NYE and 23 days of Disney

I HATE it when my child's education gets in the way of Disney! ;) :lmao:

Thanks to folks like David, during the school year I vacation vicariously. I tried to talk my daughter into home-schooling just so we would have more vacation days but she would have none of it. :rotfl: Silly child, what could possibly be more important than time to visit Disney.

New Year's Day was check out day. Out of the Magic Kingdom View studio that is. It is also the day we take the Magical Express to the airport to pick up the rental car for the next 18 days. The prices have fallen to an acceptable level now that the BIG one is over.

Not much to choose from on National's Executive Aisle. Strictly cars. Impala's, Camrys, lots and lots of Chargers and the odd Nissan Altima. I have forgotten nothing. That was it. Boring. Oh well, the Impala has remote start so that's what I took.

Our one bedroom Standard View was not ready until 3:50 PM, so we rode the water taxi and walked around the grounds for a while.

Our room is on the second floor with a lovely view of a Palm tree.

We settled in, got bell services to bring up our Owner's Lockers and unpacked and put everything away. Dinner was at the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs. Nothing eventful, just a good meal. I didn't get any photos, though I should have.

Early to bed, but not early to rise ends our first day of 2011.

I was reorganizing my photobucket stuff without realizing it was going to break the links. I think I have them put back properly. Let me know if you still have trouble viewing.

The pics from posts #52 and 53 are there, now the picture of Tigger from CP is gone.

p.s. love the video of the "practice fireworks"

On December 30, 2010 we went over to the beach at the Polynesian resort to watch the rehearsal of fireworks from the Magic Kingdom. I only have a little camera but did my best to video this magnificent show.

When I click on the link, I get a photo, not a video. :sad1:

Sammie, are you sure it is not a video. It takes a minute to start but you should be able to hear audio. The camera is pointed at darkness for the first minute or so.

I remembered when I read another thread about Deb and Bill's tagline, that I had my video and photos options set to off.

Thanks for sharing. That's a very expensive rehearsal.

Great trip report! Can't wait to read more. And we are leaving the day after tomorrow, so it will be great to continue reading your report while we have to go back to the drudgery of the Canadian winter!

Just subscribed. I will be living vicarious through this thread now. My dh isnt a WDW person so ownership is never going to happen but I am hoping NYE will this year. Thanks for including us Dissers!

Glad you were able to sort it out.

I feel your pain.

Just catching up with your trip report. Thanks for sharing. A good cure for the January blues!

Once again, I am always amazed how generous people are on The Dis Boards to share their pictures, videos, stories "live" while they are on vacation. Looking forward to seeing the Grand Villa! Glad you're there for awhile! :goodvibes

Day 6, January 2, 2011

Not much went on during the day. We did some grocery shopping, cleaned up some stuff from work (something I have to do once in a while) and continued to get settled into our villa. We are not ones for cooking in the unit but with this stay being 23 days, we're determined to do some HOME cooking. It turned out good.

After dinner, we took a drive over to Hollywood Studios for one of the last few evenings of the Osborne Lights.

I've captured a short video of the lights and am uploading it as I write this. As soon as it is completed, I'll post it separately.

Obviously, one does not go to Hollywood Studios and leave without at least checking to see if there is any chance of riding Toy Story. We did. Check it out that is. 100 minutes wait time. I don't have the legs or the patience so we decided to call it an evening and head back to BLT. We passed this on the way. I don't remeber seeing it before.

In this short video, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz of Phineas and Ferb, tries to steal the electricity at the Osborne Dancing Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios, before being foiled.

Love the Osborne Lights pictures and video - thanks for posting them!!!

Thank you for posting your video of the Osborne Lights. I'm pretty sure that that's the only way I'll get to see them.

Shake and Bake Chicken, then tonight, leftover SnB chicken sliced in a salad :).

Have the crowds lessened quite a bit? My application on IPad indicates it is better there.

Thanks for taking time during your vacation to keep us warm with your reports!
