We are planning on taking our little ones (2 1/2 and 14mos) to Puerto Rico in August for the first time ,so they can meet their abuelo (grandpa)

Anyone ever go to PR before with young children? and how was your experience. Anything in particular to do specifically for young children.

We are thinking of staying at the Embassy Suites in Isla Verde,San Juan, anyone ever stay there?? they have a childrens wading pool, and it is close to the beach and the mall, all good things for HOT august weather, yuk

I guess this will be good trial run for us,since we are taking them to WDW in Nov for the first time,so the plane ride will give us a taste of what we are in for,lol

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated
thanks in advance

On Saturday late afternoon/early evening make sure to go to Old San Juan and go kite flying at the fort. You'll find lots of families and children there.

Make sure to go visit the rainforest...beautiful. Old San Juan is beautiful...they can go feed the pigeons in the pigeon park...it really is a sight. The forts are wonderful! So fun! So much to do!

The best advice I can give you will be to bring mosquito repellent. I have 2 boys (7years and 3 years) and since abuelo and abuela live in Puerto Rico we visit the island at least once a year (sometimes two), and they hate mosquito bites so much that the first thing they do when they wake up in the morning is ask for the mosquito repellent.

OMG - my family is going to PR in August too! We are going the last week in August. I have to check out that hotel because I really haven't made any plans yet.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

I now know about the mosquito repellent. The first time I went with DH to PR to meet his parents,OMG I got eaten alive. The buggers must have thought,"FRESH MEAT",:scared1:
When we went to the airport to go home,I was approached by so many locals laughing at me,saying "next time you will know better",hee hee

wow,Pigeon park sounds interesting. Not so sure my 2 little ones would love hundred of pigeons flying to them and at them, especially once we go home, the fact that we live in NY ,I can just imagine walking down the street at home and then they see one "The birds are coming, the birds are coming":rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Robmom-we are also going the last week (Aug 20-24),if you do wind up staying at the Embassy suites like us,we can have a mini-dis meet:banana:
By the way where in NY are you?,we are in Brooklyn.

I also was eaten alive by the mosquitos the last time I went there. I finally had to wear jeans the last couple of days because I was tired of strangers commenting on the large welts all over my legs.

I think we might be staying at the Holiday Inn. I haven't booked anything yet. We are only staying 3 or 4 days and then the rest of the week we will be staying with DH's family.

I'm in Brooklyn too! How cool. :cool1:

Our friends went to visit family there. The 2 year old DD got really sick and had to go a hospital there. They said it was the scariest place ever! They will not go back until she is much older now.
