O/T: Curfew?

I think 9 is perfectly reasonable for an 8th grader. I think that children, particularly adolescents, need firm rules. I think you have a good plan.

Exactly. I don't know what the deal is with the other parents around here. Unfortunately, because it seems like the norm to just let your kids run who-knows-where for hours at a time, I also have to deal with my daughter's resentment and occasional attempts at manipulation to do what "everyone else" is doing. I'm not just a parent, but also a teacher of these kids - I hear a lot about parenting from the kids themselves and am sometimes appalled at the laxness.

I wont have to think about curfews for a long time however I will most likely do it on a case by case basis, like my parents did. Many times when I was 16-17 there were times I wouldnt get home until daybreak only because my friends and I went all night bowling and I wasnt legal to drive until after 5 am. During band years I wouldnt gt home until after 1 am if it was an away game. We used to joke that my curfew was daybreak unless I didnt make it home. I was required to call my parents and let them know when to expect me home and then wake them up when I got home. And I continued to do that until My dh and I moved in with each other.
