Palo & Pirates

Last year on the Dream we had done Palo brunch and I LOVED it!! <3 Chicken Parm <3

This year we tried for dinner first! It was delicious and I would do it again in a heart beat!! We didn't take very many pictures for Palo Brunch or dinner, but for dinner I had the Beef Ravioli for an appetizer and the Palo Tenderloin for the entree. For dessert I had the chocolate soufle. It was good, but I honestly prefer the grand mariner soufle in royal court!

The after dinner cocktail drink they give you was SO good!! And we got this little added surprise since it was the night of our anniversary :-)

We were SO full from dinner and Alex was an outstanding server! So much so that we requested him for our brunch a couple days later :-)

While on the subject of Palo, I'll talk about brunch... it was awful. Well, actually, I'm sure it was super yummy but the seas were so rough that Tim and I felt SUPER sick but we didn't want to cancel brunch.

I hardly ate a thing. The only thing I could stomach was the chilled strawberry soup. I had two of those. Alex felt really bad and kept offering us stuff (almost to the point of being awkward lol). He was trying to be so nice and making sure we were completely satisfied, but we just wanted to lay down lol.

Sooooo ya win some and ya lose some. :-) We have had brunch before as I already mentioned so we know it is awesome and Im sure we would have had another incredible experience had we been feeling better!

....After our dinner we booked it to our room to get into OUR PIRATES COSTUMES!!!

We went up to the top deck and had awesome views of the fireworks :-) It was such a special way for us to celebrate our anniversary :-)

Thanks for the review & belated happy anniversary. We did western on Fantasy Dec 2012 for DD's 10th birthday and our 20th anniversary. Was an amazing trip - made especially so by cast members. Loved it so much we're going back May 31 to eastern. Palo review helpful - we did Remy last time but looking forward to Palo dinner this time.

Thank you :-) I would like to do the Western itinerary! And aren't cast members the BEST? We had incredible cast members on the Fantasy! I miss being a cast member every day! I loved being able to make magical memories for the guests. I miss it so much that I would almost volunteer to work there again. I had FUN doing it. I never once considered it "work". I hope you enjoy Palo dinner as much as we did!!

I got it while we were in St. Thomas, wasted no time! LOL I got a two in one bottle from a brand called Sheridan's that was like $18, it was perfect but it's not sold in the states. :(

Well that's just unfortunate that they don't sell it in the states. I think my hubby and I alone would make it worth it for them lol :rotfl2:

Entertainment

Okay, I'm going to start this off with a personal opinion (disclaimer: The whole trip report is a personal opinion) but I understand that this one, people really may not agree with what I say...

GET INVOLVED!!!!!!:cool1::thumbsup2

Don't be afraid to volunteer to be up on stage, don't be afraid to play game shows at night, don't be afraid to get to know your fellow cruisers... join those cruise meets, get out there... have FUN!...don't be afraid to act like a total fool ! What are the chances that you will ever see those people again? Slim to none, right?

You might be thinking, "but crissa, my FAMILY *gasp!* is with me...".... well, who cares? They are your family and they are stuck with you. They will get over it and so will you :rotfl2::lmao:

I think getting involved absolutely makes the cruise worth it and while I don't have many photos from this category, I will explain how we got involved!

Facebook & DisBoards

About 8 months before we set sail, I became an active member in our cruise board on here and joined or cruise group that was made on Facebook. At first I thought it would be "weird" because Tim and I are in our 20's and a lot of people were a bit older than we were, but I very quickly discovered that it DOESN'T MATTER!! We had a BLAST getting to know them online and an even BIGGER blast seeing them and meeting them in person! It's so cool to be traveling with just each other, and having people NOT in your travel party recognize you and stop you in the middle of the ship saying they had been looking for you every where and can't believe they finally met you. :thumbsup2 I talk to our cruise meet friends more than I talk to my friends from high school and college... so that's saying something :-) The magic of Disney brings people together in a total different way than anything I've witnessed before :-) :thumbsup2

Adult Only Activities

If you are on a Disney Cruise and you are an adult, TAKE ADVANTAGE of the adult only places! Disney Cast Members actually do a really good job keeping kids out of the adult areas and the cast members in the entertainment area for the adult stuff are the ones that ALWAYS get mentioned on the comment cards for us! They work SO hard to make sure you are having fun! Two cast members that I would like to make special mention of on our sailing are: Robin and Kaitlyn!

The photo on the right is Robin. He was awesome. He was the host of many shows such as Battle of the sexes (that's me kicking butt for the ladies in battle of the sexes in the photo on the left), the Match Your Mate show- which is by far the most entertaining activity. The amount of laughter is just insane... and he was around for many other activities too like trivia, bingo, so on...

Even TIM got up and volunteered for Battle of the Sexes!! One of our cruise meet friends is playing against him :-) It was a true battle :thumbsup2:good vibes

And you don't have to do just the "adult" activities!! Go to the family ones as well. We had some time to kill before dinner one night so we went to a family game show themed around Snow White... It was hysterical! Tim was chosen to be a dwarf and I have never laughed so hard in my life!! :rotfl::lmao::rotfl: We just love to make memories!!

Hidden Gems

Please, I cannot stress this enough... CHECK OUT YOUR DAILY NAVIGATORS!!! these will be your best friends on the cruise if you want to get involved! With doing this, we discovered the "Art of the theme show" Tour. This was done by our favorite: Kaitlyn!

