It just is a VERY popular night for Disney, and a LOT of fun. We love going on NYE, and often will start our vacation on that day.rantnnravin said:forgive my ignorance here, but...
why is that?
Absolutely! Each park has their own NYE celebration. We usually go to Epcot, because the midnight NYE fireworks after Illuminations are spectacular, and we like to do NYE dinner at one of the Epcot restaurants prior to that. Each country celebrates NYE at the time that it is New Years in that country. LOTS of fun.Santa said:Is there anything special that goes on NYE in the parks?
That sounds like a lot of fun, we can't wait. We are also planning on spending NYE in Epcot but are eating at the Blue Zoo in the Dolphin first.dianeschlicht said:Absolutely! That sounds like fun. Does Epcot fill to capacity on that night? Is it important to get through the gates prior to a certain time to be sure you get in that night? We're not going on NYE this year, but for future reference, I'm curious. Thanks!dianeschlicht said:Absolutely! Each park has their own NYE celebration. Yes or maybe. We have been there when the park closed admission gates at 3 PM, and folks had to stand outside the gates until they let more people in (when others left). This past January, there was no problem at all. One of our party came and went early in the evening, and it didn't appear to me that they closed the ticket gates down at all. It also didn't seem as crowded this year either. To make sure though, I would try to be in Epcot by early to mid afternoon.LisaS said:That sounds like fun. Does Epcot fill to capacity on that night? Thanks very much for the info. Spending NYE in Epcot sounds great! I'll have to add that to my vacation wish list!dianeschlicht said:Yes or maybe. We go to the Magic Kingdom for dinner (ADR's absolutely necessary) and it is PACKED!
The past 2 years, when you enter the park, you can't even walk up Main Street. CM's direct you "behind the scenes" at the Exposition Hall and you come out at the Galaxy Theater in Tomorrowland. The Hub is shoulder-to-shoulder and CM's with those long cone-shaped flashlights actually stand in the middle of thoroughfares creating lanes of one-way "traffic". It's nuts and exciting all at the same time! After we eat, we walk back to our room at the Contemporary making sure we arrive well before midnight. We then watch the fireworks from our balcony (Tower Room, MK view) and you can actually hear the MK crowd counting down. It is
