We did this cruise last fall. It was my least favorite to date. We did not travel with kids. However, I though (with the exception of Bar Harbour) that the ports were boring. We cruise for the ports though, I'd think that the onboard festivities would be just as enjoyable as any other DCL cruise.

Does the family live in the New England area? I think the draw of that cruise is more the timing with experiencing fall in the northeast and seeing the foliage. Unless the family has a particular interest in that area of Maine/New Brunswick, my guess is tween boys who live in NE aren't going to be terribly impressed by the ports or the scenery. They may simply enjoy the onboard activities, though.