It's a tour for those guests 18+. You meet in Meridian Lounge (the bar between Palo and Remy) and it's a walking tour around the ship. Kaitlyn was FULL of interesting facts- some of which I knew and some of which I didn't. When we were at the airport heading home, we met a family that had been on our ship and we were sharing stories. We started talking about this tour and the mom said I gave her chills while telling her some facts! So I will share a couple facts we learned!

#1. In Remy, did you know that there are little stools by each table? Many wonder what these are for... it is for ladies purses. Many thought it was inappropriate for a lady's bag to ever touch the floor, so wa-la!! Us ladies have our very own stool to set our hand bags on :-)

#2 (chill factor)... The colors on the Disney fleet are designed after which character? If you said Mickey Mouse, you would be correct! That's obvious though... what are the colors? If you said Red, white, yellow and black you would be WRONG! :good vibes

The yellow is called "mickey yellow" for the life boats. It was specifically designed and approved by the coast guard to match especially so it looked like mickeys' shoe color.

And there is not one ounce of "black" on the outside of the ship! It was thought to be to aggressive looking for a family friendly Disney Ship. So imagineers looked all over for a very special shade of very dark BLUE! One day a lady came into work wearing these dark blue pants and they said LADY!!! Take off those pants!!!... so when Disney tells you to take off your pants, you take off your pants!:rotfl: The color is forever named "Monica Blue" after the lady with the inspirational pants! :thumbsup2

Pre Dinner Shows

I know I will be in the minority when I say this, but I was VERY disappointed that the Golden Mickey's were not on this cruise. It is my favorite show, hand's down. I just get such a kick out of seeing Goofy fly down those stairs in the very beginning!

All in all though, the broadway style shows were great! Everyone mentioned though how amazing Aladdin was, and to be honest, I liked it, but I didn't think it was any better than any of the other shows... I was quite put off at the fact that they were missing ABU! it's just not Aladdin without ABU! like...seriously? You had 249742947197 genies, but you can't have Aladdin's Monkey! :confused3

I think my favorite show was actually Buckets and Boards!:cool1::thumbsup2

My mom and dad saw them on the Fantasy the year before us and said if we do ANYTHING on this cruise, we HAVE to see them! So we made sure not to miss it! We actually saw them THREE TIMES on board!!! They were incredible. There is no other way to put it. Just absolutely incredible. We first saw them for the family show. Then they had an adult only show so we sat front row for that one hoping they would pick someone from the audience in which case I was going to jump up and down hoping to be selected...no such luck! And then on the last night they had a little bit for the see ya real soon farewell show. I cried.

They were super nice people too! As you can see by the photo, I talked to them after one of their shows. Such down to earth guys :-) I also saw them up by the pools one day and said hi :wave2: :good vibes

DON'T MISS THEM! they aren't on every sailing but if you happen to be sailing with them, you will be happy you saw them!

Movies on Board

Our sailing had the PremEAR of Thor 2. We didn't watch it. It was at midnight and we just couldn't stay awake... and we had not seen the original Thor but a lot of people went to it from my understanding :-)

And I really can't talk too much about the movie theater... what I CAN say is this: They have SUPER comfortable seats in there. I know this, because EVERY SINGLE TIME I go in to watch a movie, I end up falling asleep. Every Single Time. Without Fail.

It's dark, your comfortable, you've been out in the sun all day, chances are you have a full tummy from the buffets, and it's off to lala land for me. All the time. I kid you not.

So, I'm sure the movies are good :confused3:good vibes But I couldn't tell you lol

I do know this, the snacks that they sell outside the theater are for PURCHASE... not free. I can also tell you I have seen people bring in plates of food and drinks from the buffets and have not been stopped.

Overall, Disney is a company KNOWN for entertainment. If you chose to go on a Disney cruise, you will NOT be disappointed. Period. (note: another personal opinion) :good vibes

well, that was quite the wordy update! If you're still with me, thank you!

Up next: Selfies: because everyone loves a selfie.

Selfies and other "cell"fies

Since these are all so random, I guess I'll just explain as I go along :good vibes

L- In the elevator... we hardly had people in the elevators with us, so it was always a good time for a quick selfie :-)
M- waiting for a show to start
R- my formal night hair

Tim and I loved that Christmas tree :-)... Tim leaving the DVC members meeting! Free DVC Hat and Padfolio :-) ... Me at dinner the first night at Animators

We spent a lot of time on top deck watching the last sunset :lovestruc, and taking photos around the ship like in "my" throne... and goofing around after we got out of our formal night attire :-)

Tim loved laying in the big port holes :rotfl:

So this update really sucked. My apologies. I think the next update will be about the three main restaurants: Royal Court, Animators Pallate and Enchanted Garden...

And I need your feedback: I never did a "dream" review from our trip last year... Would you like to see that report in here too? I could add a comparison component to it? thoughts? :scratchin

Dining

The Fantasy has three different dining rotations. Your dining team will follow you to each restaurant so you will have the same wait staff and table mates throughout your cruise.

The Rotations are:
RAERAER
AERAERA
ERAERAE

R= Royal Court
A= Animators Palate
E= Enchanted Garden.

I had called a couple months before sailing and requested the AERAERA rotation since that would put us eating at Palo when we would have been in Animators for Pirate night (which that is where we ate at on the Dream on Pirate night so we were ok missing it) and it would give us formal night at Enchanted Garden.

We also requested a private table for two. On the dream we had 8 other table mates, so a table for 10. We had the BEST table mates in the whole entire world but this time we wanted to try it out just the two of us. In this specific update I'm just going to go into what I ate and what I thought about it, but in my next update I'm going to go into detail about every aspect of the ship, so I'll touch on why I prefer/don't prefer table mates.

