O/T ipod Q's

my 14yo is saving his money b/c he really really really wants an ipod. He has an MP3 but apparently it's not cool or as good as an ipod his money so whatever!!

So with all of them out there on the market what should he be looking at getting?? nano? classic? whatever else is out there?? How big would he need? His MP3 is 2 gigs and it's not full yet - close but not full. We went to look at them to get an idea of price and the number of different ones was mind boggling. Also any suggestions on the best place to look for one?

Your son is right, ipods are pretty neat. I just got one and I like it so much better than my old mp3 player.

Since he's used to his 2 gig mp3 player, I would suggest the 4 gig nano. That is the one I have. I've only filled it 1/2 way and I have 350 songs on it. I have no video on mine yet, as video takes up alot more space. If he's looking to use video, the 8 gig nano might be better, if not, I suggest the 4 gig. I bought the silver one, as the other colours are more expensive, and you can jazz it up with a coloured case.

I bought mine at Future Shop and definately recommend going there. Since I was new to ipod, the employee I spoke with explained how they worked, how to put song on it, etc.. very helpful. I bought their ipod package which included thier $60 2-year service and battery replacement plan, and a ipod case. They told me 4 out of 5 ipods come back to them after a year needing replacement batteries with can cost as much as a new ipod to replace! So the pan is a good idea. I also highly recommend getting a protective ipod case for a teenage boy...they can be so hard on things and ipods scratch easily.

Head over to the Apple store at Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke. They have every iPod on display so that you can test drive them. The knowledgeable staff will be able to answer every question you throw at them. Sherway Gardens is about 45 minutes from the 401 & HWY 6 out side of rush hour.

4GB Nano should be enough for him unless he starts loading it up with video. If that is the case you may want to look at the iPod touch, it has a larger screen and has built in WiFi.
Pick up a case that wil not only protect the body of the iPod but allso the sreen and touch wheel. Another thing to consider is that he can use the iPod as a portable hard drive to transfer files back and forth to school.

Once you decide which iPod is for you, Wal Mart has the lowest prices but may not have every model in stock.

Some of the big retail stores offer service plans that cover only the iPod and nothing else, no ear buds or tech support.

To up an iTunes store account for your DS pick up an Apple gift card. This way he can have an account with out providing a credit card.
