Thank you!I believe on the years that have had sailings from NYC, yes all have been in the fall — following the westbound transatlantic cruise.
They did have some in the summer of their inaugural year in NYC. We sailed on the first sailing of the Magic out of NYC and it was in May (May 25, 2012) then did a 2 night cruise to nowhere the same year in August.I believe on the years that have had sailings from NYC, yes all have been in the fall — following the westbound transatlantic cruise.
We live about 30 minutes from the Manhattan cruise port. I LOVE when DCL is in town. No flights to worry about and sailing down the Hudson River is so beautiful. We are looking at doing Bermuda this Fall but I'll wait for some discounts which they usually offer. We have done 8 nights to the Bahamas and a few 5-7 night Canada cruises and a 2 night cruise out of NYC on DCL. Our most recent out of NYC was this past October. We were looking at sailing out of NY.
They all seem to be in hurricane season.
Still on the fence about taking that chance.
Thank you. I’d prefer leaving from Port Canaveral but would be easier for the number of travelers for NYC.There was one year the Magic did a whole summer from NYC, but yes, traditionally they have been in the fall.
I really wish they would bring back the itinerary of 8 days out of NYC to Castaway Cay and Port Canaveral. They first stop in Port Canaveral and give everyone hopper tix to WDW with Fast Passes and bus service. It was a full day at the parks and buses running continuously so you could go back to the ship any time you wanted. A few days at sea and a stop a Castaway Cay. Love that itinerary.

We only had one time where we were affected by a hurricane. It was hurricane Matthew and it came barreling up the East Coast. DCL changed the itinerary from a Bahamas cruise to a Canadian cruise the day before sailing. We were able to repack for cooler weather before the cruise but many who were flying in didn't know of the change until they arrived at the port. DCL did offer everyone the choice of sailing on the new itinerary or getting a full refund or switching to a different date. They also gave everyone who did sail a partial refund and an onboard credit.
There were so few people on the sailing that after the first night they combined the two dining times to one. Dining at 7:30 was so nice!!
The threat of weather would never keep me from booking a cruise out of any port. Hurricane season is June 1st to November 30th....though it is more active in September/October.

Thanks, I forgot about those. Was it really that long ago?! I do wish there would be more NYC cruises. We also could drive there, but fall interrupts school schedules and doesn’t work for us.They did have some in the summer of their inaugural year in NYC.
So they do usually have the discounted GT rates for these cruises? We’re looking at the NYC to San Juan beginning of November but I’m waiting to see if they add the GT rates. We are looking at doing Bermuda this Fall but I'll wait for some discounts which they usually offer.

I’m hoping that too, or maybe they’ll move the Magic - surely they can’t keep four ships in Florida all summer?Yes, that was ideal for us northerners! We loved it! Bringing it back in the summer (for us school employees, and kids) would be great. I was hoping that might be what the Fantasy does once the Treasure is up and running but I think thats just wishful thinking.![]()
We're also waiting for a GT rate on that one. It is Jersey week, so might be more popular than others, but I'm hoping that the one way will make it less popular. We loved San Juan when we've visited before so we're excited to spend a couple days there at the end and take the kids there for the first time.So they do usually have the discounted GT rates for these cruises? Did a NCL cruise out of New York a couple of years ago to Bermuda. We flew in the day before, did the tourist thing and then the next morning got on the ship. They got us on the ship pretty quickly and it's an amazing sail away view. Leaving from Florida is way easier but it was a fun experience leaving from NYC and would totally do it again! We live about 30 minutes from the Manhattan cruise port. I LOVE when DCL is in town. You are probably right about that, at least until there is a change in the WDW park reservation system. With the current system, having a park pass does not guarantee that you can get into the park of your choice any given day, and park hopping is not permitted until after 2 pm. The logistics of managing park reservations for cruisers doing a one-day visit might be more than DCL wants to deal with. They used to have a 7 day out of NY in the fall that went to Nassau with a stop at Port Canaveral that included free transportation to the park and free park entrance as well as including a fastness for 3 rides. I really miss that cruise but I guess we will never see that again or something similar again.
In my opinion, Disney World takes so much planning nowadays it's hard to have a true vacation there sometimes. You are probably right about that, at least until there is a change in the WDW park reservation system. I believe many of the NYC cruises were on GT discounts in 2022. I can't remember when they came out though. So they do usually have the discounted GT rates for these cruises? We’re looking at the NYC to San Juan beginning of November but I’m waiting to see if they add the GT rates.