**We were granted both requests

Nightly Menu Break Downs

Night 1: Rotational Menu/Crush if Animators
Night 2: Rotational Menu/Crush if Animators
Night 3: Rotational Menu/Crush if Animators
Night 4: Pirates Menu All Restaurants
Night 5: Prince and Princess Menu All Restaurants
Night 6: Captain's Gala Menu All Restaurants
Night 7: See ya Real Soon Menu All Restaurants

Now, Keep in mind: I am the absolute most picky person in the entire world. And I found something on every menu to eat. Our waitstaff was really good in offering us recommendations based upon what they learned we liked, and consistently making sure we were taken care of. They were outstanding.

Animators Palate / Crush Show
Apt: Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes
This was probably my most favorite thing I ate in the entire cruise. These were ridiculously delicious. Absolutely perfect.
Soup/Salad: Baked Potato and cheddar cheese soup: Good! Nothing to write home about, but good.
Entre: Lemon Thyme Marinated All Natural Chicken Breast on top of Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes...delicious! Very impressed!
Dessert: White Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake: decent. appropriate serving size: anything more than what I got, I probably wouldn't have eaten it.

Enchanted Garden / Formal Night
Cocktail:Nutty Summer: Vanilla vodka, creme de cacao white, baileys, galliano, vanilla mix... in my opinion, this was WAY too small of a drink. It was far too good to be so small.
Apt: North Atlantic Lobster Ravioli... gross. I tried it on the Dream as well and I didn't like it but thought I would give it a second chance... nope. Still gross. Not impressed.
Entre: Slow Roasted Prime Rib... this was VERY good. VERY good!!

Royal Court: We skipped dinner in the dining room this night- instead, we ate by the pool and rode the aqua duck at night time when there was NO line! I'm sad about missing the dining room because it meant i missed my FAVORITE dessert in the entire ship: The grand mariner soufflé.

Animators: pirate night: We skipped this night too as this was the night we ate in Palo

Enchanted Garden: Prince and Princess Menu
Apt: Princess Madeleine Salmon Royal... this was not good. Im used to my salmon being cooked and this was like sushi. I wasn't impressed but i also wasn't that hungry so I declined any other appetizer.
Entre: Peppercorn crusted New York Strip... this was really good!! A big serving size, too! Very tasty!
Dessert: Prince charming chilled chocolate soufflé

Royal Court: Captains Gala Menu
No Appetizer- feeling kind of sea sick
Entre:: Fettuccine with parmesan crusted chicken- This was super delicious and bland enough that it didn't upset my already queasy stomach!
Dessert: warm chocolate lava cake: this was really good, just a tad too much! A little rich for my preference. But still good!

Animators: See Ya Real Soon Menu
Entre: Slow Roasted Breast of Chicken w/ baked potato... very good!
Dessert: Chocolate Decadence... i love my chocolate :-) It was super good!

Overall, the food was really good. I tend to steer clear of things I haven't necessarily tried before that are way different than usual such as escargot or things like that. My stomach freaks out if i put really different things in it and I'd hate to be sick on vacation.
Tim tried new and different foods though and really enjoyed them!

Great trip report!! Do you happen to remember the measurements for the Irish Connection? I've been trying to recreate....

Thanks,
Ginny

Overall Review of Vacation (be prepared, this could get lengthy!)

So I spent a good hour or so scrolling through various trip reports to compile a "best of the best" list of topics to discuss that we actually saw/heard/experienced during our vacation. A couple of these topics are from Walt Disney World but the majority of them are based on the Fantasy. I'll make sure to clarify. Depending on how long it takes me to type all of this up, will depend on how far I get in each "session". I don't remember the user names of the people I got these awesome descriptive lists, but know that I did not come up with the majority of these items and I thank the people who came up with them so people like me can be organized for people like you, the readers :cool1:

Here goes nothing! Let's Start with the basic overall questions:

1. How many times have you sailed DCL:
This was my 5th DCL cruise and my 6th overall cruise (I sailed on a Carnival ship once)

2. Which DCL ships have you been on:
Wonder (twice), Magic, Dream and Fantasy

3. Which is your favorite DCL restaurant/why:
Animators Palate- because generally speaking, the food is more "my taste" and i absolutely LOVE the theme!

4. Favorite DCL memories:
Driving to the port and seeing the ship for the first time, hearing my family name as we are welcomed aboard, hearing the horn for the first time as we sail away!

5. Favorite Port of Call:
That I have been to while on Disney: Castaway Cay
That I have been to on another line: Cayman Islands

6. Favorite Excursion:
Disney: Parasailing on Castaway Cay / Atlantis Beach Break on Nassau
Other line: Swimming with the stingray/dolphins in Cayman Islands

7. Favorite On Board Activity:
Going to the shows before dinner!

Next installment... things get deep!

Great trip report!! Do you happen to remember the measurements for the Irish Connection? I've been trying to recreate....

Thanks,
Ginny

I don't :-( I know in a full shaker worth, it made 5 drinks, which I'm assuming were much smaller like "sample" sizes that we drank in class. I want to say each ingredient was like a healthy "count to 5" pour. But I'm really not certain. :confused3 Sorry I couldn't help you out more!

Here We Go!

These are things that we actually encountered during our vacation, there are many other categories, such as kids clubs, that are a big component of a Disney Cruise, but I've never stepped foot inside of one, so I can't really comment on them. With that being said, I present to you: My Overall Trip Report!

