumbsup2

I seriously disagree, I think it's Hillary's OR Obama's to lose in November, not McCain's (at all)

And I think most polls play that out as well. I'm certainly not hyperventilating about McCain's chances, especially with a POed Republican base (you know, the one's who actually vote) saying that they're the one's sitting this one out.

Especially considering McCain lost 2 primaries to Huckabee yesterday and he also received the kiss of death: George Bush said McCain is a true conservative.

With friends like George Bush .................. :lmao:

Once again, no, they unfortunately don't say that. Most polls say it's Obama's to lose, if he's the party nominee. Most polls also say that Hillary versus McCain results in a near dead heat that could go either way.

I'm actually looking forward to the general election campaign when the McCain campaign sends Bush the wrong appearance schedules just to avoid having to appear on the same stage as him. :teeth:

So Hillary is hated because she was involved in scandals the most thorough investigation ever couldn't pin on her and because her husband is a philanderer. OK, I get it now...

I am very disturbed at some posters on here and I am trying REALLY hard to understand where exactly they are coming from.

You want change so you WILL ONLY vote for Obama who is of the Democratic party BUT if Hillary wins the nomination you are going to vote for McCain.

For those of you that are doing that - Thanks for killing thousands of more soliders.

I don't care if I get points for that. Not one person has clarifed that question as several other posters had asked - Why if you are a REGISTERED Democrat would go vote for McCain if Hillary instead of Obama gets the nod.

I am sick to my stomach. Why would you turn your backs on your own party in such a way. That is terrible. Again I will take my words back when you give me good reason why. Don't bring up the whole Bill thing because that is not what this is about, it has nothing to do with this at all. Don't use him as a scapegoat.

Please I seriously need to know, it is really bothering me......

There are also polls that say that McCain wins against both of them (surprisingly, NPR's for one). I think we can get a little too caught up in the polls and what they say instead of looking at the reality of what's going on in this election. People want change. Another 4 years of slightly watered down Bush policy and a potential 100 more years in Iraq is definitely not change, not to mention the fact that many of the hardline conservatives, the once sure voting base of the party, have announced that they would rather sit this one out than to vote for Sen McCain. That's why, regardless of candidate, both of these things have me feeling pretty good about the Democratic party's chances come November.

I'm for Obama. If Hillary gets the nomination, I will be voting for Senator McCain. Although I do not agree with everything he stands for, I admire and respect him. I can NOT say the same for Hillary. I truly believe that those who dislike her, Hate her. And if she wins the nomination the repubs will come out in record numbers to beat her at any cost as well as some demos and independants like myself.
I would really like to know why you hate her so much, or if anyone can answer that question. What has she done that would make her the worst possible candidate?

I would have no problem voting for Hillary if Obama didn't win. In fact, I would LOVE to vote for both of them at once, KWIM :cool1:.

I've been asking this question for roughly 10 years or so when confronted with the vitriol people have towards Hillary. Other than a few rare instances, I've yet to get an answer. They'll talk about how they don't trust her, but give no reason why that's so. They'll talk about how they don't like her politics (as if that would give reason for hatred), but won't be able to even talk about her politics other than the healthcare issue she's famous for.
