DH and myself are going into NYC to see my friend in a Broadway show. We will be taking the train in from Ct.(we will drive there from worc.) Would we get off the train at Grand Central? Can you walk to the theatre district from there? I have NO idea!!! HELP!
I know I can just ask my friend but thought I could get advice here quicker!

yes, your train comes into Grand Central -- that's 42nd Street on the East Side. Times Square is 42nd Street at Broadway -- you can either walk or take a cross town bus, or pay for a cab if you prefer. there are plenty of cabs outside Grand Central.

I think we might like to walk if time allows-how long would it take to walk versus a cab? I haven't been in the city for years so it would be nice to "see" it a bit. Actually, I was just there a few weeks ago but we went to Yankee Stadium only! If we decided to spend the night what would you recommend for a hotel?(I don't think we will but just in case!)

Thanks!
Kim

Kimerle I just noticed your post! Thanks! I'm going to check out the restaurants now!

You can also take the "S" shuttle directly from Grand Central to Times Square. It's a subway line that only shuttles between those two stops, so you can't possibly get on the wrong one. You might want to keep that in mind for the return trip if you are tired by the end of the day. If you have the time, I would walk... It's really only 3 or 4 blocks (though loooooooong avenue blocks).

Keeping with thte Broadway theme, this restauraunt is awesome. Think Rainforest Cafe with a Jekyl and Hyde theme...VFery spooky but very entertaining...fabulous food too!

I agree with Lisa F, I'd take the S Train and spend the time window-shopping through the theater district. :)

Thanks guys! I can't wait to go! We are not going until August but I thought "well it's never too early to start planning"!!! LOL You know how we "disers" are!! Any more advice is WELCOME!!!

We love Jekyl and Hyde's. Very entertaining the the food is good too. The staff is very entertaining. Plan on spending a bit of cash though like Ranforest it is pricey. But I think more entertainment there. If you get the right waiter, you will be laughing all night as long as you play along with them. As a side note stay away from the chicken, someone in our group got sick last year and we figured had to be the chicken as no one else had it.

Take the shuttle S. It's $2 pp, and it saves you time. Walking will take about 15 minutes, but if it's a hot day, don't bother.

Sounds like a fun trip! What show is your friend in? There are many hotels right in Times Square if you decide to make a "trip" of it -- the Marriott Marquis is very nice. There is also a Grand Hyatt right at Grand Central.

Are you going on the weekend? Parking at the Metro North stations can be tricky during the week. I'm not sure where in CT you are planning to board the train. I'm assuming you are planning to take Metro North and not Amtrak?

Pam- he is in Movin Out! I think it is the Metro North we will be taking from Ct..... Amtrak from Worc. costs a fortune! We are planning on going on a Sat. so parking shouldn't be too bad!-hopefully!!!

We saw Movin Out while it was in previews in Chicago. We really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of Billy Joel and my daughter loved the dancing. My boys (DH and son) liked it too, well maybe my son pretended he liked it because it was my birthday treat.;)