Booking
My parents own into DVC and they weren't able to go on vacations, so they booked our hotel and cruise for us using DVC points. From there, I received confirmation numbers so I could log online and do online check in's and book excursions. My mom really enjoys owning into DVC and says the booking process is very easy. I don't have personal experience with this, but I've never had a problem accessing anything online with the confirmation numbers that they give me.
They booked us a 2 Bedroom Villa at the new Villas at the Grand Floridian and a Category 8B stateroom on the Fantasy. This was one of those rooms that were unassigned, so we didn't know our location until about 30 days prior to sailing- we had the chance for an upgrade, but did not receive one. We were booked in room 9004, which is WAY forward on deck 9.

Transportation Used
From Indianapolis, we took Southwest Airlines to Orlando International. We hopped on Magical Express which took us to Disney's Grand Floridian. From the Grand, we took free bus transportation to DTD and then back to the Grand... and then the free monorail to and from the Magic Kingdom. We booked DCL bus transportation to the Fantasy (note: this is NOT free), and also booked it from the Fantasy back to Orlando International at the end of our trip. We booked United Airlines back from Orlando to Indianapolis.
The reason we booked magical express and DCL transportation was because it's just easier for us to do it that way. We enjoy the fact that we don't have to worry about getting our luggage and carrying everything around with us. We also took part in DCL's onboard airline check in program. This is when DCL will check you into your flights and print your boarding passes for you. This is just another really nice option (that is FREE!). It's one less thing that we have to worry about. Please take note though, that in order to participate in DCL bus transportation, only certain airlines participate. One reason that we booked Southwest TO orlando and United BACK, was because Southwest is NOT one of the participating airlines with DCL. They participate in Magical Express, but NOT DCL.

Magic Bands
I have a love/hate relationship with Magic Bands, and I knew I would since they are still so new. Overall the idea is awesome but there are still a lot of kinks that they are working out. For people like us, who would only be there one night and we only had a Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party Ticket, or a "special event ticket" as Disney calls them, it was pointless for us to have the magic bands. You cannot, as of november, add your special event tickets to your magic bands. Nor can you book fast pass plus for a special event since fast pass is not available for them.
The only thing we could really use our magic bands for were, entering our hotel room, scanning them upon arriving at the Magical Express area at Orlando International Airport, and scanning for our dining plan.
If we would have had charging privileges on our hotel account, we could have done that, too... but I don't like to do that. I'm too paranoid about things getting in the wrong hands.
I do, however, like that each time you had to swipe your band at a place that took "payment" you had to enter a pin number. So say you lost your magic band and some body tried to buy something once they found it... they would be unsuccessful unless they knew your pin number. That part, I like... even though it didn't matter to us, it's good to know for next time.

Check In at the Grand
Overall, check in was easy. We were greeted once stepping off of the Magical Express bus by a cast member that walked us to the front desk at the main building of the Grand Floridian. We were able to go straight to a cast member who proceeded to tell us EVERYTHING about Walt Disney World. Having worked the front desk at a Walt Disney World Resort before, I know she was just doing her job and she was very good at it, too... but it wasn't necessary for me to hear the whole thing so I told her that we used to be cast members only a few years ago and we know how things work. She still proceeded to explain everything to us, which was a tad bit annoying, but oh well :goodvibes

The Villa's building is about a 5-8 minute leisurely walk from the main building, so we just handed our carry on bags to bell services. Once we got into our room, we called bell services to have them deliver our luggage and ...they couldn't find it...:scared1: . Then they called us back about 3 minutes later saying they found it and it would be up in about 15 minutes.

The Hotel Room
The Villa portion of the Grand Floridian had just had its Grand Opening the week prior to us getting there, so I'm thinking MAYBE two families had been in the room before us, so I was expecting the room to be in perfect condition. And it was. Once we got into the room, we did have housekeeping come twice and maintenance come twice to replace things/fix a couple things they had notes about. But that was all done within 10 minutes of us being there so it wasn't a big deal... I did think that it should have been done prior to us being allowed to check in, but, the place had just opened up so I'm sure they were still trying to figure out a few things. No big deal.

The condition of the furniture, floors, appliances, beds, bathrooms, EVERYTHING was top notch. I was very impressed. The only thing I didn't like were the bed mattresses. I personally thought they were to hard, but Tim seemed to like them, so it just boils down to personal preference. Nothing I was going to complain about as they really have no way of pleasing absolutely everyone :-)

My favorite part of the room though, was our view! We were there celebrating our two year anniversary and we had been married at the wedding pavilion which was just right next door to the Grand... and we had an absolutely beautiful view of the wedding pavilion from our deck. It was perfect. :cloud9:

Check in: Cruise
Once we arrived at the terminal around 12:30pm (we were picked up from the Grand Floridian at 10am and had two stops before going to port), it took us about 5 minutes to go through security. Then we went up the escalator and over to the Castaway Club check in line  From there, we waited about 10 minutes to get to a cast member and then it took us about 5 minutes at the desk. Since we had just sailed the year before, we didn't have to take another KTTW card photo, they just used our old one, and we were given our boarding number... by this time, though, they had already began boarding and we were allowed to walk right on. The whole process was very easy and we didn't have a problem at all.
Some people like to get there as soon as the port opens. Im not one of those people. I get so bored having to wait around for our boarding number to be called then once Im on the ship, I get so bored waiting for our room to be ready... I'd rather sleep in a bit, take a nice bus ride to port, and be able to walk right on the ship, go up and get lunch and have our room be ready! No waiting around! :yay:

