NYC Disney Store

As per DisneyStore.com it is closed:

Pardon our Pixie Dust…we're closed for a few days while we build in a whole lot more magic! Join us as we re-open our magical Disney Store on Friday, May 27 at 10:00am!

I'm REALLY bummed because I have heard so much about the store (I work at my local store) and I just found out that I'm going to NYC on Saturday and now it won't be open. :(

Darn it! I'm going to NYC on Sat. too. I saw that it was closed on one other forum, but nowhere else. I was hoping it was a rumor. :sad1:

The one manager at my store is going up next week to help re-set up. I mentioned to him about how I didn't know it was going to be closed and he was like, 'yeah, it's closed. I thought you knew that'... sadly I didn't. Enjoy your day! :)

I thought they only closed off the first floor, but I guess they had to close completely for a few days.

I will be in NYC on June 3rd, I will have to try and get over there to see it.

I hope they improve it. I really liked the old store but the new one is much smaller and just has no atmosphere (IMHO). Maybe I'm not the only one who felt that way since it just opened and they are re-doing already?? :confused3

I'll be there next weekend. I was really looking forward to doing some shopping. I have $200.00 in those bonus giftcards from Sam's Club.
Nancy :sad2:

Does anyone know if the NYC Disney Store sells the Disney Dooney & Bourke bags? I'll be in NYC 5/29 - 6/1, and was hoping to snag one if they have the 40th anniversary pattern.

I agree. I was in NYC at Christmastime. We went into this Disney store. I was not at all impressed. Looking forward to seeing the improvements.

Even though I couldn't go inside yesterday, I did peek in where they were doing some construction. It appears that they added a revolving door and placed windows where another door was located. All of the merchandise was off of the stage and everything was covered with tarps. I don't believe they were doing too much to the floor itself though...though it was hard to peek in with the guard that was stationed there staring at me. LOL!

As far as the new store designs, it's not going to be like the old 55th and 5th World of Disney Store. It is going to be much smaller, Disney knew that going in. It was like it was before the WOD moved into NY. I remember a Disney Store located by where Mary Poppin's is now on Broadway. It was the old style store, not like the World of Disney.

I understand it's hard not to compare the new store to the WOD but they are completely different. It's not going to be three stories like the old store, but it still does have something to offer. :)

It is less the smaller size and more the "colder" feeling of the store that I dislike. Even the old store on 42nd and every Disney Store I've been in "feel" better to me. I'll have to check it out when they re-open and soak it in...;)

They carry a few of the Harvey's seatbelt bags no D&B

I was there early last week the whole bottom was closed did not knwo they were closing the whole thing for a while... I work a few blocks away only been there 3 times as it is nothing that great.. I liked the WOD store...

I was very sad when I learned that they were closing the WOD on 5th Avenue. On my only previous trip to NYC, my husband & I visited the store. I was magical! I felt like I'd gotten a dose of my beloved WDW in NYC! I knew that the new store in TS would be smaller and more like a "regular" Disney Store. I hoped that it would still have some of the extras, like NY specific merchandise, that made its NYC location unique. I knew the chance of them having the D&B bags was slim, but I thought it was worth checking. :) If it's reopened while I'm there next week, I'll probably still check it out. It's a shame that it's only a shadow of its former self, though.

I totally agree. There is not much that is special or different about it, being the "flagship" store in Times Square. It does have some NYC specific merchandise, but not that much...I happened to be there about a week after it opened, and I was EXTREMELY disappointed.

The WOD store never carried much NYC exclusive merchandise. Less than a quarter of the store was NYC exclusive. Most of it was the same merchandise that was sold at the parks.

I loved the World of Disney Store don't get me wrong, but I'm equally as excited to see this one. :)

It’s closed on Saturday’s and Sunday’s I believe. I have been there twice. It has everything about Disney. It’s pretty big. :)
