We are going to be taking a trip to New York City in December. I'm looking for a good restaurant for dinner in the Rockefeller Center area that is casual, has great food and doesn't break the budget! Thanks for your help!

We had lots of fun at Mars 2112.
it's an thematic/interactive place with characters and good burgers for a reasonable price.

are you going for someplace with atmosphere? I always find the food at mars 2112 to be less than stellar and in my opinion it's over priced. the best deal around for me is Ellen's star dust diner. entertainment, large portions that you can share and only 1 block from rockefeller.

word of warning it can be crowded around meal times.

If you can stay away from the touristy places like Mars 2112 and Ellen's.
Go to www.menupages.com and look at menus for restaurants in the mid 40's and even 50's and see what appeals to you. How about Becco or Angus Mcindoe or Maria Pia or Bar Americain? Have a look, there is plenty out there!:goodvibes

Try the Burger Joint there is no sign for it. It is at the Parker Meridien Hotel. It is behind a brown curtain (I kid you not!), there should be a neon hamburger that you can see. There is no decor and everything in on paper. The menu is written on a piece of paper tacked over the register. Best burgers in NYC.

I like Connolly's (http://www.connollyspubandrestaurant.com/) on 54th Street (between 5th and 6th) for good, reasonably priced food near Rockefeller Center. It's pub food, and not fussy or themed at all, but it's always good and you can usually get in at any time without a reservation.

John's Pizza in Times Square. It was a church at one time and has beautiful stained glass.

I always recommend Virgil's BBQ. Yum. Wish I was there right now.

Mars2112 is gross. The food is gross and the waiters can't be bothered. Not fun at all anymore. And WAY overpriced.

Carmine's is good owned by the same franchise as
our favorites
Virgil's for BBQ

Another one I always suggest to people is Becco. It's on 46th street. Yummy Italian. The cheaper version of Felidia(our all time favorite in the city) owned by the same chef. :thumbsup2
Ellen's is a fun place for breakfast and reasonably priced and you get a show! Can't beat that.

Carmine's - delicious!. Here's the link: www.carminesnyc.com :thumbsup2

Ive been to Carmines, Becco and Virgils, and you can't go wrong at any of them. Surprisingly I was disappointed at Bar Americain. :confused3 Times Square also has a few other "chain" type restaurants - Bubba Gump, ESPN Zone (completely different from the one at WDW) Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood etc. etc.

But my first choice would probably be Becco. It was fabulous!

We just made reservations for Becco for next month - our yearly tradition to go into the city, see the tree and have dinner at Becco
One thing w/that restaurant is that it's like wdw in that you have to call 30 days in advance of the day you want reservations, otherwise you will not get in, especially during this time of the year

Del Friscos's steakhouse ,may be a little fancier than you wanted but they have an early bird special for $40 per person you get a salad, entree and dessert and the food and atmosphere is very good. It is right across from Radio City and you have to ask for the pre fix menu, it will not be offered to you

I'll be there Dec 13-14. Thanks for the thread...I'll be taking notes.

Wow! Thank you all for your recommendations! I see a few places that will work for us. One question.....is Becca children friendly?
