I'm not familiar with this itinerary. If anyone has done this itinerary on another cruise line, what was the scenery like? I assume you are close to land as you sail towards Quebec City?

We have done this itinerary the other way -- driving one-way to Quebec and taking the cruise back to NYC. It was a 10-night sailing in October on Holland America and is now one of our favorites! The ports are so wonderful and the scenary spectacular. We would do it again for sure.

The sailing we did stayed overnight in Quebec and the view of the Fort lit up at night was awesome.

Yes, you're close to land most of the time. I wish the DCL cruises were in mid-October so the leaves would have more time to change color. Bar Harbor, Maine was our favorite port, and I'm bummed DCL doesn't go there.

After our cruise disembarked in Quebec City we stayed at the historic Chateau Frontenac with a view of the harbor, and it was wonderful.

I'll second Cruiser21: if you have questions regarding this itinerary, you can come on our thread!

Yes, you will be very close from land for the most part of the itinerary from the moment you leave Baie-Comeau. :)

Depending on when you are going, you should find a least a little colors in the leaves. Usually, the closest you are from the end of September, the better.

Quebec is further north so the leaves turn there a little earlier than the other ports on the cruise. When we did a fall foliage cruise a few years ago the leaves in Quebec were past their peak but Boston hadn't even started yet. Each year is a bit different. The 2nd time we did a fall foliage cruise hardly any of the leaves had turned, even in Quebec in early October. I would recommend starting in Quebec and cruising south, so at least one port will have leaves at their peak.

Baie-Comeau and Saguenay are north-east of Quebec City (and tend to be colder than Quebec City)... So if Quebec City doesn't have much colors, Saguenay and Baie-Comeau will.

I'll most likely be able to tell you more about what to expect regarding foliage in September depending on the kind of summer we have. :) So far we are having a very crappy/extremely cold winter... Lord knows what kind of summer we'll get. :/

Re: fall colors -- we did a Carnival cruise last Fall to New England/Canada (St. John, Halifax, Portland and Boston) and everyone was talking about how disappointed they were that there we no fall colors anywhere. We were told it was because the temps had been too warm for too long a period.

I live in Nova Scotia and the leaves this past fall were beautiful, but late. They started changing late October and into November.

Yes, we can predict it approximately but each year is different. That's why I say I will be able to give you a better idea by the end of the summer.

We are booked for this cruise as well, for those who have experience with this itenerary do you have any advice on what side of the boat would be best to get land views?

Thanks!!

Which way are you going? Departing from NYC or from Quebec?

P.s.: Come on our thread. We can answer all your questions.

NY to Quebec :)

If it was me, I would definitely choose starboard from NYC to Quebec, if they sail along the coast of Baie Comeau you should get a nice view on starboard BUT when you sail in the Saguenay Fjord, you should have nice views on both sides because the "passage" is not very wide. :)

Thank you! We are currently starboard so we'll definitely stay put. :)
