No, but I've watched them from Main Street at the MK, and I would think it would be much less crowded and nicer at the Poly! (I wouldn't even try the MK with kids on that night -- it was scary crowded!!!).
Yep - keep in mind that fireworks on NYE are what's known as perimeter fireworks - they're shot off from in front of the MK as well as the usual location behind - if you try to watch them from inside the MK - be prepared to get "whip-lash" from jerking your head around to see what's going on in front of the MK.
IMO - either the Poly beach or the dock at the GF are the 2 best places to watch the NYE fireworks...and to avoid the herds of guests in the MK.
The year we stayed at the Polynesian on NYE, no one was allowed to enter the grounds unless staying there or dining there. IDs were even checked on the monorail. But I agree that it is a perfect place to watch.

We have reservations at Ohanas at 8:30pm and our plan was to watch the fireworks from the beach afterwards. So, are we going to be able to do that, where do they check on the grounds?

I'm sorry but I don't know. We went to Hoop dee Doo for dinner. At that time there was a bus from the Hoop to the TTC which we took. The walkway to the Polynesian was fenced off and there were security people there so we took the monorail back to the Polynesian. There were people there checking resort ids and asking where you were headed.
We did go out to the beach at midnight and weren't approached but there was more security than normal.

I know that you are allowed to return to the California Grill to watch fireworks if you have had dinner there earlier in the evening. They tell me to just show our dinner check.
It may be different for New Year's Eve but I bet not. I think you could have a nice dinner, don't rush it, then have an after dinner drink at the bar and end up in fine time for the fireworks.
Call and ask to be sure, so you aren't kicked out and disappointed though.
I think calling is a great idea. I don't think McKelly will have a problem either since they have a dining reservation. But better safe than sorry.
The California Grill has had a very expensive but apparently wonderful event on NYE. I don't think anyone would get up there that night except folks who have tickets to that. I know that's not what you meant but just to warn anyone else reading this.
