I booked a room at the Sheraton New York Hotel And Towers and was looking at the reviews on the internet. I reviewer said that she was bitten 100 times by BED BUGS. Has anyone else stayed there recently? Has anyone heard of this problem there? Do other hotels in NYC have bed bugs? Do all hotels in NYC have bed bugs? I am a Starwood member and would like to stay in a Sheraton or Westin. We picked that particular hotel for its great location. Please help.

I stayed there last year for a night and did not have any problems. I got a good deal on the internet because I refuse to pay rack rate for any hotel. I understand that the lobby may have some ongoing construction but it may be finished by now. You can confirm that by giving them a call.

I'm not the type that hangs out in a room all the time. The rooms are small as most rooms are in NY. I found mine to be clean and it had good plumbing and water pressure to the shower (both a big must). If you are looking for fancy, go elsewhere but I assure you that I did not encounter 1 bedbug while I was there.

If you go in with the mindset that you are not going to like the property, chances are you will not. It is a hotel in the middle of the city that never sleeps. Don't worry too much about the accommodations and have fun in the Big Apple.

If you look long enough on the Internet you will find a "story" for every hotel. I wouldn't be too concerned.

I stayed at the Sheraton Manhattan last year. (It's directly across from the Towers...I don't like to stay in high rises.) Anyway, it was very nice. Don't worry about it. The two hotels share the same amenities also in some cases.

I have found that there are fairly inaccurate reviews on Trip advisor .....Some of the nice hotels are bashed by some reviewers...sometimes I wonder if people are paid to write bad stuff....

I agree with the other posters in that you can always find someone who has something negative to say about a certain hotel.

Here's something that I copied from www.biddingfortravel.com that was posted on 8/18/03. Hope this helps.

Just stayed here (hotel is apparently now 3*). This hotel is fine and I think a solid 3 stars. It looks like it is very busy with groups and conventions though. The sign out front says $50 M renovations. The room I had was not large but not small (for New York). Everything worked and the room was clean. I was travelling by myself so did not have the two doubles issue - but the check-in person offered a king or queen bed. I think it might have been hard to get two doubles. I did ask for late checkout on a Sunday (until 2 p.m.) and there was no problem with that. The hotel has a great location about 1/2 block from the BDE subways and about 2 blocks from the 19 and NRW. So it is very easy to get almost anywhere. Beware though - like all Sheratons - any amenties are expensive: it is $3 to leave your bags after you check out (though to be fair there was a large room full of bags with it's own attendant) - the water bottles left out in the rooms were $4.50 and the cheapest breakfast was around $12 (but there are plenty of restaurants nearby).

Thanks to all for replying. I also stayed at the Sheraton Manhattan last year and did not find bed bugs. It was a bit run down and dirty though, so we decided to try the renovated Sheraton across the street. I do WORRY about bugs though. I hope it was just a disgruntled occupant, and not a true story. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know thanks.

Last Feb. I stay at The Time Hotel which was a few blocks from Time Square. Great Location. The rooms are small but it was very clean. The rooms have very modern decor. I also stayed at the Marriott Marquis (not sure is spelled it right) located right a Time Square. Had the perfect view of Time Square from my window. The room was clean but felt it needed a little updating. Both hotels great location and NO bed bugs!

If you go to Expedia.com you can see picture of the hotels.
