O T: 98%???

I've been thinking about this since I first ran across the 98% thing. Here's my conclusion: After much serious thought (man do I need more stuff to fill my time) I would say that every single person I can think of in my age group, except me, has tried smoking pot. I'm not kidding. I've even asked those that I wasn't sure about. So, in my circle of friends and co-workers, the figure seems pretty accurate. For those of you who are wondering why I never tried it, it's pretty silly actually. When I saw others smoke it I thought it was really awful the way they hacked and coughed after they blew the smoke out. Talk about unglamorous! Of course that didn't stop me from trying other things when I hit my 20's and worked for a band.....after all it was the 80's! I am such a dork!!

Numbers and percentages can be manipulated to show anything you want them to show..

What I do find ironic though - from actually talking to teenagers - is that many of them are adamant about not smoking "regular" cigarettes, but have no problems with smoking pot at all..

Actually, 74%. Anybody who says it's just 63% is SO far behind the times.

One of the other forums I frequented required all statistics / facts to be reliably cited. It usually cuts a bunch of the crap out of things, especially in political arguements or 'heart-of-the-matter' topics where EVERYBODY has a conflicting opinion (like lying about kids' ages or multiple ADRs).

I'll tell you I'm in the vast majority on this issue (but not recently). But I did catch a whiff of something vaguely familiar at the last Dave Matthews Band concert I was at...

What the heck? Who came up with this statistic? Can someone show me where this comes from? I don't for a second believe that 98% of the teenage population does ANYTHING but get zits.

That didn't even dawn on me, but makes perfect sense. Sometimes I'll see "off topic" in a thread title and I always wonder how they could be off topic on the community board and now I know!

It would be clearer if, when they moved threads, they made a post in the thread that they were moving it, so OP would learn, as well as others.

I know a ton of people who have never tried pot in my age group (early 40's). That statistic certainly doesn't work about my aquaintances.

I didn't have any friends or kids I knew that didn't smoke pot art least once, even with the people I work with now we often tell tales of old times and the bulk of them smoked pot at the very least.....only person I know never tried it was my brother and he was really geeky in school anyway...
