NYC help- thanks

Ive never heard of Weehawken. I am assuming this is in NJ? And Jersey City is a good place? I think I checked on a Marriott brand hotel there also. I will have to check out this Weehawken

Do you know the name of the hotel there? I checked with Marriotts web site and there is only a Courtyard in Jersey City. Also, do you know the cost for the ferry and who provides the free shuttles? Thanks

I will look for the hotel name of the one in Weehawken. The ferry used to cost $4.50 each way, but it gets you across in 5 minutes and once you arrive in NYC there is a shuttle bus waiting for you that takes you throughout certain areas of NY. On the weekends I know they have one that goes through the theatre district, or you can catch the 42nd Street shuttle and walk over the 4 blocks. The ferry is called The Waterway. I will pm you their site and the hotel info as well.

I personally think it's silly to plan a trip to Manhattan and then stay in Jersey. Everyone is making it sound so simple to just drive through the tunnel or over the bridge or just hop on the ferry, but those things are all inconvenient and are time consuming. Since price is obviously a factor, like another person said, check out www.biddingfortravel.com and see what other people are paying for rooms in the city.

We done a few NYC trips (one being my son's birthday in NYC) we made accomodation reservations through our Disney Vacation Club and also used our disney VISA to get ticket discounts at BB.

There are many discounts available for broadway travel stays -- you may want to check Amtrak also they have discounts and package deals and getting accomodations in the city is worth it. (amtrak.com)
There is a timeshare in NYC called the Manhattan Club they offer accomodations for touring if you've got the wearwithal for that -- but sometimes on a shoestring budget the time's worth it. they put you up in the Sheraton adjacent to their location which is an decent hotel and give you two theater tickets. You can also look for rentals at the Manhattan CLub which is very nice; just google it depending on the days of the week you want some owners split up their time there so you can get 1-2 nights.
You may want to check www.seasonofsavings.com they have some ticket discounts and other discounts.

Hope this helps

Sounds like most people are opting for you to stay "on the property" so to speak. Think about how often you go and the memories you'd like to preserve. I know this is a budget board, but we save on other things to fully enjoy this kind of thing. Good luck.

I like the analogy of staying on the property. If you read on this forum's Disney Resorts Board, everyone makes out like you'd be nuts to stay off property. Yet millions of people stay off property and have great Disney trips. Many of those people think you'd be nuts to stay on Disney property.

Staying in Jersey for a NYC trip is a great option for many people. I've done it, I've known tons of other people who have done it, and it works out nicely. It can save money, allow people to get a bigger hotel room or have their car with them. When my brother stayed at the Sheraton Suites (the hotel in Weehawken people were taking about) the boat ride into the city was their kid's second favorite part of the trip (nothing beats dinosaurs). And for a lot of people, they are a more comfortable staying in a hotel that is like hotels they've seen back home, rather than in Manhattan.

Whichever way you go, have a great trip!

Thanks for all the replys guys. I will check out the waterfront area and see if I can get a good rate somewhere there. We will have to be staying out of the city, and it is not a problem for us. Sometimes $ is just a factor, plain and simple, and we dont mind taking a bus, train or boat into the city. If it takes a bit longer than so be it. Sometimes going to Disney you have certain circumstances that make it to where you have to stay off property too. You do what you have to do if you want to go. Our DD will only turn 16 once, and we have to stay where our budget allows or not go at all. I think she will prefer to go and stay where we can. All of the hotels I have checked in NJ say they have bus stops right outside the hotel and it takes 15 mins. or so to get into the city (or 30 mins if rush hour traffic times). We can deal with this. Maybe on a future trip we can stay in the city. I just cant find a deal on a room in the city and especially since I need to use my Marriott free night coupon. The hotels in the city are category 5 and 6 and my coupon only goes to a category 4. If I could use that coupon in the city I might could swing a second pricier night there, but I cant use the coupon in the city. Oh well, I will keep looking up things posted here by all you good folks. Thanks again.

We stayed in Secaucus a fee years ago and got the Embassy Suites on Priceline for about $50. Don't know if you can get those rates today. Since it was the weekend we decided to drive into the city and found a parking spot on the Upper West side for only $15.

A decent hotel in the city will cost you $130-$150 using Priceline plus parking of $40-$50 a day.