Room on Cruise / Room Host
Our room was 9004, way forward on Deck 9. The room itself was awesome. We were category 8B and had a large port hole, queen size bed, couch, PLENTY of storage space, split bath (sink & Toilet / sink & Round shower). Everything was in working condition.
Our room host was great, too! It always surprises me how they know your names so quickly. We could see him up by the pool and he'd be like "hey crissa and tim!"... :scared1: of all the thousands of people they see a day... I'm just shocked!
He always had really cute towel animals for us and he was a trooper with our bizarre schedules that changed nightly... some times we'd do dinner and the show giving him plenty of cleaning time, some times we'd skip the dining room and some times we'd come back to change and we never stuck to one schedule. He always made sure we had plenty of amenities in our room and I never had to ask him for more. At the end of the cruise as he was explaining our survey to us, he thanked us for being so nice to him.... :scared1: Did he imply that people were NOT nice to him? How can you NOT be nice to someone that cleans up after you? How inconsiderate are people? :confused3 that sure shocked me! But we always made sure to say hi and smile as we saw him! :goodvibes

...more to come...

Elevators
Some people complain that the elevators are so slow... you just have to know how to use them. If you go to mid ship deck 3 right after a show or dinner, yeah... you're going to wait a while... if you walk a few feet to the forward or aft elevators you won't have a wait at all... know your ship and how to use it:goodvibes

With that being said, even when we used deck 3 mid ship elevators, we hardly had a wait... except for right after the shows. Those were the worst times to use them. Overall, they were always clean and never broke down.

Public Bathrooms
Does anyone even use these? I ask because they never looked used! They are always SO clean! Obviously, I've never had a problem in them. I will say though, that some of them have mirrors on the ceiling and have scared the daylights out of me once I realize that... I'm not sure why this is :confused3 but overall, the public bathrooms get a big :thumbsup2!

Dining Rooms / Wait Staff

Wait Staff
I wish I could remember their names! I know our main server was Gavin. I can't remember our assistants name, but I did for the survey so I guess that's what is most important. They were OUTSTANDING! The first night we had each ordered a coke to drink, and every night we had one waiting for us without even asking. On the Dream, we had a table of 10 and would be in the dining room for about 2 1/2 hours every night waiting for everyone to get their food and socializing. Generally speaking, Tim and I like to eat and leave so we were SHOCKED the first night when we were only there for an hour!
Gavin would always offer us recommendations and if I didn't like something he would always make sure I was totally satisfied. He asked us 3 times throughout our cruise what we thought of the service and if there was anything he or his team could improve on. We were just so impressed. The first time he asked me that, i mentioned how impressed i was and how we generally like to eat and get on with the night time activities and he made sure to remember that.

One night, we were LEAVING for the night as the table by us was just getting their entree! It was crazy. Did I mention we were impressed? Because we totally were!

Animators
This is my favorite restaurant. This restaurant alone JUST FOR THE TECHNOLOGY USED cost disney over 30 MILLION dollars to make. So please, take time to appreciate it!!
The first night there was the crush show. I thought for sure that we wouldn't get any interaction since we were just a couple adults, but WE TOTALLY DID!!! Crush was HYSTERICAL :rotfl: if felt like he talked to me FOREVER and he used what I said to start conversations with three other tables!! OMGosh it was the best! It made my night and it was such an awesome way to start out the cruise!:yay::thumbsup2
We missed Pirate night in there due to eating at Palo, but the last night we ate there was the animation drawing show and that was such a blast! It brought tears to my eyes as I saw our drawings dancing on screen with the other disney characters!! It was bittersweet knowing that it was our last night on board!

Enchanted Garden
Generally speaking, this is my least favorite restaurant. I just don't really care for the menus. The theming is really neat and I enjoy seeing the sky change from dusk to dawn but I'm not a fan of the menu typically. I don't know what else to say about this restaurant. It's just "meh" to me.

Royal Court
Nice restaurant, decent menu, but the theming just isn't there for me. I mean, it HAS theming but I enjoy the "show" more than a place that nothing really happens. It's nice though.

Pool Area Food and Cabanas
This food is just okay. It's cooked fine and tastes okay but after 7 nights it gets a little old. The breakfast in cabanas has a good assortment, I think. I normally go for the Krispy Kreme's, hash browns, sausage, etc. Depending on when you go (total luck) you'll either get fresh stuff or stuff that's been out for a while. The freshness of breakfast is a hit or miss.
I normally feel like lunch is pretty fresh all of the time and they have a lot to pick from for lunch.
Generally speaking, I like cabanas and I feel like since I'm so picky, this is a great option for me. I feel like the dining rooms normally have some stuff for lunch that is a little more than what I'm looking for and by the pool/cabanas I can typically find mac n cheese, chicken strips, burgers, pizza, stuff that is kid f/picky eater friendly.

Special Requests/Magical Moments

A couple months before we sailed I called DCL and requested a table for two in the dining rooms and a specific dining rotation of AERAERA, which i was granted both requests.
The important thing to keep in mind here with requests are that they are never guaranteed but from my understanding they do everything in their power to grant them. If you have any special requests, it certainly wouldn't hurt giving DCL a call! :-) They are really willing to do everything in their power to make guests' vacations better!!

As far as magical moments go: the last time we ate at Royal Court our server told us not to leave because he had a surprise for us: ... They gave us a special happy anniversary cake :-) we got one on the dream too! It was cute! They sang to us and made us kiss every time they said "happy anniversary!" lol :rotfl:

The important thing here to keep in mind is: DON'T EXPECT things like this to happen! If you do, and they don't happen, you will be disappointed and your vacation will be ruined. Just be happy that you get to spend time on vacation and that you aren't at work or school and if special stuff happens, AWESOME! :yay:... and if it doesn't, oh well :-) Hopefully you were living your vacation to the fullest and made many happy vacation memories!!

