O/T - Pregnancy Symptoms

I'm surprised so many people have gotten pregnant while on the pill. I always thought it was 99% foolproof.

No matter how foolproof it is, people aren't always! It's only foolproof if you take it at EXACTLY the same time every day. And there are all kinds of hidden things that react with it (most commonly, antibiotics) that make it not work so well. A word to the wise, ALWAYS uses alternative BC if you are on any kind of antibiotic!

I knew the night it happened.... I lost it two months later.

I get freaked every month, some more than others. My body is very sensitive now to the pill. I had to stop taking the pill because if I don't take it the same moment each day I break through. Now i am on the patch and I have to replace it at the same time every sunday. To the half hour or I have problems.

I don't know how I will tell because I think I am every month! A little paranoid.

With both of mine, breast tenderness followed by nausea. Usually the breast tenderness kicked in, then I calculated in my head that I might be late. Then I do the test and voila, positive!

Warning... here's a long post...

With my first, we had been trying for over two years, the whole infertility route except IVF. At IVF, we gave up. Completely. Within the timeframe of trying, however, I did get pregnant and lost the baby. Six months after we gave up, I had a dream one night. I was standing in my old family house I grew up in, looking out the garage door, down the driveway to this old, 40's looking car and man walking up the driveway. He was holding a little girl with blond curly hair who was maybe a year old. He comes into the house, next to me and my dh, and hands me the baby and says, "You're a mother now". In the dream this HUGE, HEAVY weight suddenly comes over my chest and I panic because I have no baby supplies, but then I remember I just got a new credit card and can buy anything I need ;) . The next day, something from this dream lingered and I went to the mall, bought a pregnancy test (I was one day late - not abnormal) and took it in the mall restroom (so my dh wouldn't find it and freak out about my "obsession" again, lol). Lo and behold, it was positive and I instantly calculated my due date... it was the same due date as the first pregancy, March 26th! Yeah, I freaked! DS was born on March 20th weighing 10 lbs 13oz.

My second... The little girl showed up again in a dream, this being only the second time she was in my dreams. I don't remember the specifics, only that I woke up and thought, "OMG! It was her!!!". I took ds (22 mo) to Walmart and bought a test (it was 3 days before I was due) and it was positive! DD was born August 10th.

My third... Ummm... no dreams, just my friend asking me if I was pregnant. I said, "NO!!"... I had just weaned dd at 14 months and was not ready to be pregnant again or ever! She was convinced I was and I was convinced she was crazy! I took a pregnancy test at her house on Halloween night, just to prove her wrong, and ummmm... I've never seen a test turn positive that FAST!! We (me, my friend, my other friend dressed in drag for halloween, and her daughter) stood in her kitchen for 15 minutes trying to figure out a way to tell my dh... he wasn't thrilled at first! ;) DD was born June 16th.

Those are my stories and I'm sticking to them!

DS#1, I didnt know until I took the pregnancy test on the first day possible. It was barely pink and I almost threw it out before I realized there was a slight pink line.

DS#2, before I should have been able to know, and I was having signs that I wasnt, I went to get a haircut. My hairdresser told me she thought I was pregnant. I told I wished, went home and took a test the next morning(again, well before I should have been able to tell), and it came out positive.

With DD, DH and I had said "Well, let's not do anything to PREVENT pregnancy, but let's not actively TRY". Wham, bam, the very first time I got pregnant... I should be a poster child of something. I remember thinking after that first time that it was a PRIME time for me to concieve.

I knew I was pregnant one day at work when I was sitting at my computer listening to my co-worker explain all her symptoms to another co-worker. I realized then that I had them all too...

Went home, took the test and it turned pink in no time flat.

My first pregnancy (which resulted in a miscarriage) was a complete surprise to me. I was working at Publix and I had been having some spotting for a few days. I thought I had an infection but I mentioned to a co-worker who said "uh-oh". I said WHAT?? All she would say was "uh-oh". I still had no clue. I went home and when I told my dh I needed to go to the Dr because I think I had an infection and I told him what my co-worker said also said "uh-oh". I was getting mad. Why couldn't anyone tell me what they were "uh-ohing" about?? I STILL had NO clue!! Finally the next day at work I got the co-worker to tell me what it meant and I said no way!! I had NEVER planned on having a child and it was the furtherest thing from my mind. I did buy a test though just to shut everyone up.(By this time several co-worker were in the conversation and they were all doing the uh-oh thing! I took the test and within 2-3 seconds the pink line(or was it blue) showed up. I started yelling "erase!..erase!". Needless to say it never erased. I had a miscarriage with that pregnancy which I think was Gods way of letting me know That I really wanted a child. We then put it in God's hand and said it it was meant to be I would get pregnant. I then became pregnant onout anniversary. I felt like I was that very night. I had a "feeling" but it wasn't until I was a day late that I took a test and it came out positive. I had morning sickness the WHOLE 9 months and breast tenderness for about 6 months.

