cnn.com is reporting that the Clinton campaign won't be releasing their March #'s until the official FEC deadline of April 20......hmmm

I don't post much on this thread, but lurk a lot (you guys seem to cover everything so well), but wanted to say that I was personally SO thrilled when I heard that Lee Hamilton had endorsed Obama. No, he is not a superdelegate, but as chris noted, he's extremely knowledgeable (and diplomatic) on foreign policy. He's currently the director of Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and extremely well-respected by both parties. I have watched his work through my job for over 20 years, and have so much respect for him. His word carries a lot of weight, so his endorsement was a real :thumbsup2! I'd love to see him get a position in Obama's administration - maybe diplomacy and bi-partisanship could return.

Carry on and another :thumbsup2 to this thread!

:thumbsup2 Great post. I think the only words the media cares about now are "superdelegates." Since he isn't one, they blew that endorsement right by, but I think it plays VERY well in Indiana and among the SuperDs.

I wonder if we have anyone from Indiana among us to give their perspective...

Cnn.com reporting that Jimmy Carter is "leaning" to Obama...He hasn't endorsed (yet) BUT has implied that is where he may use his SD vote.

BO also within $25 million of breaking Bush's primary fundraising record of $259Million.

ALso a "reverse" poll saying of the 3 candidates, the least favored candidate is JM 40%, HC 36% and BO 20%.

Just some odds and ends for the day.!:)

Carter says he won't endorse publicly, but made it known who his children & grandchildren are for (Obama)....

I just turned on MSNBC & the caption at the bottom of the screen (they were concluding whatever they were talking about) "Clinton: I will win because I know I will win"

I wasn't surprised by that.... I did listen to news earlier, and she is adamant she is bringing it to the convention of what any delegates do....

You're right. I watched her taking questions. She's absolutely certain she'll be the nominee. But the whole Super Delegate thing isn't democratic, and it is a slap in the face to voters. So, if the Clintons, the DNC and the Super Delegates want to make sure voters know they are totally disrespected, they will toss Obama aside and pop in Clinton.

If they do that, it will be a decision that haunts the DNC for many, many years to come. She might win, more likely she'll just force Reps and independents out in droves to vote against her. I think, either way, there will probably be some realignment of the primaries and the Super Delegates rules.

And yes, I get that the party started the Super Delegate thing. I don't think they really thought through the possible negatives that come with such a system. The last think any political party should do is deliberately insult it's rank and file members.

First I agree with you about the Independents and even some of the Democrats being rather disenfranchised if Obama has more delegates yet doesn't get the nomination. I'm an Independent & so is my husband... I lean Liberal, my Husband not so much, but we finally agree on the same candidate (Obama), first time in 15 years....

Anyhow, so she actually said that? That's rather bold, I will win, because I know I will win... it makes perfect sense..... I only saw the bottom of the screen when I came in...

March totals for Obama as just reported on MSNBC

Over $40 MILLION
Sarcasm warning:

Yes - but you need to figure out which money really COUNTS. Take out the money from red states, states that held a caucus, states where Hillary did not win, etc., etc.

I am SURE that when you do the final Clinton math - she has raised much more REAL money than he has.;) ;) ;) We MUST not COUNT any money that might be COUNTED against her.

That's a good one... apparently MSNBC just said Clinton did in fact raise 20 million last month, but apparently some portion of that money CANNOT be used for the Primary, I would think that was probably money from those who had given the Primary cap already & has to be used for the general...

Heck, Obama hasn't even tapped his people out yet, hasn't even come close in a lot of cases....

That was the case in February too. $11M of the $30M she raised last month came from supporters that had already reached the $2300 limit. So that $11M is held in trust for the presidential race. Those people will be getting refunds. :teeth:

Oh, didn't know about that, so for February she really only got 19M... I'm just keeping in mind she owes about 9M at this point.... sounds like a money problem as has been suggested in the past...

Clinton’s February F.E.C. Filings
By Michael Luo

Despite a strong month of fund-raising in February in which she brought in $35 million, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton finished the month essentially in the red, once her campaign’s outstanding debts are factored in, as well as her personal loan, according to filings submitted late last night to the Federal Election Commission.
After spending about $31 million in her efforts to keep up with Senator Barack Obama, Mrs. Clinton finished February with more than $33 million in cash on hand, but $21.5 million of that is earmarked exclusively for the general election, leaving her with $11.7 million for the primary.
Mrs. Clinton, however, loaned her campaign $5 million earlier this year and she listed $8.7 million in debts to various vendors, making clear why she has not yet paid herself back from her loan.
By way of comparison, Senator Barack Obama, her Democratic opponent, brought in $55 million in February, a record-setting sum, and spent about $43 million, leaving him with $31.6 million in cash on hand available for the primary and $7.3 million set aside for the general. He also did a much better job paying his bills, listing just $625,000 in outstanding debts.

So she had $11.7M minus $8.7M in debt, minus her $5M loan. She's way in the red.

Is there a snowballs chance in you know where that these facts will be spelled out on any news show??? I don't think so. I don't know why. Drives me nuts.
If she can't even manage a campaign budget....:rolleyes1

I've only heard the rumblings of campaign finance problems, but nothing so detailed as what was posted... and if you can't handle that budget, you're in trouble IMHO....

On an aside, Hardball's big number of the night? 1,276,000 - the number of people who have donated to Obama's campaign....

When I think that each of those folks made the decision to donate-that is one impressive number! It's one thing to sort of support a candidate, it's another to pull out your Mastercard. :goodvibes