Palo

Palo Dinner was out of this world delicious! Our server was really good and we requested him for Brunch, too! After experiencing both Brunch and Dinner, I can officially say that I prefer Dinner.... but brunch is really good too. We just felt so sea sick when we ate brunch so we didn't enjoy it as much just because we weren't feeling well.
Palo recently decided to charge 25 dollars/person instead of the usual 20/person and I'd still gladly pay that any day. A meal like that, with that view ... you can't get that in Indy... you can get similar food, but it will cost you much more than 25/person!
For dinner: the beef tenderloin and beef ravioli are outstanding! For brunch, the strawberry soup and chicken parm are delightful!

...still more to come!...

Room Service
We utilized room service a couple of times. I think Tim got a BLT, we got the chicken fingers a couple times, the mac and cheese, the cheese pizza, I'm pretty sure we tried the wings, and of course...mickey bars! The wait time was always about 15 minutes, not bad at all! But the food was just "okay" not bad, but not like "omgosh amazing!!" I would put it in the same category as "food by the pool".

Wave Phones
I personally think these are a waste of time and desk space. They are GREAT for a family, who splits up a lot. I get that. Tim and I never use them. We are always together and on the rare circumstances that we separate, we come up with a meeting time and place. Wave phones are not for us, but they come in very handy for some people so there's that.

Family Activities
There are PLENTY of family activities on board...afterall, it is a DISNEY ship. For this, I'm going to focus on the show "Mirror, Mirror" since that is the only real "family" show we went to. It was super funny! They picked "adult volunteers" from the show, and Tim was one of them! His team actually won! I'm still not to sure what it was actually about but the Cast Members that ran it were super funny and I'm glad we went to it :-)

Wow... short update for today! That's what I get for working a morning shift... I'm a night shift kind of girl... I'm super sleepy!! I'm pretty sure I'll finish this up tomorrow!!

Then If Im feeling up to it, I'll post some photos from our "dream" cruise in October 2012 with descriptions of excursions and such :-) ...Maybe ... :-)

Pools
I have only gone in the adult pool/hot tubs. I won't step foot in the pools that kids can go in lol. I do enjoy the adult pool though. I also really like serenity falls as well :-) I find them to be very relaxing and I love that the adult pool has a bar in it :thumbsup2 I find that the best time to go swimming is at night time when everyone else is at the shows/dinner. We had the pool, hot tub and aqua duck to ourself! It was awesome!

Mid Ship Detective Agency
This is something that we skipped doing on the Dream but LOVED to do on the Fantasy! We just felt like we didn't have enough time to do it on the shorter cruises. But on the Fantasy, we did all three games and had a blast! We saw a lot of adults participating in this. We've heard that it's a huge work out and we didn't really feel that way at all, so it's all good :-) I say, DO IT! it's fun! You don't need to do all 3, but we did and loved it!

Bingo
My thoughts on this: Don't waste your time or money. Is it fun? Yes. Will you win? Probably not. If you do win, it's not a lot of money. You might break even. lol. Tim and I don't play it because we simply can't afford it. When I've been cruising with my parents we have played it and had fun, but we never win and it's like 60 ish bucks a game. it adds up fast. For us that like to get a few souvineers, we'd rather not spend our money on Bingo. Personal preference.

Tastings
The only tastings that we have done are Mixology. I can not stress enough how amazing this is. It's $15 bucks per person. Each person gets behind the bar and makes a drink. I made 5 servings of one. You get to drink a total of 5 drinks so for 15 bucks, that's totally worth it! I thought the class was very fun and I learned a lot, while getting to drink:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I wil do this on every cruise i go on from here on out.

Photo Opp's and Shutters
There are a million photo opportunities on board. Not always are there shutter's people around, but my point here: Bring a camera.
Shutters charges and arm and a leg, and your first born child for a small print but if "professional portraits" are your thing, then they have that available. You will find them at the grad staircase, the statue in the atrium, by the christmas tree during the holidays, with most character meets, before you board the ship on the first day, around castaway cay, sometimes at dinner, they have some back drops set up during dinner hours, etc. They do have packages that you can buy that give you some discounts, but we normally buy one or two photos and call it a day. The shutters photographers will take photos with your own camera for you... but in my personal experience they never "know" how to work Tim's camera... he has a canon 60D. it's not like it's rocket science. You push the little button just like a normal camera. :confused3

Fish Extenders / Door Magnets
We did the Fish Extender on the Dream and had fun with it. Here's our main thought about it though... while on a Disney Vacation you get wrapped up in the cute little Disney things... then for us we get home and we don't know why we have so many little disney knick knacks. It's also hard to pack a lot of stuff for fish extenders. So for that reason, we decided not to participate in one on the fantasy. They are a lot of fun though to participate and if you have kids, it would probably be even more fun for them to get in on it!

Door Magnets are more our (my) thing. I have fun printing them out and decorating our door :-) There is no real reason to do it as far as I'm aware of, but it's just fun, and helps you find your door in the middle of all the others!! I love looking at the creativity of people as I'm walking down the halls on board :-) Some people get REALLY creative and I think that's awesome!