I most be unusual because I had no symptoms - felt the same as always. I really didn't feel any different until around 3 1/2 months, which worried me because my progesterone was low and I was afraid that not having symptoms was a bad sign.

Both of my DS's are IVF babies so I had a really good idea of when tests would start to show up positive.

With DS9, the morning before I went for the blood work, I gagged on my toothbrush. When I found out that evening I was pregnant, I knew it wasn't a coincidence.

With DS4, I couldn't wait until the day for my blood draw. I bought a home pregnancy test. Took it, a faint line. Didn't believe it, so I used the other one. Again, a faint line. Still in doubt, I went out the next day and bought another test. Again, a faint line. The next day when I went for the blood draw, I had a pretty good idea it was going to be a positive result.

With the one I miscarried, I had no clue I was even pregnant until they called to tell me so. Two days later, after the second blood draw, they called to say the numbers increased but not as they would have expected them to. Two days after that, the number plumited, so they told me I wasn't pregnant anymore. What a rollercoaster. :(

Thanks everyone for the great replies....I know with my first, I knew right away...and a few days before I tested I fell asleep at 7 pm and didn't wake up until 9 the next day....that never happened and I knew something was wrong. I love hearing everyones baby stories!

Nope...I didn't have a clue. I was feeling very tired and I was late, but all of that happened during my two weeks of law school finals so I just thought it was the stress of finals. A week after finals...still no period, so I thought maybe I should take a test...it was positive. :)

Other than being tired all of the time and a constant stuffy nose, I didn't have many symptoms. I was never too sore, had no morning sickness, and never had cravings (unless you count craving EVERYTHING as a craving. ;) )

Well, with first pregnancy, we were only sorta kinda trying, and I was a day late. I really FELT like I was going to get my period, so I didn't want to waste the $ on doing a test (I had bought a few in advance since like I said we were sorta trying). I finally took one maybe a few days after period was missed and it was positive. I was pretty shocked! I had sore breasts, but get that before my period anyways. Other than that, no real symptoms right at the very beginning, except for being very lightheaded when I stood up. Unfortunately that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 8 weeks. So now we decided we really wanted to try (not kinda sorta anymore) and got pregnant the first cycle we could! I was again surprised to see the positive test - it was a few days before my period was due. I had zero symptoms at all...no sore breasts, nothing. Unfortunately had another m/c after some spotting less than a week later. So we tried AGAIN and got pregnant AGAIN first cycle we could. So I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant now and crossing my fingers. I was doing pregnancy tests as soon as 10 days after ovulation!!! One finally came out with the faintest of lines, so day after day they just kept getting darker and darker. I have sore breasts with this one - started probably right around when the tests came out positive. I am more tired than any previous pregnancies, and like another poster said - I don't feel nauseaus if I don't eat, but I have a wierd feeling in my stomach like I need to eat. It's not a horrible feeling or anything. I also am ravenous--just want to eat everything in sight.

I get nervous sometimes about not having morning sickness, but it seems alot of women don't get it and still have healthy pregnancies.

Same thing all three times...no zit on my chin, that I always got every month.

MaryAnnDVC,

:) ::yes::

If being pregnant means no breaking out on my chin every month, I want to have 6 more children.

las3888 - good luck to you! Keeping my fingers crossed.

My face stayed pretty clear when I was PG, but look out for after delivery. I had this gorgeous baby but I looked like a pepperoni pizza!

Now I am taking ortho tri-cyclene and I don't have too much trouble.

I don't get sick and have a very healthy child - I am knocking on wood here, because I have been feeling a little wierd lately and have no appetite, but I don't get morning sickness per se. Please don't believe the myths that sickness means a healthy child - that's just to make those poor people who can't get their heads out of the bowl to feel marginally better about the whole thing. But don't tell anyone.

I was pretty sure I was, I just had a feeling of "fullness". It was a good feeling.

Then one night I had a dream. DH and I were at the grocery store. He asked if I wanted a cookie. Of course I want a cookie, so we went to the bakery and the woman said the cookies were good but she had some sticky buns baking and they were wonderful. I ended up choosing the sticky bun and we left.

Doesn't sound like much unless you realize that I had a bun in the oven! I don't always get the finer points to my dreams but this one hit me over the head.

thanks for starting this thread!! i love to hear how everyone discovered they were pregnant!

dh and i are trying...have been for awhile now...finally had to have medical assistance. it's been tough! those hormones just make you crazy!!
