NYC Marathon

Well I guess that just decided it for me---was trying to decide whether to enter the lottery---my running partner just found out she's pregnant so I couldn't decide whether to go it alone. Can't believe even the lottery sold out! I didn't even think of that!

No, my post about selling out was about Chicago! Sorry for the confusion. NYC lotto is open and won't sell out, the more people that enter the lotto, the less chance there is of making it. I believe the close date for entering is 4/23.

I'm in the lottery for NYCM too. It's always been a dream to run NYC and it would be my first full after about 10 halfs. So I'm trying to decide if I don't get in if I should go the charity route.

I wish registration for MCM didn't open until after the lottery results were out for NYCM. MCM is probably my second choice for a first marathon, but I know if I registered I would get in to NYC!

Just opened my email to find this....."We are pleased to confirm that you have been accepted for entry into the ING New York City Marathon 2012". Looks like I have something to put on my race calendar.

awesome!

Congrats Maura! And good luck to all those in the lottery.

I definitely want to run NYC sometime but decided to skip the lottery this year after Disney announced the TOT. Even though I can stay with my sister for NYC, the cross country airfare and registration still make it too pricey for this year.

Count me in with roomthreeseventeen. I've got the 9+1 guarantee, but the price is RIDICULOUS! For just slightly more, I can fly down to WDW, stay with my sister, run the WDW Full and have a vacation. (As opposed to leaving my place in Brooklyn to go into Manhattan and be transported back to Staten Island and run through places I can see every day.)

I know some people will say that as long as people are willing to pay a fee a race isn't overpriced...but I respectfully disagree. It's overpriced.

I wouldn't count on the registration going anywhere but up, up, up.

For me, it will be a "one and done" race. Yes, it's a fortune, but it should still be fun. And let's face it, if a person makes a decision to do a "destination" race, then the entry fee is really just one cost element--and ususally not the biggest one.

I haven't been to NYC in several years, so if nothing else, it will be a mini-vacation.

Not in the lottery, but wanted to add some Boston info that might be helpful.

I don't know if any running club in Boston experiences this or would open it up to out-of-towners, but they get bibs based on the number of BAA events they volunteer at-- if you really wanted to run Boston without qualifying or fundraising, you could always ask around to see if there's any running clubs with numbers they need to give away.

It's cool! :thumbsup2 Living here, it just doesn't have "destination race" feel to me.

Hopefully I'll be able to be at Mile 24 - my running club runs the fluid station and has a cheer squad section there! I love working it! It'l just depend on my part-time job.

Ohhhh, ok! Thanks for clarifying....now back to wavering........

Oh yeah, I get that. It's not specifically the registration fee that's keeping me from entering the lottery. It's just that I only want do one fall destination race this year and now it's going to be ToT instead of trying for the possibility of NYC. There's only one inaugural event so I can try for NYC another year.