Character Interactions
There are always character meet and greet opportunities around on board. Check your daily navigators for times and locations. If it says someone will be out at 9, get there by 845 just to make sure you don't have to wait forever. UNLESS it's the princess gathering... then get there much earlier than that. That line gets CRAZY.
If you're lucky... you might also get surprised and have random characters show up to sun bathe with you, or take an elevator ride with you, or grab ice cream with you on deck... so on ... they are everywhere!

...more to come!...

Now that's the way a TR should be done...really enjoyed your style of writing and your lay out. Had not heard of a Baby Guinness but know my hubby will be trying one on our upcoming cruise and thanks for the info about the Skyline Passport.

Thanks!! :goodvibes
I feel like I still have so many more categories to write about lol. I was hoping that someone would be reading this and it's not all just for nothing :-) Thanks for joining in!!

Ports of Call

On this particular cruise we went to : St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay. I had been to all of them before and while there are a number of excursions that we could have picked from, we didn't do any. To be honest, I really didn't even feel like getting off of the ship. We did get off though and we just walked around, stayed close to the ship, looked in some shops and snapped a couple photos and went back on board. The exception to this is Castaway. Now THIS is the island to enjoy :-) If you have not been there before, the Disney ships are the only ones that are there so the only people you have to deal with are those that are on your sailing. The beaches are perfect, the water is perfect, the sun is SUEPR INTENSE so please wear sunscreen!! The cast members from the cruise work on the island as well, so your entertainment staff plans fun activities, they have a couple places throughout the island that have free bar-b-q's and anything you buy you use your KTTW card, so no need to bring cash out with you! It might be my favorite place in the entire world :goodvibes

On previous cruises I have also been to: Nassau, Cayman Islands, and Falmouth Jamaica. They are all nice, I really enjoyed The Cayman Islands but that is because of the excursions we did...which is next.

Excursions
Since we all know now, that we didn't book excursions this trip, I'll briefly mentions ones I have done before:

Cayman Islands: Swam with the dolphins and stingray. This was incredible. The stingray were in the middle of the ocean at a sand bar, so they were "wild" stingray so they definitely make you sign waivers and stuff because anything can happen, but... it was SO COOL!!! The dolphin part was more of an enclosed area where they contain the dolphins. It was super fun, but I had done it a few times before on other vacations. I was more impressed with the stingrays.

Nassau: Went to Atlantis Hotel to hang at the beaches. This was fun! It was about a 15 minute or so bus ride to the hotel and we had the option of 3 different beaches to relax at. If we would have upgraded our wristbands (for something like an additional $75 bucks/person :sad2:) we could have used the hotel pools as well. We did not do that. Our excursion also let us talk a self guided tour of the aquarium which was pretty neat!

Castaway: We always rent water tubes and floaty stuff... but I've also been parasailing here before. It was really fun and you get an amazing view of the ship. I believe they only let you go up to 400 feet. And the time up I felt was really short. Ive been parasailing in hawaii before and they let me go up something like 1200 feet and it felt like a much longer time. I preferred that! But it was still fun in Castaway :-)

My sister has done the stingray excursion at castaway and she said she really liked it. It's not as intense as the thing we did in the Cayman islands so this may be the option for the people who want to see them and feed them but don't want to get all up in their business. :thumbsup2

I found some photos from these excursions, so after I'm done with my write ups, i'll post some more photos with brief explanations :-)

Entertainment
Deck Shows: We have only ever seen the sail away show. But we aren't really paying full attention to it since ya know... we have drinks in our hand and theres about 439479127192 things on our mind of things we want to check out and do :-)

Stage Shows
We learned before that "The Golden Mickey's" are my favorite!! This show, however, was not on the Fantasy and I was heart broken :lmao: . I got over it though. Because the shows that ARE on the Fantasy are amazing. These are the shows we saw...
1. Night one: A Fantasy Come True: This was cute! It introduced you to the performers and showed a cute description of what to look forward to the next week on board! I liked it!
2. Aladdin: I liked it a lot... I just don't understand to this day, how you can have a show about Aladdin when you include the magic carpet and Genie, but NO ABU! :confused3 I just don't get it.
3. Wishes: I liked it. Im glad I saw it. I don't know if I'll see it again though.
4. Believe: Same thing. Liked it, glad I saw it, but I don't know if I'll see it again
5. An Unforgetable Journey: oh dear. This is done on the last night and i was a sobbing wreck. I'm a very emotional person and I cried through the whole thing. it was awful. I mean it was so good... but thinking back through the week at the lovely times my husband and I had, and the friendships we made, and the cast members we met, and then over my entire vacation history and employment with Disney and all that... i couldn't stop crying. lol Happy tears of course.
6. Buckets and Boards: You have to see them if they are on your sailing. You just HAVE to. I cried again... from laughing so hard! They are amazing and super duper funny! I loved it. So much so, that we saw them perform three times while we were on board.
7. Comedy and Ventriloquism of Lynn Trefzger: I saw her adult only act and it was super funny. Tim went to her family show while I slept in and got ready for the day and he said it was really funny! I cought the last 10 minutes or so of it and liked it :-)
8.Magic and Illusion of Shawn Farquhar: I won't waste my time with him again. We saw him a couple times...family show and adult show. I was only impressed a couple times by a couple card tricks he did. Other than that I guess I was expecting a lot more for the hype they gave him.

