We are trying to decide if MK may be too crowded on New Years Eve for us or not. I would like to hear personal experiences. If anyone has hung out @ MK, DD, Resort Resorts (fireworks) or EP on NYE what is your opinion? Was it fun or just too crowded? Would Dec 30 NYE fireworks be enough to satisfy?

Haven't done MK, but it does tend to reach capacity early in the day. We've done EPCOT but we found being there all day is just too much with the crowds so we go later, have dinner and walk around before the midnight Illuminations. As the night wears on, just walking becomes more and more difficult due to the music venues that are set up around the World Showcase that tend to block the walkways with all the people dancing.

The December 30th fireworks at MK are the same as the NYE fireworks, but you could easily have dinner at one of the monorail resorts and catch the fireworks from there if you don't want to deal with crowds.

Am I the only one who thought this was about an appearance by Bill Nye the Science Guy at WDW? :goodvibes

I have done MK on NYE.
The parks will fill to capacity, MK is usually the first park to fill. So around 10am, if not earlier. It be will be wall to wall people no matter which park you are in on NYE. Main St usually is bottlenecked and they open backstage areas to ease the congestion.
* ADRs are not a guarantee of admittance to the park.
* I would not suggest leaving the park as you probably will not be able to get back in.
* Disney resort guest are usually guaranteed admittance to a park, but it may not be the park of your choice.

Done NYE in MK, EC and HS. EC seemed to be the easiest maybe because of the spacing and open areas. We went in around 9am had dinner at 5pm and then waited until midnight for the countdown. I have never seen so many sleeping children everywhere in my life. They were asleep in the stores and stretched out on the grass. This is not a day for everyone. It takes patience, flexibility and endurance.

MK is typically the only park that fills to capacity and from what I've read here, MK usually opens back up early evening when a lot of families with young children are done. We've gone to Epcot around dinner time the last few NYEs that we went and had no problem at all getting in. In fact a lot of people were leaving. Although if we didn't get in, we had a plan B all ready to put in place. ;)

The CMs will warn you that if you don't get to the parks early and stay there, you might not get back in. I guess they have to say this in case it really does happen and there's always a chance it could. However, when we listened to that advice the first couple of times, we got to EPCOT early in the day and it was miserable walking around in wall to wall people till after midnight. So just keep the crowds into consideration when deciding where you want to be for NYE. For us a few hours is okay and actually fun, but more than that is torture.

I would definitely recommend December 30th fireworks. It's the same show and much, much less crowded. That's not to say that it won't be crowded - it will be very crowded, but not nearly as bad as NYE.

I wouldn't bother with MK on NYE - personal opinion. It's a small park and the most popular park. We've done DHS in the past and loved it. It's gotten a little old, so we did EPCOT for a little while last year and will spend the night at EPCOT this year.

EPCOT is so spread out. It's definitely PACKED - but it's easier to navigate the World Showcase than it is Main Street. Remember - you could stand almost anywhere in EPCOT and see the show. At MK, if you're not on MK, you miss a lot of the show/don't have the best angle. For this reason, I'd recommend EPCOT or DHS.

We were there last NYE and will be back again this year. Last year MK was closed by 10am to capacity. We were at Ak and then hopped over to EP around 4pm. We did the MK NYE fireworks 12/30 and they were great! This NYE we are doing AK and then a late dinner at O'hana. As for crowds, think so crowded that you cannot even see sidewalks because of all the people! It is nuts but we love it!

How was AK in the morning? I'm going to try for that (then early dinner at Ohana and then a quick visit to DHS for the Osborne Lights after dinner then back to the Poly for the NYE countdown with Lapu Lapu's in hand! :thumbsup2 )