Movies on Board
If you have nothing else to do or are looking for a great place to take a nap, check out the movie theater! I say take a nap because that's what happened every time I went in the theater. I always fell asleep :rotfl2: . Not by choice either... i always WANTED to see the show playing, but I just always ended up falling asleep. :confused3

Adult Activities
Match Your Mate is a must do. The couples in this show become infamous through out your entire sailing and they are often referred to in other shows on board, so the jokes made at their expense won't be funny unless you see this show! Do it... trust me! It's a good time! It's Disney's version of a show like the newly wed game.
Battle of the Sexes Tim and I both participated in this show. It was fun, but I might pick something else to do next time.
Adult Scavanger Hunt absolutely hysterical... think of this "the first team to show me a man, wearing a woman's bra..." :rolleyes1 ... it's an 18+ event. You have to see it to believe it.

DVC and Adventures By Disney Presentations

You get free stuff. It's cool. My family is part of DVC but Tim and I went anyway because sometime in the future we are thinking about buying into it. It's also on the top of my bucket list to do an Adventures By Disney trip... I REALLY WANT TO DO THE AFRICA ONE!!! So we went to check that out too! When Im saying you get free stuff, we were one of three couples at the adventures meeting... and they gave out a free disney woven blanket to one couple (it wasn't us) ! It's nice stuff :-)! They didn't pressure us at any point but I will warn you that they sell their products well. I was thisclose to purchasing DVC that minute.

Internet on Board
It's expensive. But we did it. It's nice to bring your own computer and use the wifi in the guest rooms. It's pretty good wifi too, we even skyped with my parents back home late one night. Some people really enjoy being without all the technology and for a 4 or 5 night cruise, I can handle it. 7 nights was just too much. :rotfl2:

On Board Airline Checkin
This is a great service that Disney provides. You provide them with your flight information and they check you in on board, deliver your boarding passes to your room for you and take care of all that stuff for you so you don't have to worry about it at the airport. This is especially convenient if you have added DCL transportation services to the airport because then you don't have to worry about your luggage either. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 to Disney for always providing me with stress free vacations :goodvibes I'll gladly pay a few extra bucks so I don't have to worry about it! On board airline check in is FREE to use.

Tours: Art of the Theme Show
This is an absolutely incredible tour. I shared a couple facts earlier in my report that I learned and I could talk on and on and on and on about it. It's an adult only tour and I'm fairly certain it was free to do (after a while you just start swiping that KTTW card, don't ya!?! :lmao:). It is a walking tour, so if you aren't capable of doing the stairs, they will wait for you to take the elevator. We really REALLY enjoyed it and Kaitlyn, who gave the tour was just outstanding. She ended up being the Cast Member in charge of a lot of activities we went to, including trivia as well, so after a couple days she would see us around a lot and make special mention that she recognized us :thumbsup2. After thousands different people, i'm still not sure how they do it!

Debarkation / Breakfast
I hate this day more than anything in my life. Everyone is lugging their stuff around, the elevators suck and people are crabby because they are going home, the adults are stressed because the kids are out of control and sad they have to leave, the adults are also sad they have to leave, the cast members are running around like crazy animals trying to prep the ships turn around, it's just a hot mess of a day. No one enjoys it and therefore I think that the next time I'm on board they should just make a rule that we get to stay on the ship forever. :thumbsup2
Breakfast though... you eat in the same restaurant that you had your last dinner in. so for us, it was animators. It's always so sad because your wait staff becomes like your new best friends and everyone is saying goodbye to one another and it's just miserable.
I did learn though that cabanas IS open for breakfast the last morning and that they just don't advertise it. So there's that. We will probably do that the next cruise we go on.
Gosh... now that I'm depressed...

Spa
I got two services: I got my hair done for formal night... this was really nice. The lady I had was very good and I was very pleased with how it turned out. She got my "impossible to curl" hair to not only curl, but STAY curled... even in the windy upper decks!
I also got the fire and ice pedicure... can we talk about how heavenly that was? I'm a big fan of that.

On Board Shopping
You can find, name brand items such as handbags, jewelry, liquors... ornaments, clothing, toys and toiletries... pretty much anything you "forget" they have you covered :-)

On Board Laundry
I never wanted to be that girl that spends her vacation doing laundry, but I'm glad I did! The machines can be a little difficult to figure out how to use, but once I figured them out, I set the alarm on my cell phone to come back to change it out and we went and played midship detective while waiting... that's something that you don't have to do in one session- you can come back to it later, so that was really nice!

Overall Service
The overall service we received on this vacation was far above par. Every cast member always had a smile on their face, they were always cleaning, always pleasant, always willing to answer questions, and just overall pretty dang magical pixie dust:

Overall Condition of Ship
BEAUTIFUL. I didn't notice anything that looked like it needed to be upgraded or cleaned.

Well I guess that pretty much wraps it up! My next post or two will be of photos from other ships (Disney Dream) and the excursions I've been on with some descriptions... these excursions may not have been done ON Disney but I know Disney offers them... :-) :thumbsup2 I hope you all enjoyed my fantasy report! If you have any questions about the Fantasy I'd be happy to answer them for you :goodvibes

Yes! Everyone got a copy of the drink list :-) I couldn't guarantee mine would make it home in one piece so we took a picture of it lol :-) I *think* the passport can only be purchased on the first day as a special... don't hold me to that, but I think I read that some where. Just FYI so you don't miss out! l!!

Great info - thanks for the tip :)

Just curious if you had taken any meds to prevent sea sickness prior to your Palo Brunch or on the cruise at all ?

Just curious if you had taken any meds to prevent sea sickness prior to your Palo Brunch or on the cruise at all ?

Nope. After 5 cruises and never feeling sick before, I didn't' think I would need to take anything so I didn't bring anything. Now I know. :goodvibes
